this video is so, so helpful. i've been looking at this device for months and finally got it in my hands today. the user manual and doremidi "tutorials" are whack but you've actually provided a comprehensive lesson & it's much appreciated!! there's so little info available on this thing but you did a great job explaining it. i probably watched this vid 20x before purchasing and another 10x today. i'm using it with an Elektron Digitakt, which is great because note commands make the most sense to me, and the digitakt shows the note conversions on screen. i'm working on my first light setup and could not have done it without this video + your beginner's guide to DMX. you're an excellent teacher. Thanks so much Scott! xx
Thank you for this, I am just starting to get into DMX prior to looking at investing into lighting for a community theatre based in Thailand. "MIDI GIVES ME A HEADACHE" - actually having been a professional musician for 40 years and using no end of MIDI controllers, DAWS etc. it actually doesn't, but for DMX I am a complete beginner. I also use Qlab extensively so I can see the potential of this to send MIDI/DMX cues as well. I've watched a number of your videos in recent months and all have been very useful.
Midi gives me a headache dude this is so cool I have been setting all my lights individually to finally be able to control them all will make the shows look so pro!!
Scott, MIDI gives me a headache, however, it does offer a lot of goodness! Your video is once again awesomely done, you’ve been incredibly helpful. I’ve been using the Donner wireless system for a few years now and it’s worked flawlessly. I recently got a GigBar Move + ILS and after being disappointed with the controls, I ended up getting a WMX1 (i.e. Wolfmix MX1). While it’s really designed for DJs, I was able to use it for my bands last gig by setting up Presets, and using a column or row “trigger” to simulate chases. There’s a lot of goodness in the WMX1, and I understand they have a MX2 coming out with built in Midi. It may be something for you to look at at some point in the future for another level of control. Thanks again for your awesome videos, you’ve been a huge help and inspiration!
I have never messed around with any of this type of stuff but just watching your videos MIDI gives me a headache. However, when the day arrives where I need to start using MIDI, I know who I'm gonna call.
Oh man, MIDI gives me a headache, but thankfully my violin players does all of it in my group. We control our lights with a computer, but this little device could be of some use... Thanks Scott, as usual !
MIDI gives me a headache when it’s not consistent either 0-127 or 1-128. But I love MIDI. With my band I use Studio One for stereo backing tracks then a click track for us plus a MIDI track that transmits to a DMX controller for timed lights with our songs. This device would be nice because I could use a MIDI foot controller with another universe and trigger some special effects at will.
@@ScottUhlMusic I might consider one to consolidate a smaller setup even as I work in integrating a full sync'd lighting right with QLC+ on Windows being triggered from Ableton following some inspiration from one of your earlier automation videos. Quite the learning curve and setup...
MIDI gives me a headache, but somehow I'm still using it since 1986 and now I'm still running MIDI files on my live shows every weekend with inserting midi notes on channel 16 to control my DMX light show using FreeStyler DMX program. What am I going to do without MIDI? 😅😁
Midi gives me a headache! Also! Are we saying we can now have a simple light show programmed inside our stage traxx songs - drop midi notes on verse / chorus / bridge etc etc… 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hey Scott! Super helpful. I'm wondering about that amber dimmer. You don't ever turn it off right? So you push and release and it's set to 16. Then if you push the blue button, you're going to get amber and blue right? Just trying to understand how the Midi Captain and DoreMidi work together.
Hi Scott, thanks for the great videos👍👍. I’m using multi tracker, can it output midi via the lightning port (using cam kit) AT THE SAME TIME as audio from headphone Jack? TIA very much 🙏
Hey Scott, and whoever else is reading… I’m trying to move away from MacBook w/ Ableton and Lighting software, to iPad w/ Stagetrax 3. Is there anyway, from an iPad to create DMX “scenes” then have this device trigger them via midi commands baked into ST3 lyrics? That would be the final piece of the puzzle for me to have iPad have tracks, lyrics and a custom light-show. Anyone out there able to do this? Who can we get to make this tool? 🤔💡🎉
From stage Traxx you can send midi to the MTD device I talk about in this video to trigger scenes. I believe OnSong has DMX in it, but I dislike OnSong since it moved to a subscription model and had a lot of issues for me
@@ScottUhlMusic Hang on, you can trigger “scenes” with this device? It looked like all you could do was trigger single “rows” As in a single DMX channel command at a time… Am I missing something here? Are you able to group “rows” together to make a “scene” ( multiple lights with different settings with one midi cc ) ?
My lights can have “scenes” triggered via DMX. Not just Red/Green/Blue/etc. so if your lights can be triggered with different scenes with DMX, then this would work
Steve, congrats you actually won the giveaway! Check my post in my community tab to confirm, where I tagged you. Do not respond to scammers, I will not ask you for money, and notice the grey outline behind my name. Message me on Instagram or my website (links in the description) and I can get that to you. Thanks for following the channel!
2 questions: First, where has this device been? I have been trying a number of things to synch my lights to a midi track playing through Multitracker and this looks like it might be the answer! Second, it appears that by sending different cc values (0-127) it will change the intensity of the light? At least, that’s what it looks like when you sent two different values to the amber light. Thanks.
Was cautious about getting the device. Don’t mind complexity, but didn’t want flakiness. I did go ahead and buy it and with the help of your video (and experience with both MIDI and DMX), I was quickly able to get it working. I’m so excited to explore the new possibilities this will afford me!!
This is perfect. I've looked at that device and wasn't sure if it would do the trick. Now I know! I'd love to see a future video of you dialing in lights/ programming movement to one of your songs. I think that would be very insightful for designing a light show for beginners. MIDI gives me a headache, but Scott Uhl explains it really well so life is better now. Thanks Scott!
Our band runs sound and lights from stage. Currently using a tablet to control lights but a nice midi controller and this would be a great backup! But I’m no MIDI master and MIDI gives me a headache!!
Great video! Question: there are 3 columns on my MTD-1024 that I don't see any instructions in the manual for: "Fix | Fad | Tog" It goes: SN | DMX | Sta | Ctl | CH | En | Fix | Fad | Tog I assume they are "fixed, fade, and toggle" but I have no idea what values to put in there and there is nothing in my Venue tetra bar manual either. Thoughts?
Awesome product! Amazon wouldn't ship to my country in Europe, but I was able to order this directly from the manufacturer's website and get the unit in a week. Everything works flawlessly. Thank you Scott!
I just bought an Enntec usb pro dmx, but I wish i had knew of the DoreMidi option before T_T, It seems like it would be easier to integrate within a DAW-Backingtrack inear sync style. (enntec works great, but paying rent for the Emu software, or any software, is a dealbreaker for me. Also, programming midi is way easier than learning and setting QLC+ up, at least for now). any opinions about this?
I loved my Dmxis, but I won’t pay for a lighting software for a monthly fee. I’ll pay for it flat out, but not a monthly fee. I really don’t like that they went that route
A word of caution with upgrading the firmware on this device. I followed DoreMIDIs upgrade instructions and it left my device a worthless brick. Here is a link to a video showing the 'upgrade' to brick mode. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i3Qwfu7l3Jk.html Your mileage may vary but it did not work for me.
How do I set up in Ableton? why do I have the DOREMiDi MIDI To DMX Box(MTD-1024) but I don't know how to set it up I set up the DOREMiDi MIDI To DMX Box(MTD-1024) and the ableton the same but the lighting device does not respond eye I'm doing them without a midi device. l need help
Hello Scott and thanks again for your videos. I have set up my ADJ Controler with scenes and sequences that I have recorded on my Daw, I have exported the MIDI file and put it into Bbeat, and I output it through the ADJ, so the lights are working as programmed for me, thank you, thank you and thanks. The problem I find is that some rooms I go to already have LED spotlights, with different DMX configuration, I have the MIDI sequence configured as RGB and the Dimmer at 7, but the spotlights I find have, for example, 1Dimer, 5R6G7B . To avoid configuring the ADJ sequences for each occasion, is there any hardware that can change the DMX addresses that would enter the ADJ and take out the ones that I address? I hope I have explained myself, thank you very much in advance.
Glad that’s been working well for you! I do not know of anything that will change the DMX addresses though. If you find one, let me know. I’m definitely curious on something like that as well 🤘
Scott, thank you for what you do. You have literally change my life for the better. Would this work with midi Jack for wireless midi from iPad using Stage Traxx 3? Any way to program chase scenes?
Thank you! 🙏 I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the channel. And yeah it would work with the widi jack, and I personally don’t know how to program chases on this device though
Hi Scott - another great video and product. What MIDI Controller/keyboard do you use create a midi track in your DAW, and how is it cabled up? Does the DoreMidi box help/hurt? My goal is to set up my Nektar Impact MIDI keyboard to drive the DMX 384 controller which in turn both drives the light changes and also sends the MIDI info into my DAW (using Studio One 4.x at the moment). This works, but then the playback is not working. I literally have to reset the cabling to get the DAW to drive the DMX 384. Totally inefficient. I will pay for consulting if that is what needs to happen! Thx
If you are using a computer, then using some sort of lighting software would be easier than using this device imo. This is more for trigging lights without a computer
Great video! Thanks so much for putting this together @ScottUhlMusic ! Do you happen to know if I wanted to convert a MIDI signal to DMX signal to send to a Lightning Director so they can control the MIDI ran device using there DMX console, would the MTD-1024 by DoreMidi be the best way to go? Thank you so much for your time and help
Thanks! And this device is cool, but it’s definitely limited because it’s tough to do chases or anything like that with it. It’s better for loading scenes/presets/etc
"MIDI gives me a headache" Hey Scott I still use my trusty DMXIS and Behriner FBC 1010 Controller, But Iwill have to look into this as well Thanks agin for all your vids Very informative Great stuff Keep Rockin' 😎
I would buy it straight away! Quick question tho: for a certain DMX signal which would send out fades (I.E. Dimmers) and stuff like that via MIDI, would it be doable with an AfterTouch signal? If so: how would you set the unit for that to work properly? Otherwise which way would you recommend?
That I don’t know, I’m not sure how to program “fades” or “transitions.” I do that with DMXIS with midi out of Ableton personally. But I don’t know how to do it with this method
Hi Scott amazing video. I would like to ask, if it is possible to control the dimmer on the lights. For example if you have a live show with backing tracks and the lights are programmed to change to the music. You would program the lights in a daw export them and play the via cymatic audio or the M-Live B.Beat. I use the a Chauvet Obey 40 dmx controller live and it can not use the dimmer this way it is either 100% or 0%. Sorry for the confusing comment.
Looks like a nice piece of equipment if you want to program your lights with MIDI, but MIDI gives me a headache. With the Entec DMX USB Pro, you can connect it by USB to your computer and use software (free or paid) to design your scenes which may make it easier (depending on your lights/effects).
Great video...is it possible to use in conjunction with MIDI sent by a computer (from Logic for example)? or for the sake of sanity is better to have the lights controlled by a foot switch separated from the computer? I know MIDI always gives me a headache...
Hey, I just noticed something. Is it possible that the manufacturer is pronounced Do - Re - Mi dee? I suddenly realized their name looks like solfège. I came back to re-watch the video so I could refer back to the lighting video and it just clicked when I saw the name. Kind of a weird coincidence if it's not.
Don't know if this is perfect or worst timing. I just finished setting up my Helix to control qlc+ and change scenes and chases for my pop punk band. However I am programming some pretty complex scenes that follow the music and have fades and all that
Great video! I invested in the ODE MKIII by Entec and it's great and all, but it gives me a headache as much as MIDI gives me a headache. I would probably be better off with the device you showed off.
This is me waiting for you to do a video with this device and having Stage Traxx 3 be the midi controller - and also...man does MIDI gives me a headache....
Midi gives me a headache! Do you not still need a DMX controller to set the scenes / colors. How do the lights know that red is CC101 or whatever? There has to be some dmx controller/lighting mixer between dosen't there?
Hey Scott, i was wondering if this would be possible to do using the stage traxx 3 and widi master? I would love to be able to have a light show going along with my backing tracks and midi commands to my helix.
Hmm... good question, I actually don't know. I've just used it with the 5pin MIDI. I would reach out and ask, that's a good question! I don't know why I didn't think of that.
