I am so glad it helped! The example shown is specifically for determining if the shape is truly a parallelogram. The properties mentioned (opposite sides being congruent) would not be the same for a triangle, but you could certainly use a proof to prove if a triangle was a certain type of triangle (i.e. right triangle, equilateral triangle, etc).
