Auto Torque Biasing diffs are awesome. I had a set front and rear on my Defender 110 and it was damn near unstoppable. IMO they’re perfect for a touring rig as it’s all mechanical and no 12v or airlines to leak. You wouldn’t have to stop and engage lockers, you’d just crawl up near any track. If you have a rig with traction control it would enhance the traction control as well as it tap the brakes for a wheel slipping and multiple the torque to the wheel with all the traction. It took all the backlash out of the driveline and felt super tight to drive with no perceptible steering feel.

It would be good if speedmaster/at racing world would actually help when trying to install one of these in the front of a landcruiser. They simply say “can’t be done” Despite being a Hilux centre, they say can only be put in the back of a Hilux. Now, I understand that the gears simply need to be swapped side to side in the centre, but they will not supply torque settings nor will they supply information about reducing preload

Any chance of getting a link to old mates FB or Workshop details? i blew a diff and axels on the way to Cooper Pedy and ended up having to buy a second hand diff housing, Diff and Axels all because my mechanic didn't install my wheel baring correctly. ( according to the mechanic in Port Augusta ) And I'd be interested in buying a complete set up from old mate and have it shipped to Tassie. Another question, would that gear oil be any good for a gearbox?

Three years in, what's your experience been with the Speedmasters?? I'm very eager to put them into my UZJ100 (not so much for soft sand, more for snow and ice).

Thanks Duncan, I love watching a craftsman at work. Master class right there! I reckon your diffs will be fine but I still think something else is wrong to cause the problem. Plenty of 4 ton cruisers touring on original diffs.

That was a great vid. Good stuff, hopefully no more diffs. Did he install solid spacer or crush sleeve in the diffs? Having a heavy rig will obvious put more stress on pretty much everything. What impact would be felt by the diff centre if the housings were flexing at all under the extra load? Your feedback on the new diffs after a few months on and off road would make for a great follow up vid

Great video mate very informative.on another note I heard you also broke a tie rod , did it snap or was it worn ? And did you upgrade it with something stronger as I’m planning on doing a lot of coro travelling with a similar weight cruiser
