went to the store, was gonna buy a 50 lb2 lady Jasmin rice. didn't read the bag, and got gluttonous sweet rice instead and now I'm here to learn how to make it myself so I don't waste it...( had it before its delicious)

How can you tell if your strainer is safe to cook with? Are they all made to withstand heat? Or could it might have some kind of toxic coating (ie Teflon etc) ? Is there anyone who can explain at least how to tell what kind of metal it is?

Stainless steel is good Some are nylon or plastic mesh and have plastic rim and handle,they will melt or shrink with the heat

It is flavored by the Thai food you put on top or side later. You want the simple plain pure flavor of good Asian sweet rice only . It’s different than regular rice or south Asian cooking of rice .

I used a strainer to cook one quarter cup of basmati rice but the rice is hard and dry. Do you know why? Am I using too little rice? Thanks for the video.

You cannot use Basmati rice to make Thai sticky rice. If you want to cook Basmati, I suggest you use a rice cooker.

Sticky rice or best known as glutinous rice.

Normal rice is different from sticky rice. Another name for sticky rice is call glutinous rice.

Yes, you are right, it is easy with rice basket,.But this way is easier for me too, since my kitchen storage is not much .And I don’t cook sticky rice every day.
