I really hope they release the black insert on its own in the future. I just ordered one of these but I have a copper Armor zippo that would definitely look cool with a black insert also.
Yes the copper Zippo with the black lighter looks really cool. I don't collect Zippo's or even smoke but I have to have one! Maybe get another lighter like a butain fluid? Something about copper and black.
I have an antique copper zippo I got through Marlboro I love it, it’s super sweet looking. Doesn’t have the black insert just the standard chrome one but I also just got the plasma insert for it so I don’t have to keep changing flints and wicks and adding fluid and all of that. I personally like the standard insert better but the convenience is worth it to at least check out for a while.
i have a D 2003 copper one of the blend 57 promo ones got it in California in 2003 i got 5 of them gave them as presents to friends who have all lost them now
It'll be beautiful for about a week before it turns dark. I have a brass one that used to be tumbled, but that changed to brushed after the first cleaning. As a watchmaker I dont understand peoples love of patina on copper & brass since I try go get rid of the stuff for a living.
I think the look of it being 'aged' is what I understand as the appeal, it also happens with some newer Leica models that have a black paint coat above a brass body so as time goes on it develops a 'beat and worn' look, respectively.
God I miss Zippo lighters. My issue is I always drop it when I’m fiddling with it when I’m drinking & smoking. It usually bends the hinge when dropped in open position & it’s never the same sadly. Bics for me, sadly. Awesome Zippo you got there btw
I bought a copper zippo back when you made a video about a knockoff lighter which was made of copper, and I had found out that Zippo made some genuine ones out of copper. The black insert gives it a great look. Now I want one. 😂 Edit: I may just use some gun bluing compound to make an insert black, or at least try to.
That's awesome they're doing it now. I had my friends powder coat buisness do a few of my inserts years ago. Everyone asked about it every time I got it out
@@jacobpoucher its electroplating not powder coat. I couldn't remember what it wss called earlier. But yea it held up and the case is a little tighter but it's not really noticeable. It's probably been 6 years since it's been done and it's starting to show some wear marks around the rim of the insert where the lid touches
I purchased one of these. The cool box came a little scuffed but the lighter was perfectly fine. I want one for using, but I’m wondering if I should buy another preproduction model so I get a box that is undamaged or wait for the full model that might be lower priced?
Copper zippo. Interesting, a lot of knockoff zippos are made with cheaper copper I think. Star lighters are made of copper. But Zippo being Zippo usually tries to add a bit more quality to things. I wonder how a cheap star lighter sounds compared to the Zippo copper one. With a star insert and with a Zippo insert. Pretty sure Zippo's copper is probably a lot more pure.
Most "copper" is just a coating and oxygen-free copper is really rare I was hoping it was oxygen-free copper from vacuum manufacture but it's clearly not
I bet you could paint an insert any color you want with engine enamel paint. The heat resistance would keep the paint from wearing off and it would last a long time.
Have you by chance heard of a Eiger Lighter? I’ve been trying to fix my fathers but I’m not quite sure how to go about it. I have no idea how old the thing is but I couldn’t find anything about it online; was hoping you might know something!
I bought this lighter after seeing this video. It's nice, yeah but one major flaw is the material. I forgot how ridiculously soft copper was. Scratches are almost guaranteed within a day.. I bought two and both had very fine scratches from the factory and I'm not even talking about the brushed finish. ....I think I'll redo the finish and then try and force a patina but idk..

No, I believe it means they want to see how they sell and since they are selling well the may go into production in stead of being a limited edition but I doubt the price will be lower...retail is $75 from zippo which is a great price since all past coper models rose WAY above that with only a few years..I guess it depends how many they offer...If they make and sell them for the next 20 years it wont be as special but if they only make them for a year they it will be more collectible...
Gee Jeff, I've been watching for years and originally came across your channel because of Balisong Content, 'cause I'm a flipper from the 70's. I love the variety of your content and your own personality comes thru always. So in the end, its not about your actual subject matter, whether it be folding knives, fixed blades, balisong, lighter tricks, EDC or even fishing and story time. This copper lighter got my attention, but I had to comment, because you mentioned you are gonna be OUTSIDE more often this year. Good for you....... and I wanna encourage you to take us along. More old school balisong content ........ I'm an old school flipper from way back. Not a huge trick guy, but I've had such a long history with those types of knives, and continue to flip actively. Currently flipping primarily BRS and Squid Industries.......'LOVE the latchless Channel Alpha Beast (my fave)
Does pre production mean that eventually we will see a wider available production full copper? Or is it one of those limited runs that will never go into full production?

Seriously? If you're gonna drop that much on THREE zippos, you could spend an extra 15 bucks a piece and get SOLID SILVER instead of copper. They sell for 75. Silver is 90. It's a no Brainer. That black on the insert will be scuffing off after a month's worth of heavy use.
Just bought my first zippo (Not for smokin or nothing I'm 15 lol) but I'm a Pyro and have always wanted one and got one today and it is so amazing compared to a normal bic and for the 10 bucks I paid for it, it was made in USA which is awesome
Zippo needs to make a premium insert with a properly sealed bottom and a chimney cap to avoid fluid evaporation and maybe even some better quality cotton which holds more liquid. They don't seem to realize that what stops a big part of the public from using their lighters is that they don't want to do a weekly refill. I get that they stick to the original design but it is almost 90 years old, there is room for improvement. They could learn a thing or two from Zorro.
well yes and no they keep it the way it is becasue they sell millions of them so it selling very well maybe one day as the interest is lost they will adapt but also like tires and lightbulbs companies can make them to last but then they sell less tires and lightbulbs :) you can make a filament thicker in a lightbulb and it will last 100+ years but then people stop buying lightbulbs for a while, they can make airless tires that dont go flat but for the same reason its not in mass production, if they made a zippo that didnt leak it would just be a different lighter
Only problem is the people that’s buying them up like crazy, planing on trying to rip people off in a couple months. I seen one guy that had ten and had ten more on the way like why do you need twenty of these damn things 😂
I can’t stand any gear in Copper. The gross penny smell and stickiness of copper turns me off so much. I prefer titanium and stainless for their non smelly properties. I do appreciate copper though for people who can take the smell.
