*It just shows how stupid knife laws are.* *With or without the spring it's the same knife once it's open.* *Not sure how it's somehow more dangerous with a spring.* *Not that criminals will follow the law anyway, they will stab you with a 9 inch long kitchen knife from Walmart.* *Regarless of what the law says about blade lenght, fixed blade, conceal carry etc ...*
JoeDurobot it's about intimidation. Kinda like how a lot of people want to ban AR-15's and not other guns that fire the same rounds at similar speeds. Automatic knives make people feel uncomfortable for whatever reason. People tend to fear what they don't understand.
*Someone waving a big ass kitchen knife at me makes me uncomfortable, yet it's not illegal to own in any state.* *Even in countries like the UK with very strick laws big ass knives are legal.*
JoeDurobot the UK has a length ban for carry knives but sale of knives over that limit are allowed e.g kitchen knives. I do agree criminals would not follow this law however it's harder to conceal a giant arse kitchen knife.
In Canada and probably some states the laws were actually written when automatic stilettos and butterfly knives were the only knives the you could open with one hand and they saw one handed opening dangerous. A few years later Spyderco put the hole in their blades to open them one handed and its just evolved from there.
Maybe someone commented on this. It looks like the spring acts as the bushing on that side of the blade not pivoting on the scale. I think something would have to be added to provide that support, such as a stack of bushings.
Even if other knife laws remain more or less unchanged, gravity knife legislation (especially the "centrifugal force" clause) needs to be thrown off the books with extreme prejudice. Almost any common folding knife can open by "centrifugal force" if you try hard enough. Gravity knife legislation has done nothing for society besides easy pay days for bored NYC cops. At the expense, of course, of the otherwise innocent but extremely unlucky stop-and-frisk recipient in the blue-collar neighborhood.
Hi Jeff, just wanted to let you know, since you stated at the beginning of the video you don't want to do anything illegal, based on the legal definition in NY: ...any knife which has a blade which is released from the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever or other device. This is still considered a gravity knife, which would make it illegal.
Actually if you read some of the news articles online, you will find that the police do arrest people when they are able to flick the knives out. NY is pretty messed up with it's knife laws. if you just do a random search, you can find plenty of cases where people are trying to amend the laws, but keep on failing.
Springs are bad...no springs are bad....screw it all knives are bad!!!!!!! careful or they might ban hockey next...all those people skating around on illegal blades
If you never planned on making it automatic again i could have ground down the end of the spring that corresponds with the hole in the blade to take up the space between the handle and the blade so that it was supported and not running on the inside of the knife handle. Or made a bushing with a washer.
URGENT NOTE TO VIEWERS. Do NOT do this modification to your Kalashnikov. The spring prevents the blade from slamming into the backspacer of the knife. Closing this knife with gravity is very fun, HOWEVER, without the spring, the blade will hit the backspacer and leave a HUGE knick in the blade. Reprofiling is the only remedy.
Unless a law changed in the last 5 years since I stopped working at a police station and moved from NY that knife is still illegal. A push button knife operated by gravity or inertia is illegal. It has to be operated by a thumb stud fixed to the blade.
If that was true then half the locks out there would be considered a gravity knife since the blade can swing open or closed freely once disengaged like the axis lock or compression lock ect...button lcosk are legal thats all were creating here by removing the spring...
*I'm curious to know if Jeff included the spring or not when shipping the knife to that dude.* *Would have been funny if he didn't because it was kind of a dick move to have the knife shipped there, expecting Jeff to break the law by sending it to NY, and pay for the shipping.* *All that with no warning or prior contact.*
Yo Jeff I have been watching your videos for years now bro. you are what got me loving knifes and i thank you for that. but in all that time i have never actually sharpend one using a sharpening stone. so if I could make only one request is if you could make a video or a few videos on how you do it or the different ways it could be done. thanks in advance my friend.
LoneWolfEddy Bonilla it's because of the movies in the sixties portraying stilettos as more deadly than any other knife because it opens "quickly" even though my CS Spartan opens 10x faster.
Im in PA as well and as far as I have found on the internet, it is legal to carry a balisong as well as own it. Am I overlooking something? Everywhere I checked says I can edc a bali, are you just somewhere where it is not legal in PA?
balisongs and automatic knives are illegal to carry anywhere in PA accept one county I cant eve thin of where someone went to court to say their balisong is not a gravity knife and won...If you look at state law for PA you will find it in the weapon section clearly stated as well as every reference site for knife law also shows the same PA means no autos and no balisongs...I also think they mention daggers (meaning double edges blades) but the fact is most cops dont even know this and whatever knife you carry is NEVER an issue unless your stopped and searched by the cops...If you are not breaking the law there is no reason to be stopped and searched
well kind of.. look at double-action OTF knives.. its more of a slide then a push button.. and most of them are expensive, i.e. ultratech, troodon, scarab etc.
Besides the spring acting as a bushing so the blade doesnt wobble, when you depress the button and hold it until blade closes it some times hits the inside stud and damages the blade edge. Cool mod at first but not worth it.
The blade also hits the spacers if you swing it closed like an axis lock with the button pressed. You have to release the button before you completely close it to avoid that.
Jeff, I believe in New York you are also not allowed to have a locking knife. Also here in Florida you can open carry anything, or concealed carry with a CWL.
i live in europe..and i want to buy a benchmade 940 but prices here are crazy...got any tips? second hand..where i live if pretty limited for benchmade knives
Great video. I’ve got the the same knife, the problem is when I unscrew the top screw the female pivot turns as well. I’ve tried to hold it but still turns. Anyone got any ideas. Really need to get cover off. ☹️
Probably not leagal here in Australia ether. I have an auto comb and a butterfly comb. Good thing too cos the amount of times the comb hits my hand is more than I'd like to admit
That's funny man, I just commented on one of your videos about 2 bokers that I sent to blade ops and they made them full auto for me, cause I got em from budk un auto...
here in Colorado all knives are legal to own but if you were caught carrying a switch blade you would get a heavy fine they are now finally getting around to repealing the switch blade ban law hopefully they pass the resolution to repeal it.
Michael Cashin online or hobby shops, for alot of information you can watch one of the videos from Nick Shabazz where he shows what he uses to disassemble knives including the drivers.
I need to know where i can get a Un Automat.. (like is being done here).. anything with a spring Australian Customs seize them and u end up in trouble... any help greatful... XL AK Black... with tanto and cerrated blade if available by Boker.... cheerss... luv the channel.. 😎
www.knifecenter.com/item/BOKALS74B/boker-plus-automat-kalashnikov-74-folding-knife-black-combo-blade-od-aluminum-handles-not-an-automatic idk if they ship to Australia but here There are different versions on the website too
Yep gotta do this soon before I get caught with a automatic knife. I got 2 knives. Manual folder and automatic but the folder is basically a grand father style. And the automatic is more tatical
The laws here is Kansas used to be very strange., but now, they are just a little strange. The only limitation now is that throwing stars remain illegal. It used to be, I could conceal carry a gun places where my pocket knife could be illegal. The new law is more permissive, though it was amended after someone noticed the legislature forgot to make it preemptive throughout the state. The laws are one thing, but the case law really tells you where the problem areas are. Here, I would be on better legal ground defending myself with a gun than with a knife. Knives still cause a great deal of fear.
This is a waste of time. You can open it like a manual, just push the button and hold the spring tension back when you pull the blade out. Just don’t be flicking it out in front of people and they’ll never know. Good video on how to de auto tune it but otherwise useless.
I was being sarcastic....arms doesn't only cover guns it covers knives too, instead of crying about knives being illegal do something about it. Fight for you right to bear arms and get those laws changed
Unless one is presenting a problem, no one, or cop, is really going to care if the knife in your pocket contains a spring. Police have too much on their plates as it is.
I did this to mine when my states law changed from legal to own but not carry to total illegal, same knife but in the black bowie toxic green configuration.
So we can't have automatic knives in Canada. However, we can legally carry a short sword as long as we can justify its use isn't for self defense (we can't defend ourselves here). But we cannot carry or possess an automatic knife. Makes zero sense.
I have been carrying a Boker Magnum automatic for 25 years without anyone caring and will continue to carry one. No one cares if you aren't a menace to society.
Ok well first I have to ask this question wy the hell would you Wana do that??? I mean I could definitely see wanting to do it the other way around turn into an automatic switchblade knife but anyway I have a Milwaukee fastback3 folding knife it has a button lock on it so can I possibly convert it into an automatic??? Pleas let me no and if possible if anyone has one as well if they could make a video on turning one into an automatic knife is be really fucking happy with hew ever would do it thank you
It's too tricky to reassemble for me to fool with it. I cannot reassemble the springS mechanisms (there are 2) and I built models and RC aircraft as a kid and work on electric guitars. Some knives are too complicated and tricky to reassemble and this is one. Kershaw SpeedSafes are fine and I like them (OSO and LEEK), but this one is not worth fooling with any more. My view is the design is not for any normal or handy guy.
If autos are illegal where you live and you want a boker just order one from a Canadian retailer and you get the non auto version that isn't even milled out for the spring. mind you they suck balls and unless the pivot is cracked as tight as it goes theres insane amounts of blade play so you either can't open the knife or you live with blade play
If I brought this www.extac.com.au/boker-plus-strike-drop-point-pocket-knife And this www.bladeops.com/Replacement-Springs-Boker-Mini-Kalashnikov-Auto-p/bspring-mini.htm Would It be already milled out so I can chuck the spring in there and so it would be auto or is it not that simple?
