Memories! Met Guy at kenworthys nationals in Troy Ohio. Great jumper and fan favorite, ALWAYS. Then my kids got to meet Guy at a district 11 race in Greenville Ohio at Treaty City MC. Class act and was very personable with the kids and crowd.
I will remember Guy Cooper not only for being a nice guy, but the first guy to jump any new, huge jump on any national track that scared the hell out of everybody else. The self induced "panic rev", (to deter the other guys from trying it), was genius.
I remember watching the Atlanta Supercross. The best Supercross Race I've ever seen.I've watched Him race outdoors to.He has always been one of my Favorite Riders, great personality.
Thanks for sharing. Had the privilege to race Guy a few times in the early 90’s. Remember vividly talking with him after a little local supercross at the Mesa county fairgrounds in grand junction. Felt like talking for hours. But was probably only 30 mins. Just the most humble person I’ve ever been around. Quality role model for sure. Regardless of the generation
Guy took a group of us Oklahoma boys from Perry and gave us some private lessons of the trade. He put the fire under us that still burns 30 years later. Thanks for great times Coop.
I had the honor of meeting Guy on the european supercross circuit he was a down to earth dude and a absolute gentleman i was always impressed by his 100% effort,me and and the rider i spannered for have some good memeories from watching him a true legend.
great video. airtime Guy Cooper is the best. I started racing in the early eighties. I had the privilege to meet him in person. he was a 100% really good guy. a real inspiration on and off the track.
I meet him few times and he did help when I did ride for Suzuki sweden 🇸🇪 and he is the true Air time Cooper 🙏 more or better person do not exist! Hope see you coop as I'm get back to USA would be so fun ! Best regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
Killer story I got to talk to Guy over at Anadarko mid-nineties the Guy could still fly and I don't think I ever talked to a nicer racer motorcycle enthusiasts ever!
I still have it on VHS, and have not seen it in years. Agreed, Guy was a good class act, still is I am sure. Yea, I do remember Guy as a "nice Guy" I guess, but I remember him more for his heart, determination, and your willingness to jump the big stuff first, (when the jumps were getting big in the late 80's), and the "Panic Rev" tactic, which was genius.
Looking back it’s hilarious if Coop was wearing MSR a lot of us Okies were, When he switched to UFO we switched ! If Coop rode Suzuki we rode them, when Coop went to Honda we went to Honda lmao Fair to say we loved Coop and years later we still do 👊💯🤟
I remember watching him at Washougal back in about 93. He had lost his front brake if I remember correctly. So, he just kept whipping his bike over the big jumps so hard. Back then, that was hella cool.
I have the distinct honor of being blown away by Guy at a track in Tulsa called Odyssey Trails. What really sucks was he was riding one of those Honda XR's with the gufus 23" front wheels had jeans on and red sleevless sweatshirt . I...was riding my new RM 125 with my new JT gear and new moto 3 AND HE WIPED THE FLOOR WITH ME ! Yep , some red headed kid on crap bike wiped the track with me . Fond memory . PK
I was lucky enough to have met both Guy and Wanda when I was a student at OSU, and I even got to ride with his nephew Kenny a few times. As a matter of fact, I bought the bike I rode to class from their shop. That whole family is down to earth, and they really epitome the kind natured Oklahoma spirit a lot of us are known for.
Great video, great rider, great athlete. As a guy that sent from Novice BMX to Pro in 18 months, lettered in either 2 or 3 sports in school, I KNOW athleticism. That's why it baffled my egg I sucked at MOTOCROSS for so long. Simple answer, I want a very good motorcycle rider. Duh. Took me a long time to win races locally. It was the challenge that their me going. Even when I was winning races in my best ever season, 2001, in D34 MSC, NY (yup, Richard Coon, Scott Sheak, Ryan Mills, Justin Barcia and Jimmy Weinert) some races I led gate drop to checkers yet as Guy says, there were races where me and another guy would bang bears the whole event and that fight for fifth or fourth was a better high than the win. Never met Guy while he was racing, but I did better him at the first Unadilla Vintage Rewind where he won the classes he entered and was jumping a 37 year old CZ360 down the huge deep that used to be where the "tree turn" was. 🤯😲🤔 NO ONE could believe what they were looking at. He was leaping that bike like it was modern. Truth be told in his 50s, he could've qualified for a National. He wouldn't have had the energy of the kids haha his age at the end but trust me, the SPEED IS STILL THERE. Guy, if you see this and don't remember me it's ok. I'm the guy that's not another MOTOCROSS Legend... Lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0t9sWCKa87c.html Long live "Airtime" Cooper. 💪🏻🇺🇸😎😃🇯🇲👍🏾
Remember seeing him the first time as I recall at the Pontiac Silverdome circa '87, and he was coming out of a tight turn WFO, and killing a triple. Over and over! I have photos, and remember the back of his leathers read "Air Time". Mind blown is all I can say.
I saw him numerous times racing against Erik Kehoe they were just great to watch on there 125 bumblebees it was great both great riders. Kehoe was unbelievably fast at the 125 GP at steel city not sure what yr but he just smoked everybody that day with mid pack starts wow
I remember seeing Cooper at a Glen Helen National, He was throwing wips over a jump every lap, each time he came around, the louder we were the more he would throw it sideways.
Man. I didn't know Guy had done the nac nac before Mcgrath. I thought Mcgrath was the first one to pull that trick on a motocross bike. Learn something new everyday. Great vid and one of my all time favorite riders.
in his younger days we would make sure and watch him when his race came up and take bets on how may laps he would go before he stepped off lol. dude was fast...........and wild
I've got to ride with him quite a bit, his brother Chuck Cooper and would ride tight single track together. They're both insanely fast and technical in the trees, I'd give the advantage to Chuck. Not many people know Chuck was once a factory Kawi rider.
He was so fast but got out of control sometimes that would cost him he would do things on a 125 that 250 riders wouldn't do great person met him at red bud.

Actually this place was called the 500 a lot of us called it Cooperland because Guy pretty much made the place !! Guy actually built a track called Cooperland years later !!
