That exactly sums it up. Electron apps can be …“ok”. Some of us have been Mac users and 1Password users because we’re simply not ok with apps just being “ok”. We prefer excellence and we’re paying for that. And from what I gather, many of us will be taking our business elsewhere.
Not supporting local vaults on your machine is the biggest mistake in version 8. They are forcing everyone to upload their passwords to 1password servers. A total turnoff and risky based on how many companies get hacked. They become in control of your passwords and have the ability to restrict your access at anytime.
it's essentially the same damn thing.... i just signed up and switched over to 1PS8 from 1PS7 and didn't have to transfer any of my information over... it was already there.. doesn't that mean they were already storing them on their servers? And just because the information is stored on their servers doesn't mean it is not encrypted.
Most of the time, if you loose your master key, you're not in trouble, you have to reset all your passwords received via email links. So whatever you use, use 2 factor authentication for your email, ideally with a hardware token (so if your phone gets owned...).
What happened to the ability to drag the order of items are in a section, to me the biggest feature i need once i have entered some new fields I don't see it, is it actually gone if so, i will be either staying on 7 or moving to another password manager.
Hi Matt: I am using 1Password for Mac v8, and I do not see the "additional recovery options" you referenced in your video. Can you please provide more information about this new feature?
I have version 7 of 1password, I installed version 8 in parallel. Unfortunately version 8 is currently in beta, so a lot of work is still ahead of the developer. The basic bug is that v8 doesn't import all vaults and synchronizes devices in such a way that we lose data! Such events will be disqualified by beta 8 for now.
I have MacOS 12.4 and 1P8 Family and tried sharing the "Private" vault to the "Shared" vault. Not only is this impossible on the desktop, it is impossible on the iPhone app. The vids and work with 1P support were a waste of time and effort. It's crap. April 2023
Allegedly, Electron apps are slow and buggy, partially due to extra overhead. 1Password's app doesn't seem to exhibit any Electron-related problems, though.
Keepass is amazing! Very easy to use, works great on all operating systems, it is free (although I suggest donating to the team), it is constantly being updated and, as you said, it is open source. Which I would argue it is one of the most important things for a password managers. You never know when a company will change their business plan, nor when they will hire a different CEO with other expectations in mind. I am all open supporting the developers so they can build their software, but I really think 1password is really behind it. Especially now.
Electron app could be the killer for me. I would think it’s less secure and use way to many resources. Seems like a shortcut to me. I was thinking of switching to Apple because of their changes lately and I’m gonna take a look at that much harder.
No (and yes). The Family Sharing is only for purchased apps. If you want to have your partner (or more persons) in on the same subscription, you need to pay for the family plan (and not the individual plan).
