Our conversation with Mark Green focuses on the power of rituals and their impact on human psychology. Mark teaches us how rituals provide connection, community, and meaning and that everyone has the right to create their own rituals to connect with the rhythms of the Earth, without any need for religious ordination or rules.
A 35-year veteran of the United States’ Pagan community, Mark Green is a poet, a singer, a ritualist, a nonprofit executive, and an activist. He founded the largest environmental organization in his region, Sonoma County Conservation Action, and was recognized by Congress and the California State Legislature for this work. He continues to work professionally in environmental advocacy for CalWild, California’s leading advocate for protection of wild spaces on public lands.
Mark was the initial creator of the nontheist Pagan path Atheopaganism, and i active in the Atheopagan community, serving as a Councilmember of the nonprofit Atheopagan Society.
