It was too many times where players and fans hyppe each other by complaining on obvious... on most obvious foul like fouling by grabing someone on his face... and they still chant f u... even player admited at begining that he did the foul, but turns back and starts argue minutes later... it just shows how fans are motivated by anger and lack of understanding in basketball :)... good game tho... dirty, but good.

you keep saying "according to the rules" in regards to the unsportsmanlike foul. what rules? the condition for that play to be regarded as unsportsmanlike conduct can only fall under the "• Excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an opponent." criteria. which is fine if that's your interpretation of the play (and I actually agree) but you didn't justify it in the least. contact to the face is not, by itself, enough to make it unsportsmanlike (otherwise Keenan would have had one prior in the game when he elbowed Hanga on a rip through, for example). it's certainly debatable due to the fact that both players are in the air (as Rytis correctly states) and due to the fact that Ulanovas double pumps the ball away from the defender making the reach to the ball much harder. if you're going to bring this topic up, present actual argumentation for it. with regards to Keenan's possible back court violation, the answer is clear: when he first pivots with his left foot he is clearly over the sideline. the simple fact that we're discussing whether he did or did not step on the half court line makes it an obvious drag of the pivot foot which constitutes a travel. it's true that this isn't strictly enforced at any level of professional play but it is a violation nonetheless.

Shameful refering. Almost bigger robbery than aggainst Barcelona last year. I watched replay. Some of decisions made on Red Star's damage: 1. Lazarevic's foul at the end of 2nd quarter (1.1 second until the end of first half), 2. GIllespi's foul on Dovydas Giedraitis, Gillespi touched only the ball, no body contact (3rd quarter), 3. First half, Ulanovas fouled Nedovic (2nd quarter), 4. Unsportsmanlike foul for Yago by Birutis, if the criterion is the same as when Yago made unsportsmanlike foul on Ulanovas (4th quarter), 5. Evans didn't step on line, he travelled in that situation (End of the game). So there is at least 5 mistakes in the game where difference was 2 points, absolutely disgrace. The worst refering for Red Star in this season without a doubt. And one more thing, both teams WON'T qualify for play in 100%, so i don't understand why this was necessary? PS: I totally agree about unsportsmanlike foul for Yago, but it was unsportsmanlike foul for Birutis too. I would like to see your opinion about this situations. Thanks.

That is what I was talking about in video about referees. It is not unsportman faul, because it was commited face to player, and the point is intention and not result. If defender under basket jump to try to block attacker, miss ball and hit him in the ehad, would you call that unsportman or regular faul? Same is in every spot of the court. Red Star player intention was to go for the ball, he hit him in the end in the head becasue Zhalgiris player with ball was very clever to move direction of ball in the air four times, so Red Star player tried to punch it with left hand, but totally missed and it ended hitting him in the head (or missing the ball). And by FIBA rules it cannot be unsport play, but quite opposite, it was basketball play that went wrong and ended with faul, but regular faul. It would be differant story if Red star player jumped like this from Zhalgiris player blind spot, but he didn't, he was in front of him. Unsportmanship play is not determined by severnes of faul, but by intention of player that fauls, or was his intention to hurt opposite player, or his intention was actually to go for ball and accidentally hurt opposite player, and that is written black and white. More so, they call that in the worst possible momment, in end moment, during close result, and most embaracing of all, they even watched the video, and they let video on big screen so everyone can see it, and they still kept on their decission, although it is obviouse it is not unsportmanship faul by the rules: so they don't know or don't understand rules. And that is disgrace for Euroleague, and by my oppinion, referees had well deserved coins barage, and they should go to church to thank God for Serbian special antiterroristic forces that escort them alive from Arena... We can argue now did Red Star player intentionally hit him in the head or not, fact is Zhalgiris player maestrally moved that ball left- right-back, but not all the way back, but returned it again little to the other side, and draw Red Star player into trap, he even tried t oredirect hand to the right, but Zhalgiris player moved same direction, and all guide to th eunintentional head hit. And that is the point: intention must be obviouse, not arbitrary or seemingly... On the other hand, line case is obviously not conclusive. In cases when video is nonconclusive, the rules says arbiters should keep their original decission. And that is OK call, but after fiasco with previouse call, very little thing is enough to further agravate already agravated funs. P. S. In the end, that 1 more point for additional free throw due to unsportmanship faul technically didn't change outcome of the game, because Zhalgiris won with +2. Referees, even if they didn't give unsportman faul, would have to call regular faul, and Red Star being in bonus, that would be 2 free throws (after all, that is what Red Star wanted, to make faul-stop on Zhalgiris), so they would won by +1 anyway, and referees here, in theory, didn't influence the final outcome. Neverthelss, that is technically and in theory, but in practice they made a total mess without any need, they even produced life threatening situation for everyone on the court, and we can now argue that they were influencing psychologically on Red Star players, who could maybe played finish more succesfully if they were not in distress becasue of that call and cosequences of it... All in all, it was bautiful basketball 38 minutes, really great game from both teams, and all of a sudden it became ugly beyond comprehenssion due to referees "impressions"... I can bet that even Zhalgiris players would like more that was simply a regular faul, and that game ended in good sportmanship atmosphere, so they could prowdly bring victory home... I guess their mood was ruined also... P. P. S. I should remind you on case of Boriša Simanić in the World Cup. In hustle under the basket, he got elbow into kidney. It turned out it is lifethreatening injury and he had to go to hospital urgent and they took out his kidney. Then again he had life threathening complications and had to go to one more surgery. He almost died twice. That faul was obviously intentionally rougher than usual, but by any means, it was still regular faul -- faul that doesn't fullfill conditions to be called unsportman faul. And from other end, it is obvious that opposite player didn't have intention to kill him (what almost happened), nor even to hurt him bad (what did happened), just to stop him with a faul. But it is not the outcome of faul that matters, but intetion of player that fauls...

I admire the analysis, but the part about unsportmanlike foul seems to be your interpretation. Rules say that you can award it for " Excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an opponent" and other things. We could analyse if the rules are good, but referees should fallow them without making they own interpretations. To start making different calls if its the end of the game seems strange to me, because how players know can they play rough or there will be a foul.
@svarozjov
@svarozjov 4 месяца назад
@@Muziejininkas Yes, and let it put here clear so everyone understand what is problem and why BasketNews are refering to this unsportmanlike fouls as a problem. Euroleague uses FIBA officiating standards, and that is titled "Official basketball rules 2022", the last update... Article 37 Article 37.1.1 (definitions what is unsportlike fouls) 1. CONTACT WITH THE OPPONENT and not legitimly attempting to play the ball within the spirit and intent of rules. 2. EXCESSIVE, HARD CONTACT caussed by player in an effort to PLAY THE BALL. 3. UNNECESSARY CONTACT caused by defensive player in order to stop progress of the offensive team IN TRANSITION. This applies until the offensive player starts act of shooting. 4. An ILLEGAL CONTACT caused by the player behind or laterally on an opponent, who is progressing toward opponent basket and with no opponents between progressive player and basket. Then comes Article 37.1.2 and that is the main problem both in Euroleague and FIBA international competitions, as same as in NBA, although not neccesary on same issue of fouls. And it goes: Article 37.1.2. The referee MUST INTERPRET unsportmanlike fouls CONSISTENTLY throughout the game AND JUDGE ONLY THE ACTION. When you read pure definitions of what is unsportsmanlike fouls, it appeares it is every contact in the game. But there is grades. Applying rule 1, it is obviouse you will not get unsportmanlike foul if you hit opponent on hands, arms, forearms, shoulders etc. (all good is it if it is not in the face, but even for face and head) even if it is obviouse you didn't play on ball, and even when you would be unable to reach ball at all. No referee would call unsportsmanlike foul for accidental tap with the palm on a top of opponent palyer head, (referee will call for sure regular foul, but not unsportsmanlike), as long as it is "within spirit and intent of rules". On the other side, intentional fingers in the eyes, fist to the nose, elbow to the chin etc. would be, without any possibility for doubt, called as unsportsmanlike foul. So you already have, for definition of 1st type of unsportsmanlike fouls, clear what is that type of faul, clear what will not be concidered unsportmanslike foul (with stress "unsportsmanlike", becasue almost everything I gave as example up here is 100% regular fouls, and should be called always, although that is not applied either in full), and all of a sudden you have gray zone between that two poles, that need INTERPRETATION. Here is example. Two players are fighting for position, no ball involved, standard appearance on post and in blocks and screens. If one start sudden movement and opponent hand accidentally appeare near his neck, and there is even contact, but with no intention whatsoever of that other player to do that, so he quickly remove hand, nothing will be called. If in the same situation that other player say: "Ohoho!", and start to choke him in grappling grip, it will be obviouse unsportsmanlike foul. But what with case when in that situation, and that happeneds a lot, player hand in movement ends above extended hand of standing player, who cannot extend it anymore, he can only contract it, and it appeares like he is trying to choke or grab the player in movement, but he is actually locked and cannot retract hand, can just fallow player in movement. It will be called as foul, but it will not be unsportsmanlike foul, but regular, because there was no INTENTION of player for such foul, and that is "in spirit and intention of rules". 2. Definistion of 2nd type of unsportsmanlike foul is again extremly problematic. Do you know what is EXCESIVE HARD CONTACT? Is it when you hit purposely and intentionally opponent with full strength and without any restriction? Yes, obviously, that is the clear one, when it is obviouse it is intention to hurt, and not to play on the ball. But what if you run, opponent run, you both jump, and you miss the ball, or even don't miss, but hit both ball and opponent on the head in the fire of the game. You will get a foul, but regular, not unsportsmanlike, because althoguh contact was HARD, it was not EXCESIVE. But again, that is a gray zone, and main reason why it is a gray zone is there is no DEFINITION what is EXCESIVE HARD, and what is NORMAL HARD, CONTACT. It is left for referees to define it by their "subjective" judgement. But it is actually not so subjective as if it could be interpretated solely by definishion in rule book. FIBA officiating assosiation has their esnaff recommendation that are not from yesterday, but circulates for decades. EXCESIVE HARD FOUL is the one that threatens seriouse injury and put fouled player in danger to be hurt, and it would always should be called as unsportsmanlike foul. If it is not injury threatening, that is just HARD or little ruffer regular faul. And there is where also INTENTION of palyer comes as very important ellement of equassion. Because, even if some player didn't succed to made EXCESIVE HARD FOUL, but he obviously intended to hurt opponent player with one, he would get unsportsmanlike foul without discussion. On the other hand, if the foul was on the edge to be EXCESIVE HARD, but was unintentional, accidental, it is more likely to be called regular foul (even when, for instance, one player slip and lose ballace and, while falling, trip player in run, and that second fall and brake arm or leg -- it is EXCESIVE HARD injury over any doubt, but there was no intention of the player who commited that foul and cause that...). So, in essence, the main mission of referees on the court is to keep game under control, to not allow atmosphere or situation where palyers might start to injure one another, or even to start to fight each other. And there is that famouse Article 37.1.2. Good referee has in definition of 1st and 2nd type of unsportsmanlike fouls certain gray zones where they can INTERPRET to some extent what is unsportsmanlike foul (that EXCESIVE HARD) and what is jsut HARD (or regular), but he has OBLIGATION to do it CONSISTENTLY THROUGHOUT THE GAME. What that means? If something is not unsportmanslike foul in first minutes of 1st quarter, or in 2nd quarter, or in 3rd, it cannot suddenly become unsportsmanlike foul in last minutes of the game. In this game Zvezda vs Zhalgiris, referee INTERPRETED and he established his INTERPRETATION of this kind of foul in first half of the game (and everyone who watched the game knows there was multiple simillar hard fouls, even harder than this problematic, even two I would call unsportmanslike foul without any hesitation), but he cannot allow one level of interpretation of hardness during the game, and then in endgame to change his established standard of interpretation of EXCESIVE HARD and just HARD. And this foul had every ellements not to be called unsportsmanlike, it is in gray zone of EXCESIVENESS, and what so ever, all simillar fouls were before that one rulled as regular. So, by my judgement, referees made 4 cardinal mistakes in game: 1. They allowed rough game from the start (and by my oppinion, they allowed to rough and already there they lost their hold over the game). 2. Cahnged refereeing criterium during a game. 3. Changed it in crucial moments of the end game. 4. They still could use video check to defuse situation and to calm down both audience and players on the court, and they could do it, because EXCESIVENESS, if it is not intentional, is in their power of INTERPRETATION, but they decided to miss that opportunity also... And this fazes is also graver and graver mistakes. If you allow yourself 1st, you better commit 2nd as selfcorection during first half, and not wait 4th quarter, and you certainly don't do it by 3rd, and you certainly don't push it with 4th if you see angry mob ready to jump on the court and linch you. And for end, why I am not talking about 3rd and 4th type of unsportsmanlike foul, where you have UNNECESSARY (3rd) and ILLEGAL (4th) CONTACTS, or in translation total ban of any contact. It is 2 very detailed described situations and very clear: no contact what so ever (based, again, on high risk of palyers' injuries in such situations), and there is no "space" for interperetation of that rules, they must be applied (and I already watched several games in Euroleague this season where they were not applied, and multiple time in one game not applied, and that is pretty interesting). P. S. As I said, that officiating recommendation exist for decades already, and it was not changed (regarding CONTACTS from 1st and EXCESIVNESS from 2nd) from late 1980s, and we occassionally, before 30, 20, 10 yeras, could see here and there games badly officiated and uncapable and "shortsided" referees, but this is already a pretty long string this season in Euroleague... And I checked, that is not unexpirienced referees, they have long carriers and top reputations in their domestic leagues, even on FIBA list for international competitions. You cannot say they are uncompetent and uncapable, they are just to to to "sloppy" lately. I guess there msut be some collision between Euroleague demanding one standard, and not "standard standard" that referees accustomed to in their main leagues, and in that colission, they are not succeeding to implements Euroleague standard, nor they implement their own, and you get this games where everybody is uspet with refereeing.

You dojnt understand big thing.Red star didnt exist in basketball,thats club whos has name FMP , red star go in history and fmp change name in red star belgrade,they are nothing in mean of basketball, iin real serbian basketball we has many clubs but no rs,BCPartizan is something great, if we has enaf money,real wasnt near us,just us numbers of titles in eurobasket,worldbasket championships,or olipic games,every is made by BC Partizan ex or in that moment players,rs isnt nothing,thats all in this story,if president of serbia and gouverment dont push them they are die in this momment,Partizan is oposit in basketball,we have hard times,but becouse we have many big names in history they pushed us to survive,and thats all, what you are talking,thats normal ,,gipsie" game(gipsies call them all around balkan becouse thats his life,win and dont cry if you are tthief,BCP isnt that) in every sports,they are in arena becouse BCP is there,but BCPartizan sold their cards for games,but rs give you card for game if you buy cips on gas station,if you understand,they didnt exist,and every comment of their games is pure shit,you lossing your and our time,n Serbia exist many BC ckubs,Partizan is something great,rs is nothing,that is run beetwen BCPartizan and serbain president whos cant look how his club lossing from BCP every time,they heve place in euroleaugue just becouse little club from some village zeleznik,take gouverment money and again nothing,again in Serbia exist one big club in basketball,Partizan,everything else isnt for comment.You can numberd for me big names from rsb bc in the basketball,you will be shocked,becouse if some bc player is su[porter of rs that is becouse of football,where thay do some big things,do and Partizan but they are big club,but if Partizan is big in waterpolo they do some mutant to fight against us,biggest club in all times is watrpolo club Partizan,they today play some second league in Serbia,becouse our(my for sure not,but idiots wote for him) president built some other club and ruin Partisan in that sport,thats eliness,understand,same story was in football,look when Partizan go down and rs run like unstopible team,when one idiot come in the head in Serbia,about basketball,realy thay didnt exist,and for fans of fcrs is just job come on game and they doesnt think about that what will be good or not,remember last year,if Real play with them,realy thats game in Balgrede will be pure shit,and end of all games of ,,gipsies" , but BCP is big club,has his own crow and ok,we lose,our supporters are in prisons,thier has big firms and built aroun Belgrade and took money for their support.Thats difference between that two clubs,and you dismiss when give any word about them.Look BCP and thats all from Serbia in this days,I understand becouse Zalgiris is your club and you talk about Zalgiris game,but remeber how Partizan is welcomen in Kaunes and how is welcomen rs?Remeber,I think that all fans of Zalgiris understand me,and they know what happend in basketball like every fan of Partizan,I think that any ,,fan" of bc fmp2 dont know anything about ,,his" club,even that that his club didnt exist.

Red Star and Partisan don't belong to the Euroleague. Unfortunately together with Olympiakos and Panathinaikos they belong to the Balkans. Serbian teams have suspicious sources of income. Their fans always cause trouble. The fans of Olympiakos say racist things and the president of Panathinaikos calls the president of the Euroleague 'Bodiroga mafia'. I want to watch basketball, I like basketball not drama.
