With MEATER’s Cook Estimator, you’ll know how long it takes for that steak, chicken, etc. to cook before it’s ready to come off of heat to rest. Here are key points to remember about your estimated cook time to nail those target temps:
• Let the meat come up to room temperature.
• The estimated cook time will appear when the internal temperature has increased ~16°F/8°C.
• Low and slow cooking helps with a more accurate estimated cook time. Plus, you'll get juicier results. ;)
• Keep a consistent ambient cooking temperature.
• The estimator does not account for the “stall” when cooking large cuts of meat.
• Remove from heat when instructed, even if it may seem under target.
- The algorithm takes into account “carryover cooking” during the resting period.
• Rest on a cool plate, rack, or cutting board and do not wrap.
- If you must wrap, know the algorithm doesn’t account for wrapping, so you may want to set a lower target temperature to avoid overcooking.
Can’t wait to see all of your droolworthy creations on social media. Happy fooding!
Let’s meat up!

For some reason my MEATER+ changed its cook time when I was smoking a Tri tip it went from 40 minutes left to 1 hour 15 minutes then 2 hours? Please help me understand what I’m doing wrong

Well done once again guys. This is brilliant and covers a lot of the questions (problems) that people have and always blame the meater as being rubbish. I've favourited this video to use in replies on the Meat n Greet group.

👍😋😋 the only thing missing in the app. is the weight!!!! if this is added. then the algorithm will be able to make an even better estimate, between a thin (small in weight) or thick piece of meat
@garryhammond3117
@garryhammond3117 Год назад
This is very informative. - But! - I have a suggestion... In setting up the cook, you have already gathered a lot of information on the product to be cooked (you could also ask for weight or thickness - this would really help with the calculation algorithm). With this additional information, why not recommend a "cook temperature" to guarantee the best quality cook (depending on the cook method)? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Meater! - Cheers!

The weight etc is not really needed by the algorithm because no matter what size it is the temp rise will be fely - slower for large meats and quicker for small.

If when it's resting it hits the temperature ahead of the timer do I then sear? I cooked some pork today and it had gone below the target temp but the timer said I needed to keep it resting? Should I be ignoring the timer and just paying attention to the temp?
@MEATER
@MEATER 6 месяцев назад
We find that MEATER works best with the reverse-sear method, which we do in almost all of our videos! To do this, we recommend setting your target temperature 10°F lower, and after your steak is done resting, you can remove the probe and sear on high heat about 1 minute each side.

Anyone know how to shut the alert off for estimated cook
@jasonochs8814
@jasonochs8814 4 месяца назад
You can disable app notifications on your phone, but you might miss important alerts. There are notification categories you can try to limit whats alerting. The updates for estimated cooking is tied to other alerts. There is an alert thats enabled in each cook, but you can't disable it. This is a really frustrating thing because you can either have the app send too many notifications or not enough.

Someone please tell me how to turn off the cook algorithm. I just want it to alarm me to pull my meat when it hits my desired temperature. The algorithm is never correct when I'm cooking low and slow.

The app doesn't have a whole beef tenderloin -- which I would like to add by weight. I didn't check this before cooking, thinking it would automatically be on the app, and my meat came out raw when using the regular temperature even though I inserted it into the largest portion of the meat. I never did get an "estimated cook time" like I did with my turkey. Was really disappointed with this.

Has anyone had the estimated cook time take over 45 minutes to get results
@MEATER
@MEATER 3 месяца назад
The MEATER generates your cook time from the internal and ambient readings, as well as the rate the internal temperature rises at the start of the cook, so you don't have to worry about inputting the weight of the meat in the app. The internal temperature needs to increase about 8°C for the probe to gather enough data, and this can take some time, especially with really big pieces of meat. The ambient sensor also has to reach passed your target temperature. The estimate can also take longer to appear if the cook is canceled and restarted, or if there are major temperature fluctuations causing the cook time to keep recalculating.

Hey Meater, let's talk about a sponsorship. I don't know how to cook meat, been vegan 15 years but I'm considering ending my vegan diet. I would love a thermometer and would be willing to do a review, my other YT I have 6800 subs and would gladly have a "check out meater" on all my new videos for a set amount of time. Just think of the publicity this could bring where you have a product so good if turns vegans back to eating meat.

So let's get this straight. You have an algorithm which takes information that it has gathered from the probe along with the cook you tell it you are going to perform and yet your algorithm can't approximately adjust, even remotely, how long a cook might take since there is going to be a stall? That sounds like a garbage algorithm TBH. Honestly I've never been more disappointed in a BBQ tool than I am with this product. Anyone who thinks they are going to get a premium product that is worth the money they are spending is wrong. The only thing this product use to have going for it was the probes were wireless but there are plenty of knock offs available now that will honestly probably disappoint you the same for less money. Don't even get me started on the abysmal connections of my 4+ block, and yes I'm well within range at about 35ft with only a back door in the way and no my GMG smoker is not "thick walled." The wifi/cloud connection is barely adequate when compared to 3 other wifi probe setups I have and the Bluetooth from the distance I'm at just constantly loses connection and blows up my phone only to conveniently reconnect as soon as I check it. I'd also love to know why probes can't charge while the block is on? ::sigh:: Rant over.

Requiring an account to use this renders it useless

What this didn’t tell us is the whether the estimated time remaining includes resting time, or if that’s added after the timer counts down, and then it’ll be longer. So…. When do we start cooking the veggies so they aren’t raw or overcooked? And if we are reverse searing to get a final temp of 135 internal, I would normally pull at around 120, rest it for 15 min, then sear it until it hits temp. You mentioned “low and slow” folllowed by reverse sear, but does the app account for that? Wouldn’t you need to input steak thickness as well? I was surprised my app didn’t ask about that. So far, my Meater plus is kinda neat, but my trust level is nearly zero on the data and the cook time function is why I bought this, even already having the thermoworks alternative. I was hoping for this to be smarter, but really it seems to be missing some critical “no brainer” settings.

The app will give you your "estimated cook time" and "resting time" separately

@@MEATER thanks for the quick reply! So when I start a cook and it says my steak is estimated at 45 min cook time. That’s how long until I pull it to rest, then I add on whatever I want for rest time and cook time separately? And is there any way to calibrate these probes for temp? I don’t see one

Hey Tray! The MEATER Original/Plus ranges up to 33-165ft in open air however some appliances with thicker walls may decrease the range when you close the lid/door. A few things to keep in mind, please be sure to keep the charging base next to the probe(s) in use. If you use tin foil for you cook, we also recommend that you poke a hole for the probe to peak through! An alternative to extend your range even further is MEATER Link! The amazing part about it is that you can monitor your cook from anywhere! If you're interested, please check out this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iP0mt7IcAoM.html

This tool does not work. It takes well over 20 minutes to give you a cooking time and then can be wildly inaccurate. Mulitiple attempts to get customer service failed as badly as the thermometer. A waste of money, sadly.
