Cool High School Opportunities 

So true. Straight A science student. Top 5% of my grade. Studied daily. Sometimes even study until 5am. Was in varsity team sports. No socializing. No parties. I end up in the same place where a student whom was expelled, potheads, and a few who screwed around in class. 🙃

This is one of my biggest fears. Background: I’m a freshman this year. Already, I’ve packed myself with 2 AP classes, as many honors classes as possible, and so many time consuming activities like: - Marching Band (10-20 hours a week during the season) - Honors Orchestra (lots of time practicing) - Theater - Soon starting volunteering to letter in service hours Because I’m terrified of not having enough, I’m get panicky if my grades are below an A, and even worse if below a B. Marching band has made it so I’m rarely home the last few months. When I am home, I need to practice my violin or do endless homework. The point of this is I’m tired. Burnout during freshmen year of highschool is something that can seriously throw off future education, and for some reason, I’m still rolling myself down that path. Reminder that we’re still kids, feel like it or not. The future is approaching, yes, but the present still needs to have a good base to build upon. Don’t destroy yourself now. So instead, have some fun! Make a new friend, go to that party. This is your life, enjoy it while you can. :)

For all the chess lovers out there, Supernationals only happens every 4 years. Missed out on it during my highschool year but it I'd highly recommend going if you're up for it. It's where highschoolers, middleschools and elementary kids play together in one big place so you could possibly see a kid prodigy upset a highschool completely

I’m currently in my senior year of high school and damn did I miss out on a ton of stuff and volunteer opportunities, so I’m really jam-packing a lot of activities this year. Though it’s hard enough when I’m pretty late into the college preparation (and I’m planning to go into an art college, so portfolios suck) and I’m taking 3 AP classes, so that’s hard on me as well. Hopefully I’ll make it through and for anyone starting high school, just make sure to get yourself involved as much as possible in school and in extracurricular activities. Colleges wanna see you be an active person in both their college and in your community!

I was in the band for 10 years, and every art class available. Looking back my favorite memories are of these activities. This is great advice. 👍

I’m so nervous right now. I feel like a failure compared to some people in my class, they don’t want to go to ivy keagues and have no ambitions whatsoever and nothing figured out (which is nothing bad at all) but for me, I’m extremely ambitious and I want my life to be goal-oriented, beyond just education but In all aspects, they receive honors and top school rewards with 50% of the effort that I put in. School is starting next month and I’m scared what if the same things happen again? I panic and become demotivated and procrastinate, I need to start pushing myself for discipline. I feel like an imposter when I think I have a lot of potential, talent, and capability- or so I thought. What if all these years I was just trying to convince myself. I’m scared because I’ve never actually had to push myself farther then limit. I got burnout the beginning of this year and thought everything was gonna be over but I still managed to get All A+‘s for 2 quarters and the other 2 - a mix of A’s, A+’s , but I screwed up for a B- in algebra because of how emotionally drained I became because of the lack of authority recognition I was receiving compared to some peers, it hurt and I regretted it. I have to start planning ahead, it’s gonna be harder for me though because my school doesn’t offer extracurricular besides student council, so I’ll have to take activities outside of school often which is hard to afford especially since I already attend a private school. More anxiety is racking up for me because I’m going to move to another state after next year (I’ll be in junior year then), the environment is going to be completely hard to adjust to. I don’t wanna lose myself in this process, but I have to keep pushing. I’ve got this. Inshallah

Im in 8th grade and I'm not pressured in my studies a lot by my parents. Whenever I ask them which subject should I choose, they always say something that I'm really good at and I love to do. I'm not that nervous for high school now, because I just got into 8th grade 😅

Yeah I feel that. There was a club my freshman year of high school called Emerging Leaders. Real easy way to get volunteer hours and just help people out. I didn’t hear about it and no one decided to tip me off so I learned about it right after you couldn’t join anymore.

Same. I talked to the counselor freshman year about my business path and she didn’t tell me anything about college classes. I had to reach out to a science teacher about it and he actually helped me. It sucks that faculty can’t exactly give information for students thats necessary.

I messed up in high school. I'm a junior and freshman year I took 5 ap and pre-ap classes (other 2 were electives) and I was doing football on top of that. By the time I realized I was in too deep it was to late. I got bailed out by the pandemic. Sophomore year I quit football and pretty much everyone in my school did bad. I scored extremely high on my standaized tests like I always do(I'm great at tests).now my junior year I'm doing decent, not great but decent. Gosh I messed this whole thing up

I am currently a senior in high school and I think COVID has made this worse. I have missed out on quite a lot of classes I wanted to take, but couldn’t because of covid. I also missed social events like football games homecoming and hanging out with friends in general. Now I’m sad looking at the things I wish I could’ve done, but couldn’t because of the pandemic.

As a rising senior I know so much now academically that I would’ve killed to know when I was a freshman. My personal tip for upcoming freshman is that highschool is better than middle school lol when it comes to socializing, friends, freedom etc

Yeah, I relate to this as a collage student. I participated in a writing competition but didn't went to collage because I was too nervous

I missed out on many things because my teachers wouldn't tell me about them but told my other classmates, wouldn't hand in my permission slips because they "thought I wouldn't like it" or just straight up refused to talk to me about them

My old school in junior high didn't have any clubs, just sports. But my new school offers music clubs along side sports

I’m going into eighth grade, but this honestly terrifies me. Not even for college, I have to apply to high school academies and in sixth grade I didn’t do much, so now I’ll have to cram everything into the first semester of eighth grade. Can’t even imagine what high school will be like 😂

New students: it’s no coincidence that the best educated countries have a huge club culture. If one sounds remotely interesting or fun, Go for the first two or so meetings, just watch what they do, and then join if you want. You have nothing to loose and you have a cool community in which you learn new skills to gain

I wish I joined the robotics and coding clubs and was part of and debate or AP seminar/ capstone 😖😖
