My experience with the GP 5000's has been nothing but stellar. I have 3 bikes currently and have the 4000 SII's in 28mm on one and the 5000 in 32mm on another, my two main bikes. The 32mm 5000's are faster than the 28mm 4000 SII's easily. You can actually feel it as well as measure it, whether it be average speeds, heart rate or power meters. I've switched rims on my bikes and the tires just to remove any discrepancies their could be. Wear and protection is superior with the 5000's as I have not had a single puncture with the 5000's, though they are 32's with thicker tread and supposedly superior protection, though Bicycle Rolling Resistance says otherwise. As far as grip I haven't had one slip and the tires are confidence inspiring. You will find yourself just being very comfortable with forgetting to brake on high-speed turns, mainly because.... You don't have to. The grip is that good. Deflection is good, with my only complaint being they sometimes feel Too plush as they lack some feel at times, but again, I'm riding the 32mm width versions. They actually measure to 30mm out the box and even after over 4000km of stretch. You'll find that the 32mm width will fit some frames they shouldn't because of this. Rolling resistance is really really low. This is easily the very fastest non tubeless tire and even with tubes it's amongst the fastest period. I'm talking top 10 fastest. You will not go wrong riding on these. I do have the 28mm 5000 on my third bike. As far as speed they don't feel quicker, but they do feel less plush. So if you have problems with your back, wrists or arms, I highly recommend the 32mm as they are quite fast and you'll find you lose nothing and gain a lot of comfort... Especially when it comes to endurance. If your frame will accept the 32mm version, get a pair. Wheel width is something to watch as well to keep the profile high aero, but if you have wide wheels or it's not that big a concern, again, get the 32mm. That's all I got, peace! -James

They are probably the same size, right ? I currently have some GP4000 in 28, and they measure about 31mm. GP5000 in 28 measure 28mm in the same rims, not the same comfort level, even though they seem to be as fast/faster. I am wondering if 32mm GP5K would be too wide there... Wish there was a 30mm version !

I'm riding the 5000 clinchers 23mm for a few thousand kilometres now. And I'm happy with them. No punctures, awesome grip even during cold months, nice and comfortable feeling and a very good rolling resistance. Highly recommend these tyres.

Switched to GP 5000 25c clinchers from Rubino Pro 2.0 to shave 25 g and also over 5K worth of riding zero issues whatsoever. Excellent product.

Got 5000km on the rear of 28mm GP5000 TL. The tyre started to delam about the same time as the TWI wore away. Good Job Conti. During the final 500km I did start to get sprayed with sealant more often, but it always sorted itself out, and I never needed to install an inner tube.

That's what I missed about Shane's comment - whether the delamination occurred while the TWI holes were still present or not. Biggest knock on GP5000TL is that they have to be the hardest tyres to mount on a rim without using tyre levers

I`ve had GP4000 clincher on my road bike for about 3 years now. I rode 9,000-10,000 kilometers and the tyres are still rolling!!! I had a puncture maybe 2-3 times over the course of those 3 years. Really solid tyres. I will get the GP5000 for this season! My current GP4000 still have some life in them, but the rubber has many cuts and also looks like an aged rubber after 3 years.

I put some 28mm clinchers on in August and put about 300kms on them before the snow. So far they have been awesome. They are noticeably faster than my gator skins.

I've been running the same set up on my summer bike; GP5000 standard clinchers with latex inner tubes mounted to Boyd Altamont alloy rims (19mm internal) and they've been very good to date. Seem to have a good balance of performance, feel and robustness. Happy with the ole Conti's thus far!

@@hansanders4983 there seems to be enough empirical evidence out there that is shared amongst the experts to indicate that yes - it's measurable and true. 5-10 watts savings per wheel depending on your system weight or something... I think I can 'feel it' being better (but, I could be delusional). I only run the latex on my summer bike, butyl for the winter roads and tubeless for gravel. The latex + GP5000 clinchers just seem really good to me. Definitely faster than butyl (but again I only run butyl on the winter tires).

Thanks for the review! I’m loving these GP5000 tires too. I had been riding the S-Works turbo and tried the RapidAir 2Bliss prior. I had the same issues with the RapidAir’s puncturing just 35 miles into use. I had no issues or punctures with the GP5000TL x 28mm with Stans Race, including some gravel road rides. My experience with road tubeless is, if you get a puncture, neither the RapidAir nor Stans Race will seal until the tire reaches less than 80 psi, which makes a 26 mm wide tire questionable. This is why I’m going with the GP5000 with Silca latex tubes for race day, because the widest tire my Shiv disc can accept is a 26 mm tire, and I don’t want to risk riding a 26 mm at less than 80 psi. But great tire all around!

I ran GP5000 clinchers this season in the US, 25 mm, Michelin latex tubes, 90 psi on Shimano RS81 wheels (luv these) front and back. I weigh 80 kg, ride on decent roads in the DC area mostly dry conditions. Had no flats in 2020 in a little under 3000 miles, tires show some wear but have some more miles in them, and the tires have been a pleasure to ride. They followed several seasons on 4000II’s, really don’t feel much performance diff, but I do see less squaring off on the crown with the 5000s like you said. Like the sound of the tire, and feels sticky in corners/descents like the 4000IIs. Happy customer!

I've put 1000km on my tubeless GP5000 so far... LOVE IT. Easy setup and no need of an air compressor, though the tyre is very narrow and it was neccesary to use tyre levers. Riding? Very smooth feeling, no punctures, superb cornering and amazing breaking. Last week i forgot to check my route and ended up riding in a dirt road, the tires just got a few scratches with no bigger damages... astonishing performance,

Just fit my second set of GP5000 Tubeless 28mm. on Roval CLX 55 and they fit nicely. The first lasted 2 years and something like 8-10000km. I have had zero problem and no punctures that I have noticed.

We have many bikes in the house all riding Conti's. I just took a pair of 4000's off my bike after about 7,500km and there is likely a bit of life left in them. Replacing them with 5000's. Everyone else runs the GP5000's. All of us are happy with them. Sweet ride, we don't get many flats, they seem to last a long time. We all run about 75-85 psi. Some comments mention hard to get on/off the rim. I think that's more likely the rim. We have many wheels where they mount without any issues, but our son's HED Belgium+ rims are a real challenge.

Been using the GP5000 23 clinchers on my TCR advanced SL ( Mavic Cosmic 40 mm) for a few years now. Best wear I've ever had from a tire, grippy, no cuts. Can't find anything I don't like about them

I absolutely love my GP 5000 tubeless on my Canyon. Running 32mm on a set of Light Bicycle carbon rims with 32mm ext width and 45mm depth. Feels so fast and the grip is phenomenal. Ride is also very plush on the crappy roads of Los Angeles.

I ride with GP5000 x25 clinchers. Like the level of grip they provide and rolling resistance. I ride them all year and really pleased with them, suffered one puncture in 3500 miles and still going. My summer bike has GP4000 soon to be replaced with a set of these.

BEST. TIRE. EVER! Came from michellins, then gatorskins, and vittoria corsa. Wow, when i switched to the GP 5000, it was just absolutely amazing! No kidding, it felt i was riding an ebike sometimes. The engineers over at conti are wizards!

I have the predecessor of this tire, the GP4000S-II. I love it very much, and I hear the GP5000 rides even better. I have the 28mm version. I run low pressures, about 66 psi (4.48 bar) in the front and 70 psi (4.82 bar) in the rear. I love the way my tires ride, and I do not care about puncture protection. I don't mind fixing an occasional puncture if that's the price to pay for a good quality ride. If you think you'll get 6,000 or 7,000 km out of your tires, you can't complain about that for the nice ride they offer. I didn't note when I installed my tires, so I don't know how far I've gone on them. Thanks for the review.

Been riding the GP 5000 TL and they've been amazing. I got a screw that stuck onto the front tire(hadnt even hit 500 miles yet). I pulled the screw out, let the sealant do its magic and made it back to my car. Replaced the tire and so far sitting at 4k miles on them. No issues at all.

GP5000 tubeless on my road bike and triathlon bike for 2 years with no flats or punctures on pretty rough roads. They seem fast and they last so I love them!

My first rear Conti GP5000 clincher wore through the tread after 5009km. That was a 28mm wide GP5000 initially run with a butyl tube (about 1600km) but then switched to a latex tube. Pressure was between 75 and 85 psi (depending on the weather and how lazy I am) for my 185 pound corpus. Over those miles I had zero punctures and no cuts. On the front my 25mm GP5000 is still going strong. Interestingly I had initially been running a 28mm on the front, but after about 100-ish miles, the front tire "grew" a bit and started rubbing the underside of my rim brakes. Both tires were/are on DT Swiss R460 rims which have a 19mm internal width. I had considered just doing the tubeless things when I got these wheels, but given how the GP5000 clinchers perform, I really can't see the benefit of going tubeless right now. As it stands, the tires, especially with the latex tubes, roll oh so nicely. I have to admit that I was very skeptical about trying Conti's again. I had no shortage of flats and sidewall cuts with GP4000 clinchers. The Sprinter Gatorskin tubulars I tried years ago were also not very resistant to punctures. And I hated the Conti thread shedding phenomena. Aside from some very short lived thread shedding, the GP5000s have been perfect and have become my favorite tire of all time, eclipsing my previous favorite, the Michelin Pro4 Endurance. @GPLama, can you and DC Rainmaker wield your enormous industry influence and convince SRAM to not only start selling PowerTap hubs again but to also release the PowerTap G4 disc hub that was shown a couple of years ago at Eurobike?

I ran Continental Gator Skins on my last road bike. 15,000 miles and NO ISSUES at all. Finally switched out to another brand and have regretted it ever since. Going back to Continental; never should have left.

I swapped to the 5000's several months ago, I have just over 6200kms on them and still love them. Compared to the 4000's, these are significantly better. Better grip, more corner stability and far less punctures.....well worth the spend.

I've ridden both the clincher and the tubeless version and they both have been great. I current ride the 5000TL and have had great luck. No punctures in almost 4000 miles.

Got these in tubeless. Im the only one in my group running tubeless. Big glass cut puncture near the end of the tyres life and the group was amazed I fixed it with a bacon strip in less time than it would take them just to get the tyre off the rim. No mess. No fuss. Sealed up perfect with co2 can and off we went. Converted a few of them to tubeless that day. 😄

I think your experience is more a testament to the state of the roads in your area. No tire(5000 included) has lasted more than 1k miles for me in New Jersey without getting a fatal cut through the tread.

I totally agree on that, I bought them and got 3 punctures during the festive 500 icluding a big cut, almost beyond repair, in the rear tire.

Stellar experience with GP4000's over the years. GP5000 seem to be an improvement over and above an already excellent tire. BTW, I also used an older GP4000 tire on my wheel-on trainer for several years of regular use. (i.e. several '000s km/yr) Superb. Smooth rolling. Quiet. Resist slipping. Long lasting.

I picked these up when they had the "Special Edition Tour DE France 2020" .. my only complaint is how hard they are to mount. And wish they came in 28mm with gum walls.

With the performance delta between cheap and high end tires, and the relatively small cost difference, I can't be bothered to skimp on cheapo tires. I've been on 4000iis and 5000s for years, and ran Michelin Pro3Races before that. The confidence in cornering between good rubber and cheap rubber is 100% worth it.

Good review - mine sadly didn't last quite as long but I'm constantly picking glass out of any tyre that I use in Melbourne. Great grip and handling however.

I WAS running GP5000TL on my hunt wheels. Performance wise they were good, but they were so aggravatingly difficult to get on the rims I decided to change back to clinchers. I had a few punctures that I couldn’t repair in tubeless configuration (Nails will do that) and because I ride solo quite a bit couldn’t take the chance of getting stuck in the middle of nowhere not being able to repair a puncture, and because they were so tight on the rim I couldn’t even fit a tube. I’m now running Vitoria Corsa Control with latex tubes on Fulcrum Racing Zero Carbon rims and loving that combo.

I use the 28mm GP 5000 tubeless on the road wheels I use on my Giant Revolt - they’ve been wonderful, no issues at all.

Great content. I normally rotate my tire, Front to Rear. Judging by the wear indicators on the tires, you could likely extend the lives of these tires another 1000 km? Not sure if that has been your experience or do you just replace the tire that is worn the most?

I run 28mm conti 5000's at 65 psi with latex inners, but on Belgian roads, I only get 4000k's out of them. While 4000's easily lasted me 8000 k's with wear marker still left intact

Ran GP 5000 28mm in Curve G4's after GP4000 (II) and had serious problems with flats including plant thorns, not bogan dust. Gave them to my partner on her bike and not a single flat. I'm starting to think I was the problem. Given the 4k's weren't available, I ran 25mm 5k's on my Tarmac with Fulcrum Zero's and had no flats for thousands of km's. At the end of the day, I rank them highly. In terms of long distance they are up there with the Specialized Roubaix and have better rolling. Top tyre/tire!

I’ve been running the GP5000’s (tubeless) on my TCR disc, and I love them. They have tons of grip and the combination of the tires and frame make for a very confidence inspiring ride, which I appreciate a lot as a taller and heavier rider (just about 2m tall, and 118kg). I believe I have about 1500 miles (2500k-ish, I think) on them, and they’ve held up great for me; no issues other than a few small cuts due to riding in the San Francisco Bay Area where it’s pretty much unavoidable. Happy to be moving to the Pacific Northwest at the end of this week!

I'm running the same bike, same (clincher) tyres, original Giant SL1 wheels. I've only just swapped out an old GP4000S front tyre after 18000kms. Wear indicators were still good on the old tyre, but the rubber had too many cuts. Previous rear GP5000 did 2700kms, current has done 8500kms with wear indicators starting to disappear, but no delamination (mainly Beach Rd surface, less country roads). PS. I swap in Panaracer Gravel King SK 26mm clinchers and 'hey presto' - it's a lightweight gravel bike!!

In mine opinion it depends on what quality roads you're riding and etc... But 5k km's is the line when I will inspect the tyres closely and start thinking about changing to new ones

Have really been spoiled by these things. Started running the 5000s pretty soon after they cam out and loved them from the start. Got a couple different bikes over the past year and decided to give some other brands a shot (specifically Bontrager and Mavic). Was back to the GP5000s within weeks each time. I know everyone's experience varies here, but these things just don't puncture for me! So many situations (terrible roads, tons of debris, long stretches of unexpected gravel, etc.) where I thought they'd definitely meet their match but they never failed. A tire this fast/crisp has no business being this tough.

Excellent results with GP5000 TL 28s. 4500 KM so far and still plenty life. One cut that had to be repaired from the inside. These are my go to tires.

I used to find the reinforcing tape on the bead section of the GP4000s used to fray and I'd get individual threads being pulled of. Some would get stuck in the wheel and further unpick the tape. The thread were STRONG, like nylon or some kond of aramid fibre so not easy to break, and if you tried to pull them off you just unwound more of it, like pulling at a ball of string. It rendered the tyre useless way before the amount of wear did. Do the 5000s use similar tape at the bead area?

Few years ago I switched to Conti Gatorskin. I know they are slow, but I prefer to have peace of mind. Twice in the past, I had to ride home on flat tire, because I had only one spare in my saddle bag.

Shane, running 25mm in a tight frame. Rear had to be removed because it was rubbing in the frame. Had 2mm clearance new.

I have ridden GP4000s and GP5000 TLs for a number of years. I think the 5000 is a great tyre. And in TL I have not had the issues that a lot of tubeless riders have. I have found that once you get the first puncture on any Continental they tyre has reached its use by date. (unless it was a bolt or screw etc)

My personal favorite are the gator skin hard shells but they are nearly impossible to find in Thailand, so the GP5000s are a great alternative.

I have a giant defy, used the stock giant tl tyres, in the first 4 months I had one flat that didn't seal and plenty of others that did seal but not before the bike or me were covered in sealant. Swapped to the GP5000 TL not one incident in 6 months.

@matt dillon hey mate I have this one www.cyclist.co.uk/giant/defy-advanced/2170/giant-defy-advanced-pro-1-review . It doesn't say hookless on the wheelset unlike the 2021 specs that do say that. I have had no issues with the contis, did the rapha 500 recently, so plenty of riding done, also some light gravel. Also not one hole unlike the stock tyres that were frustrating for me. Running them at 70psi as I'm heavy too. Hope that helps, it's an awesome bike!

Had my gp5000 clincher for 6500km 2020, worked like a charm - both fast and grippy with a supple feel - no punctures 🤞(using Hunt Aero Wide 50 rims) Rear tire is almost done, not much left according to the dots and to be honest, it is more square than round now. Happy overall, gonna try out the pirelli p zero velos now for 2021 🚴

I ran a set of 28mm TL GP5000's last season with zero issues, zero flats. I'll get another set, possibly even try the 32mm.

Running 25s on Specialized Roubaix. At 3000K front shows some road nicks from the lousy margins in my area. I appreciate the tire guide, I've had these inflated to 90 psi for my 100 kg weight. Looks like I could drop that some and save wear and tear on the backside. Grip is good, certainly better than Gatorskins.

I got 4400 km on my first GP5000 on the rear. .. But then, I’m well over 220 lbs. I’ve found the BIGGEST factor determining tire life is the terrain. Climbing will certainly reduce the tread mileage. . . Particularly on those UK roads where there is a lot of chipseal surface. An aside. . . I bought a pair of 5000 TLs, not knowing what the TL stood for. Brutal installation when used with tubes. . . I make sure I travel with my BEST Michelin tire levers😉

I love how my GP5000 clinchers perform, but I feel like my rear wears super fast. I rotated front to back and got a new front. I've just officially replaced the one I rotated too. Maybe it's that I'm a heavier rider from the time I got them to now (230lbs -> 205lbs), and maybe it's that I ride in Los Angeles where smooth clean roads are hard to come by, but I'm on my second pair after a year averaging 70-100 miles a week. I can't help but feel that I should have gotten a little more out of them. It sounds like a year+ is a common experience though.

My 28mm started puncturing after a couple of thousands of km. The tires have slashes and cuts. Two days ago punctured twice on a 46k ride. Love the tires but have installed additional punture bands and hope it helps. The last GP 5000 started punturing after 4000k and was quite worn. Must state, that I have ridden in very wet conditions the last two months and have had several punktures.

I had 2 sidewall punctures on the GP5000TL's (25mm). First one exploded on a minor bump leading to a crash and a bent front wheel after about 500km's. Second one already started to tear after 40km. Not sure if I got unlucky and just had some faulty ones, but I'm really disappointed in these tires and my thrust in them is gone. Anyway, I switched to Vittoria Corsa and also the new Pirelli P-Zero race tlr and they really brought my confidence back. Although the GP5000's handled very good, I'll never buy them again. It's just unacceptable for a company like Continental to produce such fragile tires or, if not fragile, lacking in their end control. Even on the internet and people i know myself, experiences are mixed. Most have no problems with them but a lot also have similar sidewall issues as I experienced.

I'm on the 32mm clinchers. Been with the GP 4k/5k since the 4k came out. Will never switch. In the last 50,000 miles I've had zero punctures and 4 sidewall cut/blowouts. Amazing. I really, REALLY want them to bring back the reflective sidewalls though. Safety first.

I'm running 32mm GP5000 with Latex tubes on my 2020 Diverge Sport with Hunt AeroLight wheels. This set up means my Diverge is a fine road bike (it otherwise has the stock DT Swiss wheels with 42 Pathfinder pro tires tubless). When I was able to join club rides (pre tighter lockdown restrictions) it rolled great and I had no trouble keeping up. The extra width of the 32mm's gives pretty good comfort too for those "lovely Belgian" roads I ride on. Super happy with them - although a tan sidewalled version would be nice!

Great topic/video Shane. I put on GP5000 28mm clinchers on 19 mm internal rim width on my Norco CRD about 1400KM ago . They ride beautifully but I was unable to install the tire back on the bike fully inflated, so I let the air out to get them in. The other issue is when I ride in wet condition, the build up of dirt on the the calipers makes the tire squeak and squeal, a bit annoying. I inflate them at 90PSI and have had one puncture caused by a metal staple. I am very happy with these tires. PS; I'm using standard tubes in my set-up.

Just so happened to order some 28c Tan walled GP5000's yesterday, fingers crossed they fit my Merida Reacto. Had already had a look over of the Rolling Resistance website, so have high hopes for them when replacing my Grand Prix's.

I moved to 28mm GP5000 TL tires in March 2019, and didn't pay attention to them much. After the 2020 Festive500 I noticed the rear was pretty squared off, but I had well over 8,000 km on it. It took quite a bit of searching to find a replacement set.

Riding the GP5000TL on Aeolus XXX4 wheels. Front tire is currently @ 5,961 miles (9,593 km). Not a single issue. Just remarkable.

In all very much the same as yourself lama, rave reviews for the 5000s from me as well. 6500km on the rear but due to a blow out caused by some glass the front is only coming up to a couple thousand klicks. Fast enough for me and have ran them in heavy rainfall without any squeaky bum moments (live in a relatively flat area though) so a fast all round tyre. I will be hard pushed to change to anything else even though my rims take TL

I have the GP5000T 28mm road about 2000km before the first puncture in the back which was fatal for the tubeless put a tube in and still going strong nearly a year later I am planning to do the change out to tubeless again

Tyres seem to be a very personal choice. Having said that - I've got gp5000 (25x700) clincher on my road (around 5.5km covered) & winter bikes (around 7km) - no issues punctures to date (just good luck i guess). Really happy with them - both on / (light) off road in all weathers. They seem to be a good 'allrounder'. Wife now has them too - its help her pick up the pace. I'm building a gravel/bike packing rig and opted for Panaracer Gravel King slicks (32x700), be interested to see how these last/compare to my gp5000 experience.

4000 km so far on the 28mm tubeless GP5000 mounted to Hunt 35 aero wide rims. I've ridden them through some really rough gravel tracks in addition to the usual road rides and no punctures or cuts. Great grip in the corners. Only complaint is really stiff when mounting.

Its a good idea to swap front to back, back to front around this mark. By doing that you can easily double your milage on these. Of course if you are feeling wasteful, you can just get new ones :)

Noooo. Never swap them back to front! When the back wears out, move the front to the back, new tyre on the front. The very last thing you want is a more worn tyre on the front which does most of your braking and all of the steering!

I am currently running GP 5000, tubeless in the 25 mm. I weigh 100 kg, got 1500 Kim's out of my rear tyre before wear was such had to replace, the replacement only lasted 200 Kim's before sidewall was holed.so I am now started on my 3rd rear tyre, the front is still good with some 2000 Kim's in it.

I've got the tubeless version. Second pair now. Ridden 7000km on the first without any puncture, I had to replace them because the rear wheel was worn out. The second pair has been going for 3500km without punctures aswell. So i'm pretty happy about them. Oh and I ride a lot of gravel/forests with them as well no problem.
