Side marker lights are fine. What gets me is that the AT4 only has an 8" instrument cluster instead of the 11". 11" IC should come as an option in the technology package and yet it doesn't. WTF GM?

I agree but if they did that, there would be absolutely no reason to buy a Denali other than the chrome grill, mirrors and extra stitching. Gotta make up that $3k upcharge somehow!

I have a 22 HD and I liked the markers at night but not the orange lenses during the day. I put aftermarket smoke ones on so during the day they blend in with the fender trim and they show up orange at night. Much better set up that way in my opinion.

Very nice interior and exterior. I’m not a fan of having to open a menu to turn on the fog lights… what if you are driving and you encounter fog? Seems awkward.

Hey Tim, Finally someone demonstrating night time vehicle lighting! Thank you. My jury is still out on the side marker lights ( although anything that improves your nighttime visibility is a plus ). I didn’t like the broken lines of the front accent lighting but, I did like the tail lights. I think the bed lighting program was ok but, may allow for the drivers to forget to turn the bed light off before driving? I did not notice any puddle lighting below the mirrors? As far as the heads up display, will it work without the headlights turned on or maybe with just the fog lamps turned on so the headlamps won’t wash out the display while you video the display features? Don’t let the chiggers bite you! Stay safe and healthy! Ron

Thanks for this video, very useful information! I am seriously considering the Canyon as my next truck, waiting to see the new Tacoma before making my decision. I like the side markers, better to have them than the empty spaces on the Chevy version. I am not happy about the placement of the headlight controls! A simple dash or stalk switch is so much easier to use especially when conditions suddenly change. In my opinion having to use the touchscreen for this function was a stupid design decision.

Thanks Tim. Your the only one I've seen show the lighting at nite. That cargo light and fog light setup needs a hard button as well as a screen button. That is a PIA to go thru all that just to turn on a cargo light. I do not like it. Cargo light should also be a key fob option.

Extra marker lights are usually associated with larger vehicles and not on a midsize truck. It does give it a Trucky appeal, but also a commercial appeal.

I’m actively looking and on the market, nearly 90% on my decision to pull the trigger. The marker lights, I already thought I would black them out but at night they’re neat actually. Thanks for the video, I wanted this but no one else has made one at night!

Make sure you thoroughly test it before you buy because something like the lights in the screen could end up being a deal breaker.

I like the truck. But hate the lack of a physical headlight control. I live in a really rural area and share a long driveway with a neighbor. As a courtesy I enter and leave with just parking lights after dark. How convenient to have to mess with menus on an infotainment screen. 😖 This look likes an engineer came up with a solution in search of a problem. (That didn’t exist)

Is there no exterior lighting when unlocking?? Most cars have at least markers that come on when unlocking I didn’t see any come on when you unlocked

I have an AT4 and you do get used to the lights Quirk.. if I was more tech savvy with android I would likely move the cargo and fog light options to the pinned light menu (seems to me where it should have been in the first place maybe use the lighting menu for auto accent settings etc aside from that I love my truck (the HUD would have been a nice addition)

Do you have to manually turn the fog lights on each time you restart the truck, or does it remember you had them on and save it?

Each time likely since the truck will chime with the lights on after you turn it off.

@@Pickuptrucktalk I don't think so. From the 2023 Canyon manual: "If the fog lamps are turned on while the exterior lamp control is set to Auto, the lamps come on automatically." Also, "A reminder chime sounds when the headlamps or parking lamps are manually turned on, the ignition is off, and a door is open. To disable the chime, turn the lamps off."

I like the side markers lights! Ordered the AT4 on April 12. Can you demonstrate the lights on the At4 trim? I saw another video that said the brake lights on the Denali trim were NOT LED. thank you!

Imagine 50k plus for a truck that doesn’t have LED interior lights or LED lights all around for that matter? No bed lighting? What if you put a tonneau cover on…. I bet GM adds all that standard in 3 years to get new buyers for a refreshed model.

I think the marker lights are kind of cool. But I noticed that the mirrors don’t have a turn signal light and turning off the cargo bad and fog lights seems like he a pain in the ass.

I'm fine with no lights in the mirror, one less LED circuit card to fail. Had one fail in my Ram, $370 for a new mirror assembly to fix it....nope.

The light controls inside the screen is not solving any problems. It creates more. GM's reasoning for moving it was because of space but they could have easily integrated this into the left stalk like how Toyota does it. It's not like GM doesn't already use the left stalk pulling back action to do high beams...

Definitely it’s more cost cutting than anything. I’ve had my share of GM products where the screen gets screwy. Not a fan of integrated systems.

No problem with side marker lights. I guess the trailer brake control took the space where headlights switch would be, so, headlights are in the screen. Set and forget?

RE headlights, It seems like they made something more cumbersome than it needs to be. Toyota’s new Entune system is a prime example. It’s only an upgrade if it makes tasks easier otherwise it’s just an “update”. I can’t emphasize this enough when working with software engineers.

Can you use the steering wheel controls to navigate the infotainment system and to select or not options like the lights?

The steering wheel controls apply to the digital display and cruise control.

@@Pickuptrucktalk in my 2019 I could access to the infotainment system, since they are moving controls for the lights and all to the center stack I was curious if the driver had more control from the wheel so you could keep hands on the wheel and eyes forward not looking to the side. Hmmm

Small pickups seem to have heavy tailgates. My older Frontier was heavy. I don’t like that the fog lights aren’t accessible from the quick shortcut on the main screen. And the side makers are ok but really don’t fit a trim like the denali. Should only be on the off road trims AT4 and AT4X. My take.

My 2024 AT 4. Has flickering headlights.... Seems to be an issue on trucks produced in May and June. GM has no fix available currently. 😡😡😡

@@mariagiordano3902 I've seen a couple on TFL Trucks, but by looking at the manual, there are 8 things possible: front lock, rear lock, Auto Stop/Start, tow/haul, hazards, express down windows, Lane keep assist, and Aux. Since the vids clearly show 7 switches, I'm guessing no tow/haul?

I know it’s set to auto headlights and the high beams are on the stalk but if you need to adjust the clearance lights, fog lights, cargo, etc. and the touch screen goes bad over time well it’s not going to be a fun day.

@@Dusdaddy someone else posted that it runs off an entirely different module, so if the screen breaks nothing else is affected (including lights if on auto). Not sure if a detected screen breakage enables a default operation either (ie turning lights on all the time just as a safety measure).

You just know people will forget to turn off the cargo lights. It should at least be added to the quick menu. And so having the light controls on the screen means I can't quickly flash my lights at someone??

The flashers still work with the turn signal stalk.

Looking at my local GMC dealer the Canyon looks to be more expensive although they do offer $1000 off MSRP. The Chevy dealer down the road is marking up their new Colorado inventory by a few $1000. EV inventory can't get here fast enough to drive the price of ICE vehicles and trucks back down.

Marker lights are cool but I’d prefer and would change them to white. As far as the bed lights go, dumb to not include them especially in their higher trims. Also still highly dislike all the light controls built into the computer. Would have been a lot easier to open door push button for cargo lights, instead of monkeying around with the damn screen.

Here’s an idea, add a separate switch for them, and change them to bright LED spotlight for off-road Ing. Would need an aftermarket company to make some that fit in there

I love the side marker lights for safety, I hate the light control on the entertainment screen. I go to military bases a lot and at night you turn off your lights so you dont blind the guard at the gate. I also go to areas with safety corridors where during the day you have to drive with your lights on. With a switch by my knee or on the stalk, I dont need to take my eyes off the road. Since using your phone is illegal while driving, I wonder if people will start having accidents and blame GM for having to take their eyes off the road for basic tasks. I also hate the fact that if the entertainment center craps out, I cant control lights or trip functions. Thats one hell of an expensive light switch to repair. Love the truck other than those issues.

More GM blunders: 1. The front side and rear marker lights should blink by dimming and getting brighter turning left, right or hazards 2. The rear side marker lights should be red by law 3. The side mirrors are missing blinker lights

There should be cargo lights in the bed that automatically come on when you open the tailgate, that's a miss on GM's part. My pickup has them and it's a 2017 and it wasn't over $60K for Christ sake!
