This video is about a year in the making as I inadvertently forgot filming it. :) But here is how and why I converted Mordor Uruk-Hai from a box of Isengard Uruk-hai scouts.
lovley video mate, very inspiring, i had the same idea and decided to RU-vid if anybody had done it, perfect kit for conversions, converting can be really satisfying as well. excited to play the cirith ungol legion.
Thanks, you are too kind. I think that Kit bashing is my favourite hobby activity- I prefer it to painting. The CU LL is defo a fun one. Drop me some pics of your kit bashes if you like: windrushwargamers@gmail.com would love to see them.
@@windrushwargamers2745Yep, coat out of greenstuff, and repositioning the arms into a sword down to the side pose. I have some ideas for changing Dwalin's pose, and giving Kili his bow, but need some further thinking.
@@windrushwargamers2745 just finished my "gundabad orcs" (moranon orcs and uruk-hai kitbashed with one upgrade kit from FW) Now working on converting grimhammers to dwarves of the Iron hilld
Thanks! I don't currently have one. I was thinking of making an Instagram or perhaps creating a gallery site. I will link it if I make it. We have a discord which we are trying to grow. If you join I could fire some stills in there :) discord.gg/Gz3dawMq
@@windrushwargamers2745 Old metal Ghazkull Thraka, but after I am done with him I'll probably start on a metal troll chieftain and the regular Mordor metal troll. Took me a while to get them for a decent price haha.
I have a couple of tips, just general things really: 1. If you roll out the greenstuff thin and let it cure for about 20-40 mins it will be less tacky and slightly easier to work with- this should work well for fabric 2. I saw a tip where if you use a small amount of super glue to adhere the GS to the model it means you can focus on working with sculpting the rest as it is less likely to become separated. I guess for capes it would need to be glued at the neck or shoulders. 3. If you roll it out - you can curt the basic shape out with a hobby knife before applying to the model. 4.I use a little cooking oil on m tools so they don't stick, some people use Vaseline or hand lotion- all good. Just wipe it off when the GS is cured before painting 5. Lastly. I use a mixture of 'dental tools' and soft tipped clay shapers. I normally start with the hard tools and finish off with the clay shapers. I am not the best at sculpting by any means but I hope these help. It is a difficult skill and like with anything putting the hours in helps. I need to practice more to improve. If all else fails then you can always buy some capes - 3D prints or third party reasonably. Thanks.
@@windrushwargamers2745 Thanks man! I truly appreciate your advice and time. I got back into the hobby way back when the Lord of the Rings movie came out. And have been really practicing technique Re washes, blending, shading…I’m way far out from expert level and will be for a long time. So watching you guys really inspire me to step outside the box. Lately I’ve been into conversions. Minas Tirith Warriors, Uruk-Hai…so again I really appreciate you taking the time to go thru the steps. I’ll let you know how they turn out. I look forward to your next video. Thanks Joe
@@williampowell6067 You're welcome mate. I would definitely say that I am not an expert in anything either. I just throw lots of stuff at the all and see what sticks really :) That's how I learn anyway. Feel free to email some work in-progress pics over to windrushwargamers@gmail.com or search for us in Discord and then you can chuck some photos in the WIP channel. All the best, Joe
@@windrushwargamers2745 excellent man! Thanks again. I’ll send some pics. I appreciate the email address. And i look forward to seeing more of your work. Joe
Hi, I don't have one right now. I could make one. I have a few ideas. Either re-capping the conversions I have done previously (the Cirith Ungol Orcs with scavenged Minas Tirith Armour, or my Angmar orc conversions). Another idea might be converting the orcs from the rings of power. The orcs were one of the few things I liked about it. Does any of that appeal? what are you working on right now?
@@windrushwargamers2745 Not at the moment no, but I'm always impressed how a few simple changes really change a minatures over all appearance especially once paint is applied. I've got a few projects on the go too lotr stuff warmaster too and at some point I want to build a chaos spacemarines force from all the loyalist bits and bobs I have lying around or a 30k traitors force undecided yet.
@@mattygee37 Exactly- most of the time it is just about changing the miniatures silhouette. Very cool, will they be a custom heretic chapter or one of the 9?
@@windrushwargamers2745 Might go Nightlords as I like their gothic horror look and they really are bad lads. Lots of potential for conversion and decorative gore .
@@mattygee37 I Love a bit of Night lords here mate! They are my favourite Chaos faction by far. I made a couple of videos on them if you were interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mUxOYCwMX1E.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-omjDTG4j_8U.html. The last one is a bit of a slog but it might be okay to skim through.
