My review of the Cookology CDD600BK downdraft extractor. Bought from thewrightbuy link below. For less than £400
Absolute bargain, save over £1000 on alternative high street products. It comes with everything you need to install.
Fitted behind the hob in a 450x800 unit. Extracts air out under the floor and to the outside wall. Excellent value for money!
Also what happens if you have your hand under the extractor when it closes

Great video, helped me realise that it won't fit in my cupboards. Thankyou!

Hi Aaron. I hope this post finds you well! Thanks for the video. I was really interested as you have vented under the floor and outside which is what I will have to do. Is your ducting under floorboards or have you had to use a rectangular profile duct in the screed? Thanks again. Scott.
@Azzta
@Azzta 2 года назад
I used rectangular ducting, I took out what was the original house wall and covered the ducting with a concrete and then a Hardi backer board.

Brilliant video. Very informative. Do you remember how big the box was when you had it delivered? Also my cupboard in the island is 800 wide x 300 deep. Would this be big enough to house the motor? Thanks.
@Azzta
@Azzta 5 лет назад
Fiona Moody I’m sure it was delivered in two boxes with the motor in one and the extractor in another. It will not fit inside a 30cm deep unit unless you put the motor on the front and have that in the front unit under the hob. I have mine fully inside a 45cm unit and there’s 5cm of space left.

Fiona did you manage to find one that fits? I have the same issue. Thanks

The price (compered) to others is very good. However, if you considering buying this one it has energy consumption D, meaning you will spend around 90kwH annually. Btw its the same extractor as Royal Flush Downdraft of Klarstein, don't know why its branded Cookology.

Did you find it difficult to remove all of the blue protective plastic from around the top of the extractor Aaron ?? Our fan sounds like something is stuck in there - is this easy to get to - to have a look. Many thanks
@Azzta
@Azzta 5 лет назад
Sam Brighton I only had one problem but that I had to cut with a stanly knife as it was trapped inside the metal but that was on the front metal cover below the lights. You can just unbolt the motor might be something stuck in there.

Hi Aaron great review,thinking of getting one.Any problems so far.Going to fit it similar to yours.What size and shape of duct did you use under the floor.Also you mentioned extractor at the outside vent .Is there there 2 extractors needed .
@Azzta
@Azzta 3 года назад
I ended up using rectangular ducting under the floor. I also ran another pipe next to this ducting to allow the power to the island to be feed through under the floor. Only the built in extractor fan is required for external venting. If you were going over a long distance you might need an additional fan. I had to buy a reducer to scale down to standard pipe work.

How is this kitchen and dining table layout working for you? I'm looking to do something similar, and on paper it looks great.
@Azzta
@Azzta 5 лет назад
alh84001hr it’s great. We were told by a kitchen planner that no one would ever have the units this way, I the suggested the hob should go on the long edge not the short edge. I disagree with them and stuck to my guns, it was brilliant at Christmas as we added two further tables at the end to seat 14. Brilliant been able to cut facing your guests.

Hi Aaron, thank you for the very helpful review. How effective it is in taking cooking smells out - I am thinking if you are cooking bacon or sausages in the rings closest to the extractor. Thanks! Tom

Tom McCarthy it’s not bad really. I can’t smell most things I’ve cooked after using it. The ceiling above is still as white it’s not yellowed, so it definitely works.

I’m looking at buying this downdraft except it’ll be the 900 version. Have you had any issues with it since installing it? What’s it like at collecting steam from the front zones of the hob? I’m imagining not great but I’m sure they’ll all be like that!
@Azzta
@Azzta 6 лет назад
It’s been in a year now and I’ve had no issues at all. It does collect steam ect from the front although not as well as it does from the rear. I only ever tend to use two pans at a time which with having kids I always use the rear rings. Hope this helps

Aaron Cook Thanks!! I’m sold! Ok, one other thing.. I’m a bit weird about appliances having a name on it having to be the brand.. The hob I’m looking at it is Caple. I take it this doesn’t have Cookology written anywhere on show? It doesn’t look like it from the video anyway!

Hello i am thinking buying the 90cm, does it come with blower is it ready out of the box ready to work or do i need extra parts? Just saw now u can recirculate do you know how? Its a carbon filter
@Azzta
@Azzta 3 года назад
Yeah the motor comes with it and you just need to mount it. You might have to get a reduction collar depending on your vent pipe diameter. For recirculating the air just needs to pass through a charcoal filter. I guess that would be supplied separately

Hi Aaron, is this still working for you and have you had any further issues. I am thinking of ordering one and it will be orientated like yours with drawers at the front and the motor at the back. I noticed in a previous comment that you stated that you put yours in a 450 mm deep unit and you had 50mm left, but this seems to be contrary to the measurements i have been given,...can i ask, do you have the unit flush against the back of cupboard or is there a gap ?,.. its just that according to the sizing diagrams the thickness of the unit that houses the extractor (the bit that pops up) is 88mm, and then the motor that juts out is 260mm,.. for a total width of 348,.. is this not the case ?,.. my back unit is 370. thank you in advance.
@Azzta
@Azzta 2 года назад
Hi sorry I missed this one, it’s still working, The issue is 450mm units aren’t 450mm deep internally.

@@Azzta - Thanks Aaron,.. I went with a SIA one from "Ship-it",.. its pretty much identical to the cookology one and is a little cheaper,.. also had a longer warranty. Early days but it's working great. Might do a video myself as yours really helped me out. Thanks again.

The electrical connectors between the extractor and motor would need extending and you’d need a custom part marking to allow a hose connection between the extractor and motor.
