Grant Koeller No the title was misleading. He didn’t use one piece of scrap wood. That was all food fresh from the mill. He created a lot of scrap wood. He cut six strips for the edge and only used two. It was a neat design, but not a creative use of scrap wood.

Uh, I gotta say, don't ever cut thin strips between the fence and the table saw blade, only cut them on the outside of the blade. Never cut unsupported (no push stick) material that can bind between the blade and the fence. You're guaranteed to eventually have a piece bind and FLY back right into your body.

I agree...was waiting for a kickback...he must have an anti-kickback setup on the side of the safety divider. I've seen these little strips kick back 50 feet and stick into the side of another workbench like an arrow. A friend of mine had a kickback and it took the end of his thumb off...after I told him to NOT do it while I was gone...geese.

I love videos with no speaking, slightly speeded up action, and no nonsense. It gets right to the point. Thanks. By the way, when screwing pieces together, always drill the first hole at one extreme of the piece first. Then screw into that hole. Then align the piece for the next hole, drill and screw. With the two pieces now fixed in position, drill and screw the remaining holes. This ensures perfect alignment. This is especially important with hinges on doors. One millimeter of misalignment will result in torrents of obscenities.

I had the same thought as he was attaching the first leg to the table. It’s definitely helpful to get everything which will align together attached loosely in position before fully securing anything. That’s doubly true if you’re a novice woodworker or even just don’t use your tools all that often. I did appreciate his close-up footage of premarking the leg end for attaching the hinge cleanly. When tolerances are tight, press-marking is more clean than pencil or pen.

Home Depot will take 70% off any damaged wood. I used to work for one. Sometimes they had a cull wood bin but if you find stuff yourself and talk nicely to someone working lumber or a manager about cull wood pricing it can easily be marked down. The cashiers can do it too but they aren't always sure what to do and might be worried its not right. . Its easier to get someone else to authorize it.

Very interesting project. A couple suggestions for best results: * Avoid knots in wood that will be sliced thin and which you want to remain flat. You had lots of lumber available to be more selective here. * Don't use strong clamping force to overcome poor fitting joints. Wood already has internal stresses, especially when using knotty wood, and clamping that hard just creates more. Those joints will come apart over time. You don't need a jointer to make the lumber straight, but you need more than your short table saw fence. Many videos out there to guide how to joint boards properly with just a table saw and jig or fixture you can make. When your cuts are better you'll barely need any clamping force to hold the wood while the glue dries. You can also learn to joint boards with a hand plane. If money and space allow then a power jointer (6" or 150 mm wide is the smallest I think is worth buying) then you can do the same thing faster. But you don't need a jointer to properly joint your lumber. You are very creative! I hope you will learn some ways to improve the quality of your work so that your creations last longer and look even better. I'm afraid that what you made here will probably crack within the first year or two. That's okay! It's a great way to learn. I don't know about other languages but at least in English there is an excellent book called Understanding Wood. Taking the time to read it will greatly increase the speed at which your woodworking improves. And even if you don't want to do that keep having fun and make more things! The world needs more people like you!!

One more comment for you. ... It depends on- what kind of professional you are. For example- one cigar box could cost... you will get 300-650$$ for each. And you may spend only two or three hours to make it. Doing it for fun. But!!!- "IF" you are THE PROFESSIONAL CARPENTER. (that's the story) And on more thing- Ain't everyone doctor or lawyer.

Paul, you can do a lot with those items, I have a handsaw, hammer, a drill and some screw and I've done some decent work with them, as a beginner you should just start with those.

Not really. This is mostly beginner equipment. No planer or jointer. Just a few saws a drill and some claps. You could use a hammer and some finish nails or skip the trim pieces altogether. Just get creative with what you have. I think that is the point here. Most people who have "wood scraps" are already doing woodworking projects
@musicman9434
@musicman9434 2 года назад
@@BrandynMakes point taken, it's just that the title suggests that it's an "anyone can do it" project and if you know nothing about carpentry, like me lol, your reaction is more like "um ok so I need gear(most people dont own multiple saws and clamps) and some level of skill (beginner is still a skillset) so unless I'm willing to invest time and money not possible." Seems like the channel is for carpenters and DIY amateur woodworkers. Title does not give that impression whatsoever and RU-vid pays out to more views. Calling out a click baitey title is all.
