RIP Ronald Lee Ermey. He was one of the greatest actors that ever lived. He was never supposed to be in Full Metal Jacket but glad that Stanley Kubrick changed his mind. Still one of my all time favorite movies. Wow, 1 million view. Outstanding

I was gonna say, the voice was so good that it had to be the Duke. Plus Wayne’s dialogue was more generalized than Ermey’s. Still an outstanding commercial. I dunno if it was originally a Super Bowl commercial, but it feels like one.

Another fun fact, they are actually Marines and not soldiers as Ermey calls them. One of my Drill Instructor’s from Parris Island ‘97 is in the video at the 0:06 mark. David Duke has never provided anything good or productive, as long as he's been around. Even when he was Grand Wizard man - the Klan was a shell of what it once was, compared to the early 1920s. R Lee Ermey is a war hero, and with blind luck was able to have an iconic role in a Kubrick movie. If a fascistic movement will happen in America. It won't happen with swastikas and pointy hat costumes. It'll happen with suits and ties. Which every man of up most importance wears.

No matter what service you have served in, no matter where you serve now, he was still Gunny to us all. He brought both strength and humor to our world and made it easier for us to laugh at ourselves and each other, even as we saw the sameness in our services, the same call to duty and service. On page 382 in the book "The Battle of Okinawa: The Blood and the Bomb" by George Feifer, a wounded Marine from the battle talked about what happened during a visit by John Wayne. Wayne was pretty clueless about the realities of men at war. Here's an excerpt: "Wearing a fancy cowboy outfit, down to spurs and pistols, the celluloid hero greeted the wounded with a self-satisfied "Hiya, guys!" -- which was greeted with silence. Then someone booed. "Suddenly everyone was booing."
@okisoba
@okisoba 6 лет назад
Hammerschlägen M Oh, I don't think John Wayne meant to be disrespectful or that he's a bad person. I'm just saying he wasn't really the hard, man's man everyone likes to think he was. He played a good one on film, but he was otherwise pretty far removed from the tough realities that actually made men hard. The account in the book was actually in a medical ward in Hawaii where a lot of the wounded from the battle were shipped.

I thought Wayne was not physically able to join the war then, not sure specifically but that is what I have heard. I know he tried to join it.

the simple fact is, boot camp experience must include drill sergeants like R Lee, aka think thats bad? wait till youre in combat 1st time. they have to learn to deal with the shock and stress and impossible demands for when it REALLY happens. RIP R Lee.

What's more important is he actually served as a drill instructor during the Vietnam Era. I'm sure his hardcore instruction saved many a young man's life during that conflict.

I love how even when he’s talking calmly and respectfully to a superior he STILL has power and strength in his voice. The man is slightly intimidating even when not trying lmao. RIP Sergeant.

I worked for Motorola and fixed the Coors pagers on-site at the brewery in the '90's, joined the Marines in 1999, and met R Lee Ermey several times when he was guest Speaker at our Marine Corps Balls from 2001-2004. Oorah! USMC 1999-2007

The person who started Coors light had stood up his bride to be at the wedding, and took off with her family’s fortune. The weather was really bad and she waited all night outside in the freezing cold for her husband to be to show up. Her and the horse she was on froze to death. The founder of Coors returned years later, but the town hadn’t forgotten what happened. He was rejected, went back to Colorado and committed suicide. That happened in my home town of Naperville Illinois. For the longest it was forbidden to sell Coors within city limits, and it wasn’t found at any bar in Naperville either

TV commercials were pretty awesome back in the day, and usually funny in an understated way. These days, I hardly watch TV, so I really can't comment on 'em, although the Mountain Dew "Freak Chain" commercial was pretty good (and yeah, every once in a while I'll go back and watch that for giggles).
