It's amazing Big D wasn't shut down (before the collapse) for not following OSHA procedures. Someone should be checking for structural integrity on their past jobs.
This is Idaho, where our elected officials think OSHA is communism. There is no way they cooperate with OSHA for any reason unless forced to by court order, and even then they'd drag their feet. OSHA is something that helps workers, not bosses, so Idaho's political class is 100% against it.
Good thing they prevented this disaster. They are reactive, not proactive. They are a shakedown operation. Government sanctioned organized crime. Big D probably paid off whoever was supposed to be overseeing.
I'm retired now after selling my factory 2 years ago. I had decades of no OSHA reportable accidents and zero employee injuries. I watched safety above all else. Told everyone that they came to work with all pieces and parts attached and I wanted them to go home the same way. I also stressed: if something may get you hurt STOP and seek guidance. I'm proud of my former employees and my record of a safe workplace.
They has no clue how to erect a steel building like this, and must had failed to install the braces on each section as they went. There is also the damning loose bolts the left likely thinking they can adjust the sections to true them up. A bunch of amateurs. With three workers dead, the fine should be in the millions. The people in charge on site should all be fired and investigated.
a lot of companies around here in the Nampa area just don’t bother with safety at all. they think it’s a joke and i’ll let yall on a small hint of a great example… starts with an A and logo is an arrow representing a smiley face. ask me how i know…
The victim's families should be suing for enough compensation to put all parties involved in this disaster out of business. This is what one gets when a state provides little regulation and inspection of businesses. It is typical of how Idaho does business.
The focus here is on the contractors, which is appropriate, but I want to know where they got the crew that was actually doing the work of erecting the steel. I'll bet they were not union steelworkers. Qualified, unionized workers would have walked out if safety procedures were not being followed.
Not to worry. Once American Redoubt is established, they can get rid of any pesky regulations that might hold good employers like this contractor accountable. That’s not good for business.👍😀
That fine is a joke. The company's lawyers will argue it down to 10K or so after a year or two. I have walked off of several jobs due to lack of safety and management stupidity. A worker has to look at the job for himself and decide if it is worth working there.
Wake up call my foot. Companies pushing the limits at any cost, endangering workers, and in this case, killing 3. $250,000 in fines, it's nothing. This needs to go in the millions to put a dent in the operation.
I have worked oilfield jobs that were totally unsafe and unmanaged for safety. When that is happening EVERYONE knows it could go south and works together to be as safe as possible under the circumstances and they take the chances only up to a point and then walk off. Surprising to see as many clear signs of disaster at this job site that nobody walked off before it happened. I find it difficult to believe everyone working there was that stupid or inexperienced but it happened so who knows.
I love living here in Idaho, but the workers' protection policies are too lax, and employers are getting away with a lot as far as safety measures . I worked for two Aerospace manufacturers up here in North Idaho, and they run it like a sweatshop, and they don't pay their employees the industry standard as far as wages and possibility of raises. The conditions are filthy and unsafe, and the working conditions of the facilities are very poor as far as safety. They tend to put the product ahead of the employees' well-being .
accidents happen but in my area steel works and all the trade companies do not play games when it comes to safety we love to see the men go home at the end of the day
Was this a union contract for construction? Did anyone of the workers speak up? If they had steel workers on site, they knew better. I have been told that there is no construction union in Idaho and it was the first right to work state. If government funds are involved, the Davis Bacon act is in play and certainly OSHA. No one spoke up apparently or OSHA would’ve been glad to step in and fine them and shut the job down. They were paying prevailing wage rate and the good part is they expected prevailing work for that money. Remember in a union operation the slowest worker gets the same money as the best fastest worker so they basically are all slow. Seen it firsthand been there.
Unions? In Idaho? You probably don't know that Idaho was the first "right to work" state which means only police and firefighters are allowed to have unions. There is an "electricians" union but it has no teeth and largely just functions as an employment office to help electricians get temp jobs. There are no other unions here. Certainly not in construction.
So willful negligence that results in death of workers is just a little slap on the wrist in punishment. Well, maybe the family can find justice in some other way. Is the address of Big D listed anywhere? What about the address of their owners? And what about the judge who gave them a wrist slap? Does he have an address? If you think I'm being harsh, you should note that the Supreme Court has legalized political violence.
This is why you should hire American citizens instead of the cheaper immigrants . These construction companies save money by using cheaper labor, but this shows what happens when the shoddy work catches up with you. I see foreign laborers doing sketchy work all the time, it's just a matter of time until something bad happens.
Company should shut down owners to jail.. press conference today.. jail to the company.. osha needs ro be purged.. OSHA was in charge of safety.. they all are lying.. its Idaho, imagrants died no one cares.. where is the investigation to imagrant workers rights. But if they were Mormon?.. This guy evem admits well they kept building.. all are responsible.. do no let them lie. Jail and deport the owners.
You can't blame OSHA when our politicians and judges here just flat ignore OSHA. If you can find a company in Idaho that is compliant in OSHA you might get a pulitzer. Also, they would absolutely have Mormons working in a non-OSHA-compliant worksite because *every* worksite in Idaho is non-compliant with OSHA. Its all part of "right to work" and it allows Idaho to unconstitutionally ignore federal laws. If anyone wants to bring a case, the Scotus would just claim that OSHA is illegal because they take bribes from billionaires who hate OSHA. And this Court has shown that it has no problem breaking the constitution all day long, like when they rewrite constitutional amendments without 3/4 of the states or 3/4 of the congress like the constitution requires. They also veto federal laws which the constitution says only a prez can do, they write laws which constitution says only congress can do, and furthermore, they have declared themselves to be above the law which would make them really good gangster assassins because they could kill the mob's enemies and get paid in the millions for doing so, right out in the open with people watching because they claim to be above all laws. They also claim their fuhrer Trump is above all laws, and rewrote constitutional amendments to enable him to run despite having launched an insurrection against America after having sworn an oath to our constitution.
@@ren-chats Sure it does. Nice, church-going Trump supporters hate OSHA and don't want companies who murder their employees to go to jail. Go ahead and pretend otherwise.
