Episode 106
Attic Raiders Retro Reviews gets in a spin with Contraption; the mechanical motorided marble maze which was released by Action GT and Lakeside in 1981.
From the manufacturers:
"Be first to trap your coloured marbles in a mechanised, motorised maze!
Trap moving marbles by pressing open the gate. Careful! Opening at the wrong time could lose those marbles already trapped!
Capture all of one colour to win. Play at higher skill levels by adding more marbles."

I would have loved this as a kid, these mechanical contraption games were (and still are!) my favorite. The reset switch mechanism is extra cool. The loudness reminds me of another game I had as a kid, I can't remember the name but it was a sealed clear dome full of plastic balls and an ungodly loud motor spun and popped them all over the place onto little cups located on each of four sides and the only gameplay was hitting buttons to send them back in if they weren't your color. It's probably still in my basement somewhere, one of these days I'll dig it out

Interesting - don't think I've come across that one before.

Thank you for the headphone warning. i'd also say that pressed down for off makes sense with the industrial machine aesthetic. it's better to be able to accidentally turn it off than accidentally turn it on after all. Thank you for another game review. I hadn't seen this one before.

cool video, came across a interesting vintage game called Ice Cube, where you take an actual ice cube and put it thru a maze of challenges to see which players ice cube lasts the longest.

I've seen that one, but not played it. It's a really neat concept.

I've honestly never heard of this game befote, but it's kinda like a 2 player mechanical Downfall.

For Me it could be much better game if would have some theme related to. For example sorcerer duel - who will product more magic bullets or knights/kings producing round shots. Of course with their figures on the board and cannons. I think that would make this game much more fun and interesting. Just only nice mechanism is not enough to be really good game. Thanks for another nice video.

The best part is the marble collection at gameʼs end - I wish more games were so easy to tidy up at the end! (But not if the tidying should be accompanied by such noisy droning…!) 👍
