He was a proponent of peace, both domestically and internationally. He repeatedly cautioned the Turkish government against actions that could harm Syria's unity. Regrettably, those who thrive on conflict and war fabricated excuses to hinder him. However, no one will be able to halt the pursuit of peace universally. Peace will surmount all obstacles.
If he had any kind of vision he would not deal with politics of a country. He had managed to create an organization much powerfull then a state. Vision and ambition are two different thing one might have.
He was the closest ally of Erdogan for decades when he was already in the US. And he was as corrupt as Erdogan so you are asking the wrong question but it is understandable you just don't know
The United States does not declare a group of individuals as terrorists without any warrant. That is precisely what happened to Gulen and his followers; the government denied all requests that sought the help of an international investigative committee that would uncover the parties involved in the coup attempt, yet declared Gulen and his followers as the scapegoat. Mind you, this movement has schools and associations in over 170 countries and Turkey is the only state that declared them as terrorists--rest are pleased with their presence and support them by however much they can support without causing additional political tension.
In the history of Islam, many great figures have only been fully recognized after their time. This is true for Fethullah Gulen as well. Erdogan destroyed democracy, and corrupted the state and put power with the church and state. Erdogan has been president for now over 20yrs and instead of trying to help the people, stop power outages, and save Turkey's dwinidling economy that he also screwed up, he just buys another half a billion dollar mansion just for himself. Fethullah Gulen always advocated and inspired the Turkish people to think and be more educated as well as to advocate for democracy and show the corruption behind the state.

Turkiyae is a NATO ally, so we will never see the full story. Erdogan implemented religion in the government, while Gulen wanted separation of Church and State. Erdogan has more dictatorial power, while Gulen wanted local government independence. So, Gulen more reflected western values. Its also likely that Gulen got help from western governments to plan an insurrection against Erdogan, because we don't like nonsecularist dictators (Erdogan), even if they are in our "Special group of friends" (NATO), but that is just me speculating, based on the history of the CIA and NSA. We'll never know what happened here. We were fortunate to have Turkiyae as a military ally in our wars in the middle east, so we should just be thankful for that.
