Its a small town where only cops live and are on the take with the mafia... the one who´s talking is the boss. and thats the only bar in town... so yeah, if the "godfather" wants to talk, you will wait for your beer.
Ever. This is his best performance ever. I tell people about this movie quite frequently. He could have been a great. If he wasn’t typecast into action roles.
I especially love it from 3:11 till the end of this clip. Freddy saying things will happen at 6am, dramatic music gradually segues in, close up on Ray's tense face. Cinematic magic.
Look up the "collector's series" DVD or blu-ray, it has the director's cut (which has the beefier extended scenes), another way to tell is that the director's/extended cut has the audio commentary by Stallone, Mangold, Robert Patrick & Kathy Conrad - a great commentary because Stallone is seeing the extended cut for the first time.
This whole spill from Harvey Keitel always reminded me of my dad talking down to me whenever I really screwed up. Word choice, tone, mannerisms, and changes in intensity. By the time my father was done talking, it felt like a mental / spiritual whooping, because he'd get right to the core of what was wrong with me. This scene embodies that so much.
Harvey Kietel says okay 6 it is but in his mind he's saying I'm gonna have your other ear blown out and take Super boy lmao 😂... This is such a great movie
No, not just in his mind. He’s straight up making an appointment for battle, just like Stallone knew he was doing. But he thought he had to be honorable and give him a chance to be a good cop.
@@andrewpierce1588 That is such a foolish argument. Pointless. If a person doesn't like the world they live in , they have a choice to sit back and watch and hope , or they make an attempt to change it.It happens everyday and we celebrate when it becomes history. It makes logical and tactical sense for a person to use the best resources available in such a situation , no matter which choice they make. Perhaps you love the world you see and don't want it to change , in which case I can respect the "why" in your response , if not the "how".
@@Peter-p7o5v Pure cop, he nailed it. Until the end, after Freddy patiently stood there getting dressed down, and then repeated what he was going to do, calmly. At that point Ray became the boy, and Freddy proved he was the man. This scene flipped the script on their dynamic and was played to perfection by both of them.
@dudetrustme8320 not a Title...I didn't compete for it. It is a description of how often I've been in a bar. Just as you prob are called a troll. It's not a title.
2:33-2:38 is amazing and honestly the best part of the movie and the D Cut. The one true moment where Freddy fully mans up and becomes the Sheriff he was destined to be. Stallone nails it perfectly too. This scene completes his arc way more naturally and fully than we got in the original theatrical version. Mangold told a different setup than what we got in his DC and it becomes a great human story on top of the crime story we got. Weinstein foolishly screwed this scene up in the theatrical cut quite badly. Instead of saying his comeback line after the who do you think you are insult, it cuts to Freddy going to NYC to meet Moe in a very "screw you Ray," style moment, but it was completely out of wack compared to the DC. Nowhere as impactful of a moment. In the DC he goes to see Moe after his girl's husband gets murdered and it makes his journey more impactful and meaningful. The theatrical cut makes him more petty in his reasons. Just ruins his whole motivation and arc honestly. He never expresses he fully realizes how corrupt the town was in the theatrical cut, it makes his motivation more of a attempt to screw Ray over than it truly being what the DC was pushing for in terms of Fred's transformation arc. He uses the tragedy in his life to open his eyes and truly become what he was destined to be and in that way he finds his inner self. Way more deeper and full than the Weinstein cut. SMH.
Cop Land is one of my all time favorites. It is tense from beginning to end. Ray Liotta, the star of Goodfellas, is terrific once again. Keitel and Stallone are great too
Frank vincent , jenine garafolo, paul herman( guy run over by richie), frank pellogrino( fbi higher up) Edie Falco, Robert Patrick( Davey the fuck up) Annabella Sciori ( the Mercedes dealership stalker) Tony Scrirco( Paulie) Artie Buco( artie buco) Michael Gastone ( the guy tony and chris run over in first episode) Bruce Altman( Tony buys the summer home from him then puts the Stugots2 and outfront with Dean Martin record playing). Im missing a few but they are all in SOPRANOS too.
So many people talking about how this movie bombed when it came out. That's not how I remember it. I remember this movie being huge when it came out. Everyone was talking about it. I worked at a video rental store (Hollywood Video) when it released on VHS and DVD, and this movie was in extremely high demand. We had an entire wall section full of copies, at least a few dozen copies, and they were ALL rented out constantly. This movie may have been critically panned, but it was HUGE commercially and among society in general.
@@alanwakeish star wars latest films ? Any other franchise that's been ruined.... you seem to know better ..... give me a good film recommendation then ?
I've watched this movie multiple times But honestly I never noticed the lady cop on the background Her giving up on Freddy makes more sense , seems like she wasn't skeptical about Freddy's theories..rather she probably got into a relationship with Robert Patrick and/or other city cops Funny how she had a beef with him and he called her a "cupcake" when she stopped their vehicle for overspeeding and later ended up in chilling in a bar with him
This is amazing to see but - this might be an unpopular opinion - I think the regular version is better. Freddie seems suddenly more lucid here and it isn't really supported by anything that happened. In the other version, Ray being an a-hole to him motivates him to do something and that moment and after Ray asks who he thinks he is and it cuts to Freddie coming out of the tunnel is a great moment in my opinion.
Actually saw Copland"(1997) back in California in Westwood,CA. In the 🎥 with a Relative &its a pretty good 🎥&did not to me get enough credit when it was out but good powerful performances from Keitel,Lolita&Stallone who also put on some 🏋 for his sheriff role 😎😷👮💥📞☎📸📻🔉🔦💡💣🚬🚪💴💰💉💊🔪🗑🗄🗃✂🖊📰🎧🎤🎬🎞🎶🎵🎼🎟🎹🎻⚾🍴🍷🍹🍻🍺🥃🏨🗽🚘🚙🚓🚑🚒🚔💈🚦🚥⛽🏟🇺🇸
I used to live a block from this bar lol. Edgewater NJ. In the 70's it was a beat up old mill town with run down or shuttered factory's. There wasn't even a grocery store in town. There was alot of really old 2-3 storys houses up against the cliffs made with gray Hudson river rock pulled from Hudson river construction. There worth a fortune now.. The view from those houses is spectacular. Now its completely rebuilt with high rises and super expensive townhouses. I bet all those houses are gone.
But I really like in the original scene when Ray tells Freddie Super boy is a mixed up kid so are you. Love that both versions have that part when Ray says we live in a world where the cop is the perp and the perp is the victim
Way underrated movie. Loved Ray Liotta in this. He looked like shit thanks to the make up department and that really added to his presence. I loved how when we meet Sylvester's character we hear, "You have no authority," coming from the pinball machine.
They were right to delete this, it's goofy to have it out like this in front of everyone in the bar, even Garofolo seems to be in the background there - hadn't she left by this point?
This movie has a Goodfella-esque feel (particularly with Ray Liotta and Robert DeNiro in it), except it's the cops that are the mafiosos. Add to it Robert Patrick and, of course, Stallone, and in spite of being a bit confusing at times, this is an underrated movie
That is probably interesseting from fan of of the Soprananos. I have watched 20 mins of the Sopranos and IM NOT overhvelmeld, nor interested. Instead, I like to see Stallone in a good role in a good film........
Awesome movie. Sly is the perfect rule of law following cop. Duty, service, honour, doesn’t lie, follows the US Constitution. All qualities the total opposite of Trump/Maga. A perfect democrat cop. 👮🏿
