Controlled Modulus Columns: An Alternative Foundation Solution in Loose and Soft Soils 

Hubert Scache, President of MENARD Canada Inc., presents "Controlled Modulus Columns: An Alternative Foundation Solution in Loose and Soft Soils".
Abstract: Controlled Modulus Columns (CMC) are rigid inclusions that reinforce compressible soils under conventional structural foundations or embankments to provide increased bearing capacity and control settlement. Menard invented this ground improvement solution about 30 years ago and since then has used it worldwide as an alternative to a piling foundation. Over time, Menard has been able to develop and improve internal design capabilities and establish design and construction standards for CMC.
CMC are typically designed in variable size and pattern to provide support for all types of structures such as buildings, warehouses, plants, bridges, embankments, dikes, storage and marine structures. This presentation by Menard Canada will focus on CMC global behavior and introduce design basics for CMC application for buildings, storage and embankments structures, supported by examples of previous projects in Canada.
Speaker Bio: Hubert Scache is the President of MENARD Canada and a Civil Engineering graduate (2002) from the ESTP civil engineering school in France and from TU Dresden in Germany. He joined Menard Group in 2003 and has experience in various ground improvement techniques including Soil Densification, Consolidation, Reinforcement and Grouting in Europe and Canada.
