These videos on Cubana cooking are terrific. I wish I had made videos of my parents/grandparents cooking before they died. Now all that knowledge is lost. I love trying different cuisines and know little to nothing of Cuban cuisine, so this is great!

Malanga is Cocoyam aka Taro just a different variety but you should be able to find it in any west indian caribbean market. The pumpkin is Jamaican pumpkin (as it's known or Cuban squash)

i have frijoles colorados cooking on the stove right now. i loved watching your video, how you interracted with your grandmother and hearing our familiar accent (i've grown up in california and don't hear it much). however, my cuban grandma and cuban mom (who is 85) NEVER used packaged seasonings. or packaged sofrito, all which would undoubtedly have preservatives added and not give the freshest flavor in the beans, and then people really don't know what actual seasonings to use in the frijoles colorados. maybe you could ask your grandma in future videos to tell you what actual spices go in. malanga is a root, like yuca. it grows underground like potatoes and yams. definitely not a fruit. i love our cuban culture being out there, and damn i love our cuban food. i just grew up with cuban cooks who didn't have packages available and always cooked fresh and whole. i'm sure it tasted amazing... thank you for sharing! :)

BrooklynGirl so cool to hear you’re cooking frijoles right now! Yes, the fresh sofrito is always a winner...when my family arrived from Cuba the cans didn’t exist either! Now my abuela uses them mostly for convenience, and for novices in the channel it’s an easy add as well. Te mando un grande abrazo desde Miami!

@SamazingTravels

Quiero hacerla, linda familia bendiciones..
@SamazingTravels
@SamazingTravels 8 лет назад

Side note!!!! I have used your cooking page a total of 4 times! Your granny's recipes are awesome and easy to follow! I even send them to my cousins! This page has been a lot of help!!! THANKFUL 🤗 Google results: Malanga is part of the Aracere species and is often confused with Taro, a similar root vegetable. While they are in the same family,Malanga belongs to the genus Xanthosoma and taro belongs to the genus Colocasia. They are related, but not the same thing.

@SamazingTravels
@SamazingTravels 7 лет назад
