Sorry this is a little late everyone! I had my vaccine last Thursday and had some side effects over the whole weekend. I'll fill you in next week!
I'm Linda and I'm 23 months post-op VSG surgery and I'm starting a weight loss medication (Contrave) to help me reach my personal goal weight of 155 lbs. Contrave is supposed to curb your appetite and help stifle cravings. I'll be checking in to give you my results and let you know of any side effects.
Starting weight: 180.1
Week 1 Bupropion only 100mg AM only. Weight: 175.1
Week 2 Bupropion only 100mg AM/PM. Weight: 173.6
Week 1 - Contrave (Bupropion & Naltrexone). Bupropion 100mg/Naltrexone 3mg AM & PM Weight: 173.2
Week 2 Contrave AM: 200mg Bupropion & 6mg Naltrexone/
PM: 100mg Bupropion & 6mg Naltrexone PM. Weight: 171.8
Week 3 Contrave AM: 200mg Bupropion & 12mg Naltrexone/
PM: 100mg Bupropion & 12mg Naltrexone PM. Weight: 170.8
Week 4 Contrave AM: 200mg Bupropion & 12mg Naltrexone/
PM: 200mg Bupropion & 12mg Naltrexone PM. Weight: 170
Week 5: Same dosage Weight 169.2
Week 6: Same dosage Weight 168.6
Week 7: Same dosage Weight 167.8

I'm glad to hear that you experience a loss of appetite or craving although during my first week of Contrave I haven't noticed much difference at all and I can still eat. I hope in the next few weeks my appetite will change. I don't have cravings but do still eat. Another video did state that it takes weeks to notice a difference. Thanks for the update.

I had vsg Jan 19 but after losing 103 lbs I'm stuck so I asked my Dr for contrave I started a week ago and the first day I took was groggy and foggy so I started taking at night so no side effects now

In the break did u take contrave and when u restarted what is the dosage now. Also do u take vitamins. Hugs from San Antonio Texas

Great question! Yes I continued to take Contrave during my diet break. My dosage 200mg Wellbutrin and 12mg naltrexone AM & PM. I take vitamins every day since I had bariatric surgery. I use Celebrate One and Celebrate calcium chews.

Hi Linda, thank you so much for sharing your story. My doctor prescribed Contrave a few weeks ago. I went off birth control pills in 2017 and have gained 35 pounds since! However, I’m reluctant to take the weight loss medication, for various reasons. But my question to you is, have you noticed any hair loss or hair thinning while on Contrave? I heard some people experience this, due to the Wellbutrin component of the drug. I’m happy it’s working for you and I wish you much success in your journey. Thank you 🌷

Hi Esperanza! No I have not experienced any hair loss from Contrave. I have taken Wellbutrin in the past as well and never noticed it. I did have hair loss due to my surgeries and due to rapid weight loss. It’s growing back now though. Keep me posted on how it goes!
