The entertainment pie is much bigger than the 90's and 2000's, with much smaller pieces. Consumers have RU-vid, Twitch, Poker, Video Games, Anime, Manga, TikTok not to mention all the re-runs of shows that were good, instead of the modern political driven narratives. No one is missing them, trust and believe.
@@bencox3641 My 65+ year old grandma watches foreign movies on streaming services all the time. And no, internet as we know it has been around since the mid-late 90's. There's quite a few old people that knows their way around web-browsers if they use them on a daily basis. You pretend as if the internet just came out just last year.
From what I have been watching I assumed the writer's strike had be ongoing for quite a few years already. Are they suggesting the recycled stuff is going to get worse? I feel like they're given 10 ideas and a storyboard for everything they do and have to find a way to make it work.
The strikes are on because the pay is crap and they only pay writers for early production or pre-production, then they aren't employed during the actual recording of the show and/or the post-production, so any changes that need to be made or lines added will basically be improvised, thus you see the quality drop.
Maybe people would care if we still had cable tv and movie rental stores, but we don't. I haven't been without entertainment yet and as long as RU-vid has creators and streaming services exist then I probably won't notice the strike for a long time.

The point all these people seem to be missing is, consumers don't really care. We will just replace you with something else, we have options in the modern world. The reason you ain't getting paid like you think you should is, you ain't worth it. That is how the free market works.
The point is that if "all these people" keep losing to the market over decades, you get a broken economy. I suppose there is a tiny difference began who's a worker and who's a consumer, but to talk like they're two different economic entities is dishonest. If the workers don't get paid, the store don't get paid, unless there's consumer debt. Let's support these people and those who do the same because for a strong economy those who add value need value back in exchange.

Having the reality settle in that normal people couldn't care less about the strike and are even happy about it has to have the writers and actors a bit terrified at this point. The whole ordeal is a massive miscalculation.

If you're favorite contents aren't movies/shows related then sure. If not they will be effected as well just not yet. For example, channels that create contents based on new shows or movies like Film Theory will either use older or independent contents or just stop churning out videos altogether
As always, Hollywood is trying to LOOK more "essential" than it ever actually was. With the advent of Digital Storage and streaming, Hollywood became obsolete. Just look at all the recent financial flops. Hollywood is unable to stop pushing "The Message" over producing quality entertainment. There are over 80 YEARS of outstanding movie/tv vids out there that EVERYONE has access to. More material than a person could watch 24/7 for 30 years. Hollywood ISN'T needed any more. And with their diminished value, the Public couldn't care less about the strike. "Hmmm, shall I PAY to watch something current that MAY be worth something, or shall I watch a FREE Oscar Winning vid from years past that has guaranteed quality and earned terrific accolades?" EASY choice...BUH-BYE Hollywood!

Cinemas can and should show classic films. I'd be much more likely to pay at the box office to see the original Ghostbusters than whatever reboot version Hollywood is wringing out of it now.

I think if AI took over many of these writer's jobs, we might get better content. I think even with AI there would be a need for a human writer to tweak it into a better product.
The AI is trained off the last 20 years of these writer's own work. You wouldn't get better content. It be worse and the writer would be hired to fix it but paid less, and given less ability to alter the AI script

I hope the actors and writers get what they need. We already pay a lot for the streaming services each month. That money should go where it needs to go. These CEOs really need to get it together. I’m talking in every avenue not just television. Healthcare is the same situation. Cutting staff while the profits go up and the workers never see that money.

Just as i thought while watching vid and before i read the numerous comments---MOST CONSUMERS DO NOT CARE. Most shows i watch on netflix are NOT from Hollywood anyways, been watching lot of Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Australia, German and even couple Russian TV series and movies. ALONG with lots of older 60-70's European movies. ALONG with you tube creators. There is SO much to watch in the world that Hollywood TV will not matter much to billions of people.
The strike is idiotic. Higher wages for these workers just means the end consumer, moviegoers, will have to pay more for their tickets and home videos to make up for the difference. Most of these workers on strikes are moviegoers themselves, do they not realise that asking for more pay will just raise the prices for EVERYONE? People need to study basic economics and supply and demand. If your job is paying you crap all just quit and go do a job that pays more. Your salary is determined by market rates and if you're not happy with market rates go where the rates are better. Once you make enough money then you can come back to the job you're passionate about and do it for free if need be. Unions and Strikes are never a good solution.
I think the money we already pay is enough to pay the actors but the money is not being distributed properly from the higher ups . I don’t think they are wrong to strike but I hope the CEO don’t use this as an excuse to raise prices. Some of the actors are really broke like everyone else. Only 10-20 % are making millions. The others are living in apartments they were before they were famous and can’t afford health insurance.

These companies are not "evil", higher wages WILL lead to higher prices otherwise the company cannot remain solvent and go out of business, then everyone in the company will be out of a job. If they are as popular as Game of Thrones the money should reflect. I believe what they are saying. I don’t watch none of those shows but people in the real world know when you are using them. Netflix cancel shows all the time that are popular with no rhythm or reason. Then they support random new shows not as many people are watching.

I highly doubt it, those two shows are not comparable since there is more to a show then simply it's streaming popularity at any point in time. Simply put, if Netflix makes the wrong financial decision then they will be punished for it by the markets, eventually. The free market system is the fairest system we have for determining who gets to be paid how much.

The studio is saving money because the discarded all the contracted crew member on all the productions that are being developed. They pretty much made us all redundant once it was confirmed the actors were going to join in on the strike. One week pay in severance pay only. Tragic and despicable by the CEO's. All the crew should get also get an increase in earnings, to compensate for manny months off work, because of these greedy CEO's...
