@@NikoKavallar Yeah, I can see that! She's by far my favorite in the genre. The location text and the background music are great, as well as the in-helmet mic vs. voiceover. I also really like the map recap with the elevation scale. I can really see a big jump forward in your editing (as compared to the first episode of the WY BDR series, for example).

@OneManTrail My issue was with the USB C cable that actually charges through the tablet holder and well as the pins. The pins are useless, I had to get two replacement tablets because it melted. The actual USB C plug also failed (future episode) and I had to just use a regular cable to keep it charged

@NikoKavallar
@NikoKavallar 3 месяца назад
I actually did mostly Meerkat ADV routes and not Kevins but they do overlap in a few places. There are a few sections where I had to go on Kevins. I chose Meerkat routes because I wanted a challenge and as much Offroad as possible.

Hey Niko, just found your channel. Great footage. I’m doing a 4,000 mile ride with an old buddy, Simon, in May and June heading out from south of Boston. I’m from the UK and have been lucky enough to have Simon doing the tech bits like where we’re going and staying. 22 days in all. Like you were recording it for exactly the reasons you are. I’m 65 and want to be able to recall my trip and bore my friends and family. A question if I may (and apologies if you covered it before) what mods have you done to your bike? I have a 2023 701 Enduro which has the Euro5 lean running issues. Yours sounds sweet. My trip in May will be aboard a 2019 690 Enduro with a ton of mods. Many thanks, Ian

That really sucks about your bag damage! I just bought a Reckless 80 set and I'm not sure if they redesigned it with the Version 4, but it seems to stick out a lot farther than I think it should. The base is very rigid and now I'm wondering if that's a redesign to keep something from happening like what happened with you. One request.....can you please add the Goal Zero power bank model number to your description? Might need to get one of those myself....especially if it works well during this trip. Do you secure that with some velcro I assume? But wait....there's more: 1. Did you carry any type of inReach/SpotX type devices with you? 2. What about bear spray? If so, did you carry it within arms reach, or just in your bags? 3. Looking back....what are some lessons learned with the filming aspect of the trip?
@NikoKavallar
@NikoKavallar 3 месяца назад
I actually contacted Mosko about it and V4 is indeed more rigid as to prevent these issues. I’m not sure yet if I will change to V4 or just go with a new Backcountry kit yet. As for your questions: - I use a Garmin inReach Mini2, I’ve had to use it in the past to call for help for someone I found stranded in the middle of nowhere Utah so it doesn’t leave my side - I did have bear spray within reach plus a 10mm for backcountry camping in the Grizzly areas - The GoalZero PowerBanks are Venture 35’s which fit in my Mosko chest rig, it only takes 1 to run my helmet GoPro all day while the other one charges on the bike Lessons learned from filming: - Film when you don’t want to, when things go wrong, those are the times you wish you had filmed more - Run the Helmet GoPro and the selfie GoPro at the same time, this will prevent painfully stitching together the clips to overlay - Film a lot; at the half way point I had 4TB worth of footage, it’s easy enough to go through on FCPX and if you don’t keep filming you will miss stuff - Do a debrief, I skipped that a few times and than did a review for previous days after a few days - Drone, drone, drone … if you can get your hands on a Skydio 2+ run it constantly haha - Get massive SD cards, I used 1TB SD cards in each camera - Backup your data, I used 2x 4TB Samsung T7 Shield SSD’s and my tablet to copy the files each day, especially drone files in case it get’s lost while flying - Don’t bother with filters, it’s a pain - Set a fixed WB on drone, makes post processing much easier - Don’t bother with GoPros internal batteries, I plug them into the rally tower or external battery

@NikoKavallar
@NikoKavallar 3 месяца назад
@thecorporategypsy I ended up not really using the 360 cam as I just couldn’t get it balanced well so it wouldn’t swing around Offroad. I only used the helmet and tower GoPro. For the GoPro facing me I was using the GoPro pass-through door and just kept it plug in with a GoPro cable to a USB slot on my tower.
@thecorporategypsy
@thecorporategypsy 3 месяца назад
@@NikoKavallar thats helpful thanks. I put my 360 on top of my helmet, which I really dislike, but it gives me the clear 360 view that I am looking for. I have had it in front on a selfie stick and off the left rear view mirror arm but a view of me or the windshield comes into view and effectively the right side is lost. I really like the idea of the rear facing camera on power as makes it simple ie only need one battery. Many thanks and love your films
@NikoKavallar
@NikoKavallar 3 месяца назад

How do you charge your drone batteries and for the GoalZero powerbank, which one and where is it? This is brilliant and carrying and changing batteries sucks
@NikoKavallar
@NikoKavallar 3 месяца назад
For the Skydio 2 I have a total of 6 Batteries, 2 of them stay in the drone case and the other 4 along with the Skydio dual charger are all in my Mosko Gnome Tank Bag - the dual charger needs at least 100w to charge two batteries at once so the charging cable is plugged into a 12v 120 watt Dual USB C outlet on my tower (you can find those on Amazon, I use the “HOKAAER Quick Charge 4.0 Dual PD 12v 120w Marine outlet” The GoalZero Venture 35 power bank is in my Mosko chest rig in the pocket next to my Garmin inReach Mini 2. I mounted power banks using clamps on my helmet before but didn’t do it for the one I was wearing. Overall I have several USB C outlets in my rally tower so keep everything charged while riding. This is also the reason you see the volt meter on my handlebar so I can see if it would have any impact on the battery (it did not)
