A ring under it w holes every so many mm apart and a rod maybe spring tensioner to act as a multi position adjustable rotation lock? BBQ Grill ? .... 🤔 Hmmm.....kind of creative also but only if the fire burns from sidewall from each side up. Turning the meat rotationaly 360• when the fire is burning downwards make no sense.

Just add fire under it and you can cook a bbq while you weld stuff !

You could put a grounding strap between it and the table, and then build a tab that prevents it from going past 360.

I was at this tube mill that a similar turntables for the welders. We used slip rings for the grounds

just like a failed truck part haha that it is. but in all reality, i just thought it was some sort of BBQ grille art piece, because the stack has no function, you'd have to build a undercone and ducting near the back to get a functional cooking stack, plus the idea screams, campfire pit dug under neath it.

@@fordcougar99 no. The problem is that the current must pass through the bearings. There will be arcing between the bearings and the races that will destroy the bearings.

@@fordcougar99 also he clipped it on a painted bit which would mean that its not actually touching metal its touching an insulated layer. So poor earthing.

Good point. He wasted a lot of Time and Materials, by using a scrounged hub. A new can be had for $80. It just made no sense.

@@AngelRodriguez-dd1bx any time you run electric current over any sort of loose connection, heat is created. Weilding focuses that heat over a small area with high current, but if you run the same current over a larger area, the same thing happens. It just takes longer.

Exactly my concern as well. Current through the bearing is a bad idea. There should be a central rod to clamp on from below.

Or a long copper earthing strap would do the job to save your bearings.

He welded with no glvoes (and helmet?) the space in-between is to small. theres no way to make the table stop rotating so its just free. so many things wrong with this . also most of the work was executed dumb

This video title should be "how to build the most convoluted, janky turntable"

Anyway, I would say the main take-away is: "Use an old wheel hub as the base for whatever kind of turntable you want to build." That is an okay idea. I was wrong to pass judgement on the final form it took in the video.

unless you attach the ground to one of the crossbraces on the spinning section. Otherwise, I could see the current going through the bearings causing occasional open circuits and/or the bearing grease catching on fire.

You can get special hubs for welders, had them on our service welding trucks for years,,never a problem. Pipe line welders use them all the time.

Chris Smith I came to the comments to say exactly that about the bearing. Airplanes have bonding straps to prevent static electricity from arcing through flight control bearings. I figured a welder arc would kill that bearing in no time.

he won't be able to spin it easy for long. We use a flange wheel for flange pipe. it can't be turned smoothly while welding.

@@k.g.77715 It’s used for welding tubed metal in the up right 90 degree position which is better for the welder to maintain a steady weld while the table rotates in place giving a seamless weld.

There’s actually a way to do it without ruining the bearing, but it requires machining and knowing precisely what to do. And marine grade bearing grease

We do all the time. We keep talking about the fact he can make all this stuff but not a circle cutting jig for his plasma cutter. We also wonder why he does not power the turntable. I made a powered turn table for my tig about 15 years ago. Guess how much I use it, yep none.
