After 27k miles and three years of riding my KTM 390 Adventure I thought it would a good idea to change the coolant. Based on a recommendation, I also changed the water pump seal on the coolant side. The seal was not leaking but it was indicated to me this was a wear item that should be changed during routine maintenance. I tried looking for an interval on the seal and found varying suggested intervals. Watch to see what I did to change the seal and the coolant. There are few tips and tricks making the video worth watching all the way through.

Thank you Matt for showing how this little Indian-Austrian love child came to be the most reliable and serviceable steed in their lineup 🍻🍻

As far as draining overflow bottle, I would pull the tube out like you did off the radiator that is and fire up my air compressor turn the pressure down to say three psi and hold my hand over it and I’m not in a nozzle and pressurized the tank to three psi to flush all the fluid out of the tank and the hose without having to pull the hose like you did to me that was sound a whole lot easier. 😊

That could work. It really wasn't all that difficult. Always different ways to accomplish the same thing. Cheers.

Have to say the pump internals and coolant looked impressively clean for the mileage, good job KTM. As you say though, peace of mind for another 30k.

Changing the coolant is best part. Only change the seal if you oil looks milky. Cheers.

Hi Matt, did you use the correct coolant? The motorex stuff is pricey but the spec calls for OAT without borate and silicate. Glysantin G30 meets the requirements. Confusingly the right coolant is usually pink unlike the factory fill

I will have to check the specs again on the coolant I used.

Matt, there're supposed to be two seals one on the inner and one one the outer, seems you've replaced only one..

You are right. There are two. I only replaced the outer one. The inner looked challenging to replace and since I didn't have a leak I left it in. It's buried in there.

Hope you only changed one seal. 390 has two seals. One single lip seal and another dual lip seal just behind the one you removed. Would suggest to change both of them.

I saw the second seal. I did not want to mess with it since the bike didn't have any issues. It looked challenging to remove. I wasn't sure if the case needed to split for a clean extraction. There is not much room to work in there. If coolant gets into the oil then it will be time to replace both of them. Cheers.
