It's a loophole. They were trying to get him for 'falsifying business records to the first degree', which is a case of 'falsifying business records to the second degree' where the fraudulent record was made as part of a larger conspiracy, whether committing, aiding, or concealing another crime. Even if the jurors didn't agree on what the other crime was, they all agreed that he committed another crime, so despite the lack of unanimity in the finer details, the jury was unanimous on Trump being guilty of 'falsifying business records to the first degree'. The other crime doesn't matter, there doesn't even have to be another crime (there obviously wasn't one) as long as the jury was 'convinced'. That loophole needs to be filled in, and it's easy to do so. I'm honestly surprised it even exists. The law in that regard _should be_ that in order for 'falsifying business records to the second degree' to be brought up to 'falsifying business records to the first degree', the defendant must either already be on trial for the other crime, or must subsequently go on trial for the other crime after being charged with 'falsifying business records to the first degree'. If the defendant is not found guilty of the other crime, 'falsifying business records to the first degree' cannot stick as is, and must either be dropped entirely, brought down to second degree, or retrialed as 'falsifying business records to the second degree'. 'Falsifying business records to the second degree' is a misdemeanor.

It will be overturned. How could he influence the election if the falsifying business records occurred between Febuary to December 2017.

I have noticed that in the thousands of comments about this all over the Internet - those celebrating Trump’s conviction do not understand what he was convicted of. That includes the main stream media. Virtually everyone who does understand is outraged by the injustice.
