On this day in 1961 {July 6th} Conway Twitty performed "The Next Kiss (Is the Last Goodbye)" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... Three months earlier on April 11th, 1961 the song peaked at #72 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and it spent four weeks on the Top 100... Between 1957 and 1976 the Mississippi native had nineteen Hot Top 100 records, three made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "It's Only Make Believe", for two weeks in 1958... Besides "It's Only Make Believe", is other two Top 10 records were both 'Boy' records, "Danny Boy" {#10 for 1 week in 1959} and "Lonely Blue Boy" {#6 for 1 week in 1960}... And on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart from 1966 to 1993 he had seventy-eight entries, sixty-three made the Top 10 with thirty-five reaching #1, plus eight more peaking at #2... Plus in duets with Loretta Lynn, he charted twelve more times with five peaking at #1... Conway Twitty, born Harold Lloyd Jenkins, passed away at the young age of 59 on June 5th, 1993...
