Wicked build! Fun fact: Surly used the blueprints for this design for their Big Dummy cargo bike, so if you ever need a replacement rear deck or rear bars then you can buy the Surly branded ones and they will fit just fine.
Really interesting challenge of a project. I had no idea such kits existed. Lots of little problems to solve. I would have given up. Great work. The fact that it is electric really adds to the usability for hauling cargo.
Cheers mate ! Ya it was a lot harder than I thought, wasn’t expecting it to be that hard but got there in the end. The e kit really makes it a breeze to ride ! Can carry cargo no worries. Thank you 🙏😊
No joke. I bought one way back after they dropped, and it didn’t fit my dropouts so I moved it back to the store really fast. Gutted! Always pays to do homework first…
Well done with the disc brakes and organising all those cables. I'd have just joined 2 new chains together and I love how you mounted the battery. Very elegant. I have a swytch kit waiting for me back home in the UK which I'm going to use for my wife's bike, can't wait to see how it goes.👍
Hell ya sounds good ! Thank you yeah getting all the cables nice and neat and deciding how they should be routed took a little bit , but worth it in the end. Cheers !!
I woke up this morning, it’s a free sunny day off for me and a new garys project comes along my way…couldn’t be a better start☺️and surprise, it’s an „extra“-special one😉really enjoyed starting that way and impressed how this project turned out to be very cool and customized🌟😎but no wheelies with this one…unfortunately😉Cheers mate, enjoy your build and riding it😃
Nice one dude 🤙 looks sweet! I was going to suggest grabbing an old handlebar and drilling two holes in it to fit the canti mounts so you could mount the Swytch but then you went and discovered that awesomeness 😂🤯
Thank you mate! Haha yes the cantis worked out well! I couldn’t believe it actually lined up with no work. Lucked out that one! Saved me some hacking 😂😂 cheers !!
Noice! My english teaching wife and myself think that you are onto a new word; "clumbersome" 🤙. You def need some "Gary's Project Clumbersome" stickers 😅.
That came out rad !... there is a really cool video here on RU-vid I think it's called the evolution of an American Cargo bike or something like that... well it's about the guy (Ross?) who invented that bolt-on apparatus called xtracycle....and the story behind it...pretty cool man, thanx for sharing !
Nice build. I would love something similar for cruising around with my kiddo. Also, I've never heard someone use the word "chuck" as much as you lol. Had to have said "chucked it on" at least like 50 times in this vid.
Nice bike. The BB5 comes stock with v brake spacers above and below the holes for the bolt. They use the smaller v brake spacer pair for all 4 places. I think aligning it would be a bit easier if you had spacers on top as well (maybe google an image, hard to explain).
Thank you ! Yes I ended up doing that , might have gotten lost in the Voice over - you can see how it is in the end of the video when I lift up the bag to show the brakes ! Cheers !!
You should make a video showing how you transport your bike in and out of the elevator. Maybe give some tips for people living in apartment/flats/condos.
That is Sweet, The double stand on RadWagon is very handy when the bike is loaded. Too bad the Frt wheel mover doesn't have regen. Regen & low power mode give me triple the advertised range.
that rear brake caliper is supposed to have those spacers the way you ended up. I've installed quite a few of them in my time and that's how they come in the package, so you can get it perfectly aligned even if your mounts are tweaked out.
Great build, it would be great to see how it handles loaded up. Given the rise of cargo bikes I don't understand why they're not still knocking them out 👍
Thank you Glenn ! Will do that soon , can’t wait to use it to pick up bikes / bike parts ! I read that making them cost as much as making a whole cargo bike so they decided just to make the whole cargo bike
When you go from 1% to 2%, it would be factually doubling in numbers, but it’s still a tiny fraction of consumers (at least across the world). The Dutch are of course the outliers.
Hey dude, nice video as always! I am currently upgrading my old city bike frame and you videos are always a great source of information and motivation. I was wondering if you have any experience or tips on working with thompson pressfit bbs? It's kind of hart to find videos on them. Thank you!
Cheers mate I appreciate that!!! They don’t sell the attachment anymore but you can can find them secondhand for about 100-400 ish depending on the model and condition
Thank you ! Ya it’s pretty old I guess, and they don’t make them anymore unfortunately. Nice ! I heard big dummys were pretty good. These are blygo moto bars !
Waddup gary. Your vids are great. When you use the rust converter do you not have to cover it with a primer or something? Or do you just cover the formerly rusty spots once clean and it keeps it rust proof for a while, no paint needed?
@@garysprojects definitely thinwall highgrade steel. You can easily check the difference on the welds. Thick stacked little coin welds is aluminum and fine often more messy welds is steel.
You said aluminum but it must be steel if it has rust. The brake mounts might be for a U-brake style. No step also means to not stand on that and put your weight on that part.
Quick question Gary, Stripped bolt whilst taking apart a pedal. Whats a tried and true quick and dirty hack? No dremel here but I think I have jb weld...thanks
