Contingency Plans: S1E3 Green Berets No Nonsense Bug Out | Gray Bearded Green Beret 

This guy is fully focused on what he is doing and I like the straightforward logic in his strategy. There was a prisoner hiding in the forest nearby. He had planned his escape well and was equipped with all kind of stuff to survive there. But after a few days he had to give up because he fell seriously ill after some tick bites. Bad planning or bad luck? May not be the bear, wolf or bandit in the forest that poses the biggest threads sometimes.

This guy is for real. No bogus advice. I salute you sir!

Marine Corps Infantry uses the PACE plan too. Being able to travel long distances quickly on foot carrying a pack can be tough, one of the comments talked about bicycles and interestingly I've been developing that idea myself. Went for a 30 mile ride this weekend and was none the worse for wear. Did it in jeans and with my get home bag loaded into the panniers. It definitely became the A in my PACE plan.

Thank you for mentioning family. So many of these preparedness videos are done by men with no mention of caring for anyone but themselves. I just was glad to hear family mentioned.

Having an alternate needs to be pretty far away. Army, it was a prominent terrain feature, if applicable. As a civilian, one lesson learned from Katrina (which is an EXCELLENT scenario to use), is to have an alternate area that is ideally a weather pattern away. Meaning, if, in the instance of Katrina, you have your alternate place-you want it to be outside of the hurricane zone. Here in New England, we really arent ideally located to break weather patterns. BUT, we can use local terrain-the White mountains, the Adirondacks, Green mountains, etc-as a sort of demarcation line. If you understand your local patterns, you can sort of plot a way around. One thing most people dont take into account, is learning about weather patterns, and how to plan and read them. This is a HUGE resource to learn and understand. Knowing your terrain is one thing. Knowing how the weather patterns in your area behave, how terrain affects it, etc, gives you a leg up when planning.

Always heard stories of Green Berets dropped in, observing, and offering advice. Montagnard for instance. It's so cool to have the "Civi" Green Beret dropped back into the US, observing, and offering advice. Thank you for your continued service to America.

Lots of bug out videos lately, of course this is one of the more sane and plausible ones. All good suggestions, unfortunately for me we're bugging in until the end. My biggest fear is getting home, I work in a downtown ravaged by rioting, looting, and arson. Recovering slowly but who knows what could ignite it again, and worse. It's more than 20 miles through dense urban/suburban terrain to get to our small acreage outside of town. My wife has a tough time walking to the mailbox so we aren't going anywhere. We have supplies and a creek and the means to make potable water so we'll sit tight until it's over, whatever "over" means. Good luck to us all. And we thought catching Covid was the end of the world...

I love this series. As an Eagle Scout and in the Air national Guard, I'm preparing and practicing everything I learned in scouts and carrying that over. I'd love him to meet donny dust and see those 2 brains think

Wait, glorious last stand in a pile of brass is not a plan 😜 Really like the tone of this. There is a tendency for former this or that guys to not adapt plans basis group members, family etc and what is advocated while great for fit and healthy men who have trained together for years, properly equipped and with the logistics of the US Army, is completely inappropriate for a family of four. Many thanks for this more level-headed and nuanced assessment 🙏👍 if you have a moment, would love to hear your ideas, or adaptions basis two small kids. Cheers😊

That's great, things never unfold in a predictable way, 1) Home 2) Vehicle 3) Alternate locations 4) temp shelter/ 5) Carry. Skilling and prepping these levels certainly gives you some flexibility and options in many scenarios & timelines (like a 'slow motion' shtf that comes in from many directions ;-/ ) . Thanks for the theory- now for some practice!

So glad I found someone with the credibility this guy has saying what I've been trying to get through to some of my prepper friends in such a straightforward way. It's all great to be prepared for complete disasters, but there's a lot that can happen between what is our "normal" now and the breakdown of society they've seen depicted in movies and video games. Now they're realizing it's not about getting to one particular house, but to have plans to get to each others house depending on where/what the situation calls for, or even just staying home if possible.

Thank you for putting this back out, I needed to revisit my plans and add to them as some things have changed, also no time like the present to go over and think about plans before an event happens and there’s a million other things to deal with.

Don’t forget about the good ole mountain bike. Have multiples. One per person at your primary location, one at a storage unit or friends house between primary and secondary location, and one at your final destination. Knowing how to work on it and fix things helps too.

This to my mind is the best channel on all these elements of survival etc. The explanations are so clear, so logical and so well articulated one can start structuring in the minds eye what and how things need to be done.

While going through the most recent freak storms here in the Ottawa Valley, I kept reminding myself that I had everything for P, but kept thinking of E... knowing I was ready to shelter and protect my family if it came to that. Got your book today, it is excellent, and totally recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have it yet, minor constructive feedback from me personally is that some detail isn’t too clear in some of the photos, but you have heaps of videos on RU-vid already that I could watch for more finer tuning on a specific step (like a specific part of tying a knot or something) but then again I don’t pretend to be the sharpest tool in the shed in the first place, and if you put too much detail in a book it will probably just be too big. I like how the book is prioritized into the most important things first including the overall strategy. Color photos would have been ‘nicer’ but I assume that would make the book much more expensive. This is the perfect book to use as a study guide with your vids on RU-vid 👍🏻 great work to all involved and great to see you getting your knowledge out to so many people. Sorry to say, but there is a ‘Total War’ coming to the western world (read ‘The Fourth Turning’ or listen to the audio version) but I also pay for premium investment research from the most accurate financial and economic forecasters on record, and all their conclusions paint the same picture, major financial ‘crash’ hitting the US (leads world markets) early 2027, worse than ‘GFC’, will be triggered by a major attack on the US in a manner that ‘rhymes’ (history never ‘repeats’ exactly) with the hit on Pearl Harbor that brought the US into the last fourth turning total war. Nukes were used last time and everything will also be on the table to be used this time too. There has been a total war in every fourth turning in all of history

I don't think there's a right answer to bug in vs bug out. Bugging out is not ideal for most people when they lack the truly effective skills or location to survive. The problem is that bugging in for anyone who lives in a city will be under attack as the city burns down around them and they'll likely be a target in a very short time period. So it's understandable why people don't even consider bugging in.

Why does no one talk about their bug to locations. Bug out is talked to death, but I'd like to see the destination and cache's on the way. You obviously have established the end or intermediate point with all your planning. Maybe explain this phase of escape or the degrees of the process beyond a bag, especially with dependents.
