Exposing the Affordability in Coolock's New Housing Scheme
Well folks, Coolock's latest development by Oscar Trainer Woods has got everyone talking. They promised affordable homes, but starting at a whopping 475,000 eur! Councilor John Lyons nearly fell off his chair when he heard that, and who can blame him?
The plan was to build 853 homes: 40% for social housing, 40% for cost rental, and 20% for the affordable purchase scheme. But with prices climbing higher than an Irishman on St. Patrick's Day, it's no wonder people are upset.
Dr Lorcan Sirr, a housing policy expert, argues that these prices are tied to market rates and believes "affordable" should reflect income levels, not market prices. In comparison, Ballymun offers similar homes for eur150,000 less. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
