Nice run I cant get any lower than 12 but thats was years ago and I gave up on speed runs because I get to frustrated.

The only game I could run through no death no hit was Astyanax. But haven't played in 15 years

Good job. If you want to spice the game up some, beat the game on one life while collecting all power-ups, even the ones that downgrade your current condition. It forces you to use some power-ups that may be awkward or that you might not be used to using. One missed power-up fails the mission.

I think everybody has beat this in 12 minutes or less. Used to play this almost every day after school with my brother. Most of the stages you can just run through without stopping.

When I first tried Contra (maybe a few years ago, never played it as a kid) I couldn't even manage to jump onto the exploding bridges in the first level. I probably picked up all kinds of power-ups I didn't need. At the "running forward" sections, I didn't even think you could dodge those bullets by ducking. I always flailed around, jumping from left to right, getting hit by every bullet. And then Ryu shows up going "it's actually not that hard, bro".

The S really makes all the difference. Losing that weapon to let's say to a laser crushes all hopes (if you could get the S back in time that is lol) Kudos though👍

This is my Childhood I used to come from School and play this game and complete it once Everything is just a Masterpiece IMO, The Music, Stages, Bosses, etc.

I beat it in 22 minutes. You can find my video on my channel. And yes, i was not trying to speedrun it, i was just playing for fun and to beat it. And yes, i used turbo buttons, because i'm tired of mashing shoot button.

Gaming

You would’ve had a faster time if you ran to the left after beating the stage 2 and stage 4 bosses, if you positioned yourself in the right spots after defeating all bosses so less time is taken in transition between levels, and at 4:05 if you took out two targets on the left and then right rather than taking out the two middle targets and then the ones on the very right and left.

We would never stop at beating this once. Same as Mario 3 or Streets of Rage. My childhood Video Gaming self would kick my ass.

at the end of level 3, you can bypass killing the arms to just kill the head. stand just to the left of center and shoot up, jump to dodge when needed and you will save valuable time .

How are you picking up that Rapid fire, without replacing your Spread.......? I've played this many times, over the years, but never became very good at it. I remember that any weapon pickup, replaces the last weapon. Am I wrong, or are there discrepancies, between some weapons?

Just for fun i tried to debunk the difficulty. I made it to level 6. I challenge ryu to beat this game with standard weapon

I remember when this game was new. Must of been 7-8 years old. Good old days of having fun games to play. Newer console games aren’t fun. NES and snes along with 25 cent arcade are where it’s at.

Holding the controller like that especially in the base levels is infuriating. You should be able to plow right through those stages without a hesitation, especially with a spreader and repeater.

I remember a issue of Nintendo power where a game tester said his greatest achievement was beating this game in 10 minutes with a power glove. We had no power glove, and it took us years to figure out 10 minutes was impossible. Prior to the speed run concept, it was about how many times we could complete the game through with the original 3 lives. The 5th playthrough was as far as we could manage to go.

There are certain games that you play in the arcade for so long that the console version seems inferior...This game was the opposite for me. Played it on the console so much that I hated the arcade version. Same thing with Kung-Fu Master on NES

I recommend Super C, it's brutal but fun.

If you get the R power up AFTER you have the S power up, it makes the S power up better ( they move faster and do more dmg )

I only finished this with my cousin .single player never ..he not here anymore but he will curse you for making this too easy.

Contra was one of the games I had on the NES and at first i had to use 30 lives code to finish it and by the end i was doing 3 complete runs on a single life.
