I've tried many different terminal emulators over the years, but Cool Retro Term is something special. As soon as I launched it for the first time, I couldn't help but think "The 1980's called and they want their terminal back!"

I remember working on monochrome monitors / dumb terminals back in the day. We used to replace components (usually capacitors) and make adjustments with potentiometers on the video board to correct those screen anomalies so the customer would have a clear crisp view. Funny how the anomalies are now "features" of this software.

CRT with the futuristic theme is my daily driver, the terminal is a tool from the 60's, so it should look the part imo.

I don't get the glow line that would be the first thing I turned off. It's just not a thing when looking at a CRT - people just think it is because you get that artefact pointing a camera at one.

I still use a CRT, I'm not a consooooomerist. I was using a 1080p television but it broke, so I picked a CRT out of the garbage three years ago and it just werks.

Every Linux-Tuber does a video on CRT and you've been around for long enough that I'm surprised you didn't already do this video years ago. Good review though, went into detail on operations and gave a reasoned opinion.

I actually ran some terminal speed tests with alacritty, kitty, xterm, konsole, tilix, xfce terminal, and a few others... cool retro term, though not as fast as alacritty and kitty, wasn't far behind, and did much better than most... there's not even a noticeable speed penalty when using it when compared to other terminals. So it absolutely can be used as a person's main terminal emulator. I turned off some of the features like RGB shift, glow lines, etc to make it more readable, while still preserving a classic look. Though, Alacritty is still my main terminal

Old CRTs were not bowed out like that. If you seen one it was because someone fiddled with the potentiometer in the back. You could have just put it back.

It's a really sweet gimmick, but I'm not that old. My first computer was a dos pc in the nineties and I quickly transitioned towards Windows 95. I do use it occasionally for the fun, but it's not something I'd ever use if I needed to do some serious work. Kudos to developers though. It does exactly what it promises and is highly customizable, so it's still a good piece of software.

Could you make a video with the best application that runs into this terminal? I like a lot the bash approach and would use the full power of it. I've seen a IRC that run into terminal, so I'm wondering to know how many other nice apps can run into this beautiful window. Thanx

remove background color from vim, it will work fine.. just put theme to default rather than your theme

Some things maybe should've been left in the past, this is one of them. The amount of headaches caused by CRTs are far too many to count Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty good replica, but it's not something I'd use for anything other than fun

Well, for serious work with terminal it would be a bit annoying, since it uses GPU for all these effects and is slower than regular terminal emulator. Also it's made to emulate the low resolution CRT screens, so it cant display very long lines. It's more a toy/tech demo than anything else. The profiles it comes with are kinda exaggerated. Decent CRT monitors weren't that horrible. With sane settings it looks super convincing. And really with all the options and font support it can look like basically everything.
