Q&A with Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, Yvette Nicole Brown and Danny Pudi. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Back Stage.
The critically acclaimed "Community" is a smart, exuberant half-hour comedy series about a tight-knit study group at Greendale Community College. At the center of the group is Jeff Winger (Joel McHale, "The Soup"), a fast-talking lawyer whose degree has been revoked. With some help from his fellow classmates, Winger forms a study group who eventually learn more about themselves than their course work.

YNB is the friend we all need. She seems to be the most genuinely supportive person, who just loves to see good things happen for other people.

I like that the cast often reflects the show, in that watching these videos of panels they have done, there is always a mix of heart and comedy. Usually Yvette or Gillian will say something heartfelt, and then Jim, Joel, or Allison will swoop in and undercut that tension with sarcasm and wit. I've noticed that a lot in these panels, and it reminds me of the show being much the same way- genuine human compassion/empathy, followed by a fart sound or a juvenile joke about genitals/butts. I've come to realize that I really appreciate both- feeling human connection, but also having that tear-jerking moment undercut with silliness. P.S. I wish I could remember it exactly, but this post made me think about some quote about the most important things in life being laughing and love, and that is why I love the show, and the chemistry that the cast has- they make you feel love, but then follow it up with the laughs.

I cannot believe that the host actually had the audacity to say that she would be genuinely sad if there was someone really out there like “The Dean” like whhhhhhattt?!? He’s such an underrated character! He’s literally a happy, whimsical, flamboyant ball of entertaining energy! Why would you be sad if someone like that existed?? Shame on her!! 😡

I've only just more recently gotten around to listening to most of the DVD commentary tracks for many of the episodes (don't know what took so long) and while they definitely all pretty much like to gang up on and give Yvette a hard time when she's part of the record, Joel especially just mocks her mercilessly. With how often she's trying to just be sweet and earnest in what she's saying, it is hilarious how much crap everyone gives her. it's almost kinda like she's the Britta of the cast lol

It's a classic term from old school Hollywood. Several decades ago, when particular actresses had gotten up to like 50 years of age or older but whose body wasn't always as willing as the spirit, studio heads would make these women, if their breasts sagged too much naturally, they'd have to use a piece of construction paper to hold underneath them under the shirts to keep them up higher. The costume dept wouldn't allow the women to wear bras because they wanted to up the sex appeal as much as possible. So it was a card used to help combat your sag. A sag card. or none of that whatsoever is true.

They did all fit their characters well but only really Chevy praised them as actors who carried their characters mainly cos he disliked Dan harmon

Considering Joel and Jim were major factors in getting Harmon back, I think they knew how important a show runner can be.

@@someonefromsomewhere1009 It's both. The writers play on the casts' strengths as well. The cast also do bits of their own off-camera, which is how they build chemistry as written. They have lines taken from what they said on the set scribbled on the margins of their scripts. And Chevy said that line on a panel so he could say that the team was a step up for him. There's no need to take that negatively. They treated each other like regular co-workers would.
