Container Home Fail? Did I Need So Many Foundation Columns?

Some people have asked me if I really needed 16 columns for the foundation of my container home. Ultimately, I don't regret using 16, but I think I probably could've gotten away with 12 easily.

Better to have more columns than not enough. Though I may choose to paint them to match the building. Wondering how you're going to make it look good under there?

Actually this is far better in my opinion... because if there was an earthquake or something and you only had 4 points holding it the middle would get weak and compromise the structural integrity..... so I think you did a great job honestly!!!

Yes, you needed 16 columns. Structurally. You added weight, and you removed base support.

I am about to send your information to a client who asked to find him a mobile home to put on his plot of land. He is very capable at rehabbing and a container home would have significantly more value that would increase over time rather than diminish with a mobile home. I love what you have done and hope he is as inspired as I am.

I reckon 20 - every 2.4 metres / 8 feet - length and width. No one ever blubbed about too much stability.

So for some extra space throw another container on top of one of the 3 existing containers. Better than an attic.

Pretty minor mistake if at all. You'd most likely get the extra expense and then some back at resale due to perception of a high-quality, conscientious build, and would avoid any headaches or scrutiny if you ever wanted to add a 2nd or 3rd floor.

Correct on the second floor part. I'm thinking of adding a second floor in maybe 2025 so hopefully the structural engineer approves the current foundation

Better safe than sorry...,kind of doubles as a doggy & kitty hangout should they ever get caught out in the rain and no fear of them getting squished, that sucker looks like it would hold up very well, even in Cali👍🏽

I was wondering if I would to do this is it safe if I would to make it wide like yours but I would want to make it like an upstairs so stack another container on top of ANOTHER.
