Boston Pipefitter here, just a tip for you from a guy with 25 years commercial experience, the issue wasn’t with the press fitting, the issues was a frozen pipe, the fittings pull themselves apart instead of cracking the pipe during a freeze. should have checked the heat tape to see if it’s still operational after fixing the 90s. A freezing pipe was the root of the issue not bad pressed joints
Saw this exact issue happen about 50 times in one night with that bomb cyclone that hit the Cleveland area the day before Christmas eve. I couldn’t believe it until I saw it happen right before my eyes. Although honestly, I much preferred to have it happen this way, as opposed to trying to find every single little burst while tearing out walls, or have ceilings fall down on my head.
That heat trace is rarely tested after it's installed. Not working from day 1, then on a cold day when the make up water is off you end up with broken connections. I like heat trace for the right application, but it must be tested/commissioned after it's installed.
I agree with your observation Jeff. It just takes a few hours of lost power, to the heating tape along with a short freezing period, which causes this “perfect storm” issue 🧊🧊
@soulman4292 good God, I lived I'm Pittsburgh and was on call and that was the craziest on call ever. My paycheck was ridiculous. I'm in building automation controls but our hvac mechanic had to use me. I remember we had one school with 5 coils busted. It was crazy.
Pulled out a xxxl tighty whitey from a sewer drain at a hardware store, don’t asked me how it got through the toilet, the crew at the store went crazy when I showed it to them, your comments would be hilarious if you was there.
Nice soldering, bro. I watch all your videos, man. You're a good plumber. I love that you are willing to go the extra mile for the customer. No shortcuts, no cutting corners, you do it the right way. This is why I subscribe to your channel, bro. 👍🏻
Any tradesman willing to film their work and put it on the internet must be confident in their work. Now that doesn’t always mean they’re good, since you can have confident idiots, but this guy clearly knows his stuff and he’s posting it.
Always posting the best videos. Bra, u are too funny. I love watching your videos. Every other plumbing vid now just seems boring to watch because yours have set a standard. Commentary is on point. And I love how clean your work is. Much love from Cape Town, South Africa ❤
Young man-I just subbed you.have seen a bunch of your”shorts” and finally got a regular video in my YT feed so I was able to sub. Look forward to more of your content-humor and expertise. Your a natural at all of this-good for you
@@hydronyc I live on 13 acres in Alaska and my closest neighbor is over 100 yards away. I would prefer to be even more secluded but it’s good enough for now. I don’t like city life. To each their own though.
A lot of plumbers say that press fittings are no good on the long run. Sure, I guess it's fast and easy when installing but ends up being someone else's problem later down the road.
Press fitting are terrible in any state where there is climate change. They are only good in states where it gets only hot and hotter. Florida and states like that. You will have nothing but problems with them in climate changing states. DONT USE THEM OUTSIDE EVER!!!! Eventually they will work themselves loose.
you should buy a gopro its not gonna be in your hands but you could put it as a hat it would look amazing and you will be able to work efficiently with your two hands brother i love watching your videos! plumbing in new york looks wild i am from canada and i do a litle bit of plumbing working with electric water heaters cheers!
Somebody missed pressing that one or two for sure crazy that it held up at all. Solders great but as long as you put those press fittings together right they are solid bro
I love NYC but I cant imagine running my plumbing business there. Im sure its like anything else and you just adapt but I cant even imagine dealing with the congested traffic and having to carry tool bags in and out of high rise buildings.. i guess thats what they make elevators for though. Anyways , good videos broski !!
It looked like pipe wasn't fully in the fitting before the press. The black mark at the end of the pipe was most likely where the o ring sat. Looks like it from my view on this video. Side not: keep up the work. I enjoy your channel my guy.
Richard little Lexington plumbing and gas freezing pipes could have been the issue or it could have been the pipe was cut too short when it was installed I've seen that too on press fittings old school sweat fittings are the best
Well crap, I've been pressing fittings for years so did not enjoy seeing that. I wonder if they forgot to press it and it was only a minor leak for years
If that heat trace was working that wouldn’t of happened and also if they can blow apart of press fittings it’ll blow a part of Sauter fitting press tests higher than Sauter so it only makes sense
Dang that's a crazy scenario needing AC all winter ❄️❄️❄️❄️😮😮. But yeah I bet it gets hot I'd be out of there that would drive a guy nuts being above a bakery.
My thought, that insulation might of had a small nic on the outside to begin with. Slowly absorbing water. over time the weight on the insulated pipe was too much to handle on the pressed joint.
So do you think the fittings popped because they were outdoors during the winter or because there were too many temperature fluctuations during the winter??
My guess would be the heat trace failed, loss of power best guess, and the force of the ice spread the fitting. Was on a job similar, lost power to the building over the weekend, froze the hydronic heating system, building management didn't want to pay for glycol so it was all water, the piping was sch 40 steel, grooved for victalic, the ice peeled the groove off. It was pretty impressive
Hmmmm. Pro Press pulls out due to frozen pipe. Obviously heat tracing wasn't working. Did you test it. I have seen soldered elbows pull out from freezing. Could have been fixed easier and faster with a sharkbite. Interesting I just got an advertisement for Shark Bite Max before I watched this video. Higher burst pressure and easier insertion. If this had a sharkbite on it everyone would have blamed it on the fitting. Nobody will be saying I told you Pro Press is no good.
Doesn’t look 👀 like it was pressed properly, the pipe work was already out that means the pipe was to short to begin with created a stress on a press fitting and came off. Someone definitely cut the corners
If this is your first video like you said then it’s very funny seeing you go from” New York is so inspiring 🗽 🇺🇸 🫡 you can acheive anything “ To “bro wtf is this shit another day another dollar” Although your can do attitude does always shine thru
