I used to be a pyrotechnician. We would "save" a few shells from all the shows we shot, then have our own private show at the bosses cabin a weeks or so after the 4th.
Funny that, I did commercial displays for 20 years & I always seemed to have a few dud shells at every display, doggone it, especially when there were golden opps like fans of three simultaneous shells that magically became two, that sort of thing. As the show supervisor it was my responsibility to pull all the live shells and safely dispose of them 🙂. I use to have the best backyard shows.
What a great way to present a fireworks display if you don't have a lot of fireworks. I've seen fireworks where they let off thousands of them and spent a lot of money but this is just as entertaining in it's own way... the suspense of what to expect is part of the enjoyment. For the same reason some of the old well written movies with all the suspense and wonder built in are better than the new ones even though they have all the special effects.
I remember this show...the finally jaw-dropping! Redlands California really does have an awesome display. I just with Mcallum wouldn't comment so damn much.
I helped set up the Redlands show about 12 years ago. Lots of work but a memorable experience! I think that was one of the first years they had titanium in the shells so at the after party we yelled out, "Salute... TITANIUM!"
"5 inch blue jellyfish" Ha! On July 1 we were watching the Canada Day fireworks in Vancouver and saw several of these for the first time. It struck me at the time that they resembled jellyfish, and I know that's what they're called!
After loading thousands of these, its kinda kewl to see them one at a time rather than reading the labels and then trying to pick them out of the show later that night.
Somebody should try making a visual rhythm out of fireworks by having each one explode multiple times, one after another, at unequal intervals, and with a different color, shape, and tone for each explosion. Thus, each firework comes equipped with a certain simple repertoire of serial explosions. Then, you can shoot multiple fireworks in tandem to create an audiovisual beat box in the sky!
I like celebrating in my neighborhood better cause you don't need to wait for seconds to see one firework. there was fireworks non-stop yesterday for me

I can appreciate the potato this was filmed on given the year of its upload. Really wish they would do something like this in New York, is this like, a show for people who make fireworks? A promo for business people or something? I have never heard of some of these firework names before (also fireworks are illegal in My state, but companies still have firework shows)
2:10 (to the person whispering,) it matters so you can see the design if the jellyfishes head was pointing towards you than you could not see the full details of the design as clearly.
