The youtube algorithm led me to this video. Loved it. As an almost 60yo I love seeing young’uns enjoying themselves outdoors. Thirty six years in the military cured my desire to camp-hike, I like extended hikes that allow me to stay in hard accom each night. Next year I plan on tackling the West Highland Way (just booked my flights). Gorgeous accent, is it Ayrshire? Have Glaswegian mates and like to place accents.

@@petermerlehan7478 not on this hike but as it was a warm up for the PCT, I used mostly the same gear and I have a couple of videos on that, most useful to watch would be my Post Pct gear vid :)

You joked about turning around and going back at the end there. But no joke, I have actually done that a few times now (3 or 4 times?). It is a great experience and you get some real distances in. I hope you guys do it again - you seemed to have fun. Might be a good idea to trim down the pack weight a bit, of course! Well done.

We actually passed someone half way that was doing the same! Would be really cool to do some day. I’m working on cutting my base weight for my next hike though at the moment it’s not toooo bad, we were carrying extra food for Fraser as well so with the water it mounted up. I think my baseweight before food & water but including gas was 7kg but I’ve recently bought a trekking pole tent to cut around 600gb and hope to switch from a sleeping bag to a quilt :)

@@ashobrienoutdoors Yeah - my base weight for this hike is usually around 6-7kg. My last yoyo (9 days) I had a trail weight (food and everything) of just under 10kg. But then I am 70yo and not a young person like you! Not sure what I am going to do this year. I have done (I think, every possible variation. I was thinking to attempt it as an overnighter and I almost did it last year but got heatstroke going from Dutgee to Brahminy in high 30 degree heat. So I had to stop at Brahminy and not continue on to Noosa. Anyway, will think of something by April or so (when it gets cool enough to hike again). I might just do a slow hike just to smell the roses. Will be 71 this time and not getting any fitter! I thought your gear looked pretty good. I was a bit puzzled at the food, but each to their own. I basically live on noodles on these sorts of hikes. Very compact and easy to cook/eat. I use the Zpacks Plexamid trekking tent - 400g! Actually most of my gear is Zpacks stuff.

@@kgnbrisbane Your my hero!! Hearing you doing that at 70 gives me hope that I will have many many hiking years left! I love the look of Zpacks tents, the import tax is so high here in the UK though, I imagine its the same for you? Im waiting on a new trekking pole tent to arrive, the Liteway Illusion solo so im super excited for that! Im gearing up for the PCT at the moment for this coming April so my gear list here is similar to what I had on Cooloola only ive switched out a few things to help with the weight and added in some warmer items lighterpack.com/r/j8clj4 , still a working progress though :)
