In this video we will change the antifreeze/coolant in the 1998 Honda Valkyrie GL1500CT with the Flat 6 Cylinder (F6C) engine. I will be restoring this bike and customizing it. It will get a lot of re-chroming and a custom paint scheme as well as replacing broken and deteriorating parts. The bike has 16,000 miles on it but it has terrible cosmetic issues which I believe were caused by outside storage in all kinds of poor weather and direct sun.
Per the factory service manual, Honda only specifies "a 50/50% Ethylene Glycol coolant" rather than an OEM recommended coolant. I was surprised they didn't have a statement like "use only Honda specific coolant bla bla bla". No mention of that, so I choose to go to my local Honda Auto dealer and bought a couple gallons of the Type 2 Honda Blue coolant as I use in my personal car, a Honda CRV. It is "specially formulated to protect aluminum engines and the related cooling system components from corrosion and deterioration". It is both silicate and borate free. The old stuff that came out appeared to be the same blue coolant. It is a 5 year or 60,000 mile coolant per Honda.
Here are a few links to the coolant and products I used in this video. I purchased all items and products in the video and I have zero sponsorship for anything I recommend. If I like the product, I'll link it.
Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos on this and other projects.
