Our season of live concerts begins on October 9 with a performance by virtuoso guitarist Martha Masters.
Martha achieved international recognition in 2000 when she won first prize in the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and has since been active as a solo recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist around the world.
Masters has recorded five albums covering much of the guitar repertory from Bach to current composers, including one album devoted to Spanish music and another to Italian. Of her CD on Spanish music, Brad Conroy in Guitar International writes: “Masters performs this rare set of pieces with precision, incredible tone, expressive dynamics, and a deep understanding of the Spanish guitar heritage.” Boston Classical Guitar Society reported on her performance there that “Martha Masters played with an extremely high level of refinement and poise that brought much fluidity to her sense of musicality and technical arsenal.” And a review in The Guitarista exclaimed: “The effect was tantalizing… she played very attentively and beautifully - I was in heaven.”

Steve Lin has performed throughout the United States, Italy, the Philippines, Japan, Mexico, and Taiwan. He is praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as “a confident player with a powerful sound, quick hands, and a solid musical memory” and was the first prize winner at the Boston GuitarFest Competition and the East Carolina Guitar Competition. He has two albums on VGo Recordings: Eliot Fisk Series Vol. 1 and Imagen. Steve is guitar professor at San Jose State University, where he teaches guitar and music. He is a founding member of Black Cedar Trio, dedicated to music for flute, guitar, and cello.
Steve earned his B.M. and D.M.A. from New England Conservatory, and his M.M. from Yale School of Music. His teachers have included Eliot Fisk, Oscar Ghighlia, Lorenzo Micheli, Ron Purcell, Ron Borczon, and Wei-Ren Chuang.
