The physics of falling objects and the physics of explosive charges is pretty well understood. The steel has been cut so that it should fall in a predetermined direction. Still, things can go wrong, so its possible. But the Dali's bow is already so damaged that a random girder isn't likely to make things worse. And her bow is already in the mud, so its not like it'll sink her. I'm confident the unified command, Dali's crew, and the demolitions contractor have thought it through, including how to handle possible contingencies.
