HOW TO: Replace Coolant Thermostat Housing on 2006-2010 Ford Explorer. Timeline: 20 minutes.
AUDIENCE: Those who need to conduct this repair
With minimal tools without hydraulic shop lifts (i.e. driveway repair)
DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional mechanic, just a guy who likes to fix things within my realm of capability. I built up confidence to undergo increasingly difficult repairs to my car after watching professional RU-vidrs and paying for overpriced repairs over the years.
The methods I used to achieve this repair are a combination of tips I’ve learned from other professional RU-vidrs and mechanics. There ARE better ways to do this, and more technical ways (i.e. torque specifications).

Then work backwards to install? Nothing too special to put back in ?

Yes! Once you have your new replacement, throw it onto the inlet of the engine block, bolt down with your 3 mounting bolts, hook up cannon plug, then connect two hoses and tighten. Note: Some new housings coming with loose thermostat cover bolts. Make sure the three bolts on the thermostat cover are relatively tight. Please let me know if you need anything else!
