Good stuff mate. Love the nickname 'bush prawn' haha I've been wanting to try cicadas for a while. I'll have to do it before summer's over. So you don't eat the head?

They taste ok. Just eat the bums . Some will have a white meat in them . Some are hollow. Good protein as well. 👍🇦🇺

I really want to try them too!! Problem is, I live in north east Wisconsin... no periodical cicada broods :(

I`ve eaten them here in Louisiana, USA. Fried them crispy in bacon grease and sprinkled them with Cajun seasoning.

That sounds good. I might have to try that.👍🇦🇺🍺

@@Australian_Outdoor_man I had no idea Australia had cicadas. Our black widow spider is nearly identical to the redback spider there and we do have a marsupial here too, the Opossum. Strange, eh?

This is awesome, thanks for sharing how to prepare and cook cicadas. Who would have thought they hold the same amount of protein as beef!

for those of us who love Mexican food, please make a bush tucker taco. there's gotta be a way to make a tortilla and put some cicadas in there.

When I cooked up some cicadas a few years ago they had somewhat of a shrimpy texture (the meat), the flavor wasn't appealing unless you had seasoned it with salt, garlic, etc. Boiling was worse.

simplest recipe yet. Been eating them occasionally for 30 years. In good years, I freeze some for Halloween alternative with candy, and they always go fast, even to parents.

I had no idea cicadas grew so big. I’d be willing to try them without the wings and the head.

Many ways to cook and eat them stir fry with noodles, fry in peanut oil and put in salad, stuff in a jalapeno pepper breaded and fried, make Navajo Taco's with fried cicada's. I've made at least 30 dishes with them not counting desserts! You eat the whole cicada!

We are expecting a record bunch of Cicadas here in North Carolina. I have been eating bugs for a while as well as my Scout troop. After frying do you take the wings as well as the legs off. If you eat the whole thing does the upper body take away from the peanut taste.??? I found grasshoppers as well as scorpions to be very tasty.

I've heard of people collecting them at night just as they emerge from their shells and soft all over. Then basically prepare exactly as you did and then eat the entire thing. Have you ever done them this way?

I haven't tried that. Very interesting method. Thank you Chapter 4 Travel. 👍

I just can't get over the psychological aversion to eating a bug. It's silly I realize it, and I guess if I was starving I would devour them, but until then, I'll stick to beef and chicken!
