Your understanding is not that far, man saifil dragon has several species spread across asia on the island of Makassar, Halmahera, Weberi the one held by the chandler is a type of hydrosaurus amboinensis, while the other is a type of hydrosaurus micro-celebencis

This is really awesome, I always heard that sailfin dragons were really skittish, I can’t believe how chill those lizards were and the fact that they were wild caught too blows my mind.
Brian Barczyk recently got bit by a black throated monitor and shortly after experienced flu like symptoms and made him sick the rest of the day. That is so cool monitor lizards have evolved their saliva and that there is still much to learn from these animals.
We had two Green Iguanas when i was a little child. My teacher informed my parents that, when i got bored during the lessons at primary school, i startet telling storys about green Lizards, who walked around our flat. She told parents i have a good imagination. As my father said this is true, she couldn't believe it. Two boys were curious if its true. They came to visit me. After they came into the room, the really proud male who was about 6feet long came around the corner. The two boys left screaming and told my teacher that we really have Green Iguanas 😂😂. Sorry, I've written way too much. But i can remember the story if it was yesterday 🤓

We live in ARIZONA and i have had the honor of meeting the beautiful king snake on 2 different occasions. We had a pair who lived on our propert in tucson and kep the rattlers away! I have also seen some amazing lizards 💖 They are all beautiful 🐍💖🐢💖🐊💖🦎
9:40 Interestingly, my Tortoise comes out of its enclosure when I play the piano too. He doesn't get too close, maybe the bass would be too much for him, but he is definitely interested in that big box of sound :P

Chinese water dragons have the same issue with the rubbing. I rescued two males so far with such bad rubbing that they exposed their lower jaws and rubbed off front teeth. I keep mine in large sealed plywood enclosures with clear plexi glass in the front for the door and viewing. I hate seeing them kept in wire cages
Once you get their care down they’re pretty easy, but they’re definitely not the easiest when you compare it to most reptiles as far as space/enclosure size, humidity requirements, heat & UVB requirements, and require a much more diverse diet than most reptiles. And most don’t require a huge body of water that you have to clean daily as well. You basically need a drain system or a shopvac just to clean out the old water which is a hassle. A leopard gecko is the easiest animal to keep*. Maybe a sailfin is the easiest to keep in Indonesia or the Philippines but there is by far easier to keep animals out there.
@@TheEmster51 yeh that makes sense, it’s definitely much easier in Indonesia as we don’t need any of that stuff, the environment here is perfect for them to be in an enclosure outside. The water is just a big dog bed filled with water emptied and refilled each day so it’s very easy. No need for any UV lights or anything here as long as they’re outdoors so yeh that makes sense. Seems like a real hassle to keep them over there. Thank for the great content.
@@TheEmster51 they're very easy to keep. I used to have a dozen of them. I keep them outside in a large enclosure with plenty of driftwoods to climb, water to swim and sunlight to bask. But be aware that you can't keep an adult and juvenile together because they have the tendency to cannibalize smaller ones. I have to give them to my friend when I move to another place.
@@goldpieceleo over in the US, they would freeze outside especially right now. And yeah they’re able to eat pretty much anything they can fit into their mouths, I’ve seen people feed them species of varanus that didn’t hatch out
I study an animal degree and my college (where I also work aha) just got a 5 year old Sailfin Dragon female. So cool! I cant wait to work with her more.

Way kool animal, the part where it was analyzing the banana was brilliant. 🦎✌ They were quite common in the old school dinosaur movies, they also used to glue all kinds of kooky stuff on iguanas as well.
This is why i love nature, there is so many cool animals to discover! Never heard of Sailfin dragons before today but im already in love with them ❤️🦎 This is why conservation is so important!
Thank you for what you do. Being just like Steve Irwin was always a childhood dream of mine and seeing you live it brings me happiness. He was a true revolutionary and I hope to one day get the chance to visit Florida and visit the outpost.
I know someone who breeds the Philippine variety of sailfins, here in the US. Last year I got a sick imported one and it passed on the ride home, I'll be buying a pair of captive bread next year and I'm so happy you got some of theses guys. Now if you got some lavender false water cobras that would be even more awesome!
I live in the U.S. We have our own Sailfin dragon who’s currently outgrowing a pretty tank. We just got him about 2 weeks ago and me and my family are trying to get them to trust us. Obviously we don’t ever keep him in glass tanks, and we feed him often. I think he’s still just edgy and is in too small of a tank (it’s really not that big)
As someone who has spent past years of my life working with Philippine sailfin dragons. It brings me great joy to see people working with pure Hydrsoaurus microlophus and Hydrosaurus celebensis in the states.
There are sailfin lizards here in philippines they are just basking in the sun mostly i saw them when i go home in my province they are just hanging out on our backyard
Maybe monitors can be researched in a venom lab if there saliva is similar to snakes and be used for medicine to conserve species in order to educate people out there to understand more about the species.
I've seen these guys at a local pet shop here in Colorado... Hmm I really hope the employees there gave who ever bought the little dude the proper information.. if I only knew I would've done something to make sure the animal had proper care.

The one Chandler was holding ,Was in my reptile shop in Essex,UK not so long ago,Had his face bashed about a bit,Got some good photos and he made a full recovery
Great content Chandler. I like seeing something new. These lizards seemed to be like my Box Turtles that if provided with a pan of water they seek it out, soak, and defecate every time you introduce it to their tank. That’s why I used the fake stone water bowls to hydrate them. Very fun to watch them drink like your vipers when you sprinkle water on them.

You should do a review or even get on if you really like it. (I have one and I love it) is a Chinese water dragon. They have the diet of an iguana but leaning towards meat. They are semi- aquatic and they look really cool. Just a suggestion.
Walker is impressive and the those lizards are gorgeous! Just come from Kenan’s update video on Slinky, how amazing and wonderful that he recovered! Just more evidence on how amazing monitors are.

Sopeng is a region name in Celebes / Sulawesi island. I love sailfin dragon too, love at first sight. Before 2018 they are considered endangered in conservation status of Indonesia. I keep a dozen numbers of sailfin dragon i.e. celebensis and amboinensis sp. You should keep amboinensis too, they are beautiful in colors, but keep in mind, they bite. 😁
