Cooking with a salt block!

I was very kindly sent a salt block for my Birthday and had not even heard of one before. It is literally a mined large piece of salt with massive temperature tolerance both in extreme heat and cold. I can't quite push it to the level of liquid nitrogen, however... I can attempt to make lime chocolate, pizza, steak and chips, plus a gravlax over 4 days all using different cooking methods with the block. This was a lot more fun that I thought it could be, hope you enjoy as much as salt bae would.

Okay, just for the sake of historical accuracy, Alexander the Great's horses had not discovered salt, they allegedly discovered salt deposits of Khewra, second largest salt mine in the world. It's in Pakistan. Great video, as always :)

Can you do something similar to Ready, Steady, Cook? So Becky can buy some random ingredients and you have to make something with them. You only get to see the ingredients 5 mins before you start. General pantry items can be used though like flour, salt and pepper, oil ect.

When I cure salmon with salt and sugar, I usually "freshen" it with a soak in cold water, and then leave it in the fridge (without water) for a few hours to equalize. That removes the extra saltiness. How long it takes depends on how overly salty the fish is.

speaking of dark chocolate, there's a chocolate bar from Leith that they carry at the local Cost Plus World Mart, which is a Gin and Tonic chocolate bar. It's got juniper, lemon, and lime in it, and it's actually quite nice, as someone who doesn't usually favor dark chocolate. There are also some little chocolates with fruit gummies in them that I get from a company called Brookside, which are dark chocolates with blueberry, acai gummies in them, and those are quite nice.

Should have just put the pizza on the salt block while it was on the paper, because the flour stopped any salt being taken up by the dough, despite whatever was imagined. Also, salt doesn't dissolve in oil so again there was no take up of salt into the steak. to any great degree. Certainly far less salt than if you'd just salted the meat normally.
