On the weekend of September 14-15, 2013, the Conway Scenic Railroad held their annual railfans' weekend. We capture the events on Saturday including a passenger extra to Hazens with Maine Central painted GP35 216 and GP38 252, a freight extra with newly acquired ex Finger Lakes GP9 1751, the regular valley trains with ex CN 0-6-0 7470 making a rare run to Bartlett, maroon and gold F7 4266 on the Valley train to Bartlett and the regular dinner train with GP7 573.
We start off the day with the 7470 emerging from the roundhouse just before 0900. At 0915, the "Day White Mountains" Passenger Extra departs for Mountain Junction where it will reverse direction and head east down the Mountain Division to the boarding location at Depot Street. At 1000, a freight extra, with some great looking equipment and New York Central painted GP9 1751, departs for Bartlett. We catch the freight extra at Glen and Cooks Crossing with the passenger extra following about twenty minutes behind. At Bartlett, the passenger extra passes the freight alongside the former MEC freight house as the freight waits to run around his train.
We head back down to the field at Glen to catch Valley Train no. 11 with the 7470 chugging west, shooting him again at Cooks and Rogers Crossing. Upon no. 11's arrival at Bartlett, the freight extra departs eastbound as we catch him again at Glen. Valley train no. 20 follows shortly after as we see him tender-first emerging from the trestle at Woodland Pines. Next, we head down the former B&M Conway Branch, shooting both the freight and the Valley train at Moat Brook trestle, then the returning Valley train at West Side Road. At North Conway, #7470 was swapped for F7A 4266 and GP7 573, both in maroon and gold colors, for the next run to Bartlett. We catch them coming out of another trestle at Glen, then running around the train at Bartlett, and the return trip as train no. 30 at Glen and Intervale with the 573 leading. The 7470 was put back on the train at North Conway as we return to the Conway branch, shooting him across the field along West Side Road with Moat Brook trestle visible again. For the return, we get yet another trestle shot as train no. 31 chugs west back to North Conway. A power swap was made again at North Conway as GP7 573 tied on for the dinner train run to Bartlett. We end with a shot of the dinner train in the last light of the day at Intervale, then with the sun completely gone at Glen.
