Anakin in both rots and rotj throws someone down a distance each for a person he loves deeply. In prequels to save his wife and turn bad and in OT to save his son and turn good. Such a wonderful connection.
Also, saving his wife is a false salvation as she doesn't actually need saving except from himself. While saving his son is a legitimate rescue and redeems him.
This is how you know Anakin and Luke's story literally parallel each other because when qui Gon said he will bring balance to the force that was true Anakin goes to the dark side like goes to the light two sides of the same coin two fates one destiny.
The image of jaggernaut of a sith that is Vader being cornered by Luke's etched in my mind as the coolest "coming of age" moment. Even with Anakin not wanting to win against Luke context, i can feel the anger in every single swing/thrust. Yet the music's not one of heroic triumph, it's dark, tragic, and suspenseful.
The thing is, given what Vader says right before Luke attacks, Vader IS trying to win against Luke because he knows it's either that or getting killed and replaced, and he thinks Leia is still an option to turn.
There are tons of parallel's like this in the series. At the start of Empire Strikes Back, there is a ground battle on an ice planet where a rebellion is being pushed back by an empire. At the end of Attack of the Clones, it is the same context but on a desert planet, and this time the audience is meant to cheer for the empire as they send the rebels fleeing from their base. A New Hope starts on a desert, so Empire starts in the snow. In the asteroid field of Empire, the heroes are being chased down by the empire, and the customized ship uses many tricks to evade its enemy. In the asteroid field of Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan (working with an empire) hunts down the specialized ship and must evade its deadly traps it uses to defend itself. I recommend a video called “Star Wars and the Upside Down” by a neat channel called “So Uncivilized” to fully explore all of this.
I love how Luke is paralleled with Mace when he's being electrocuted by Sith Lightning - Anakin has to face the same choice again, but instead of an overbearing mentor, it's his OWN SON
Another cool parallel is the fact that in the beginning of Luke’s fight with Vader in VI Luke’s moves are a mirror of Vader’s moves in V. It shows that Luke is becoming his father.
Yeah there are _a great many_ parallels in both the prequel & original trilogies, a couple I enjoy are how both the first & last chapters of each trilogy echo each other in some simple ways, Eps 4 & 6 both have scenes near the start of the movie featuring R2 & 3PO on tatooine & later, both have the planning of & battle/destruction of the Death Star. While in the prequels, eps 1 & 3 both start with a master & ‘apprentice’ Jedi boarding a trade federation ship, getting into a lightsaber battle with droids & later both films feature a funeral on Naboo - with the same music. And not forgetting the ep 5 & ep 2, that final shot of Luke, Leia & the droids standing in the window echoed in that wedding shot of Anakin, Padme & again the droids, looking out over the lake. Very cool & clever symmetry.
@@evanmil0minefly Absolutely, another one I like is Anakins ‘Vader’ pose, standing straight with his arms clasped behind his back as he meditates on Naboo the morning after his nightmare.
"I hope you're ready to fuckle your seatbelts because we're coming in hot" Is a great quote for this video cuz I tried WAY too hard and it ended up looking shit, but enjoy regardless! ok i didnt expect this to get a bunch of views, what do u guys want me to do next?
awesome video. that first act vs. third act acceptance thing is so crucial!! because we know from the very first moment we meet anakin in episode 1, it's a tragedy. it doesn't *feel* like it because we identify with Anakin and he's curious and open, so it feels like a long shot. but we know what's going to happen already. And with Luke, from episode 4 on, it feels like a long shot that he's going to be the hero to restore order, but it happens at the last possible moment, the final act.
Nice to see recent Star Wars content that praises the best parts of the movies instead of trashing on new stuff (although with The Acolyte that’s understandable)
If you want to stretch Kylo/Ben parallels it as well, but finds his redemption in a different way than Luke & Vader. He starts off a path similar to Vader (Angry, Hotheaded, and Confused) and because of this loses to Rey in a Fluke. But by the time of TROS he destroys Rey in a duel but instead of him being the one to strike in anger it ends up being Rey who does, which helps him see the light.
Love this. Unfortunately one of the parallels hasn’t aged so well considering in ROTS it was Anakin and Dooku’s 8th duel lol. 9 if you count the vision Yoda had of the Works
Good video, well done man! Keep up the good work and keep making more videos! One slight bit of constructive criticism would be that you need to improve your audio recording quality, but I see you are very early in your video making journey, so don’t sweat that too much just yet. Maybe ask for a nice microphone for your next birthday or Christmas. May the Force be with you!
